Allied Healthcare Program Updated 03/01/2019SF Clinical Clearance Packet Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomy Tech, Electrocardiography Tech, Patient Care Tech, and Medical Assistant Welcome, Thank you for your interest in the Allied Healthcare Program. The majority of the Allied Healthcare courses at NMSU-DACC have a clinical component. This allows students the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have learned in class with real live patients/residents in a medical facility. To participate in these opportunities, NMSU-DACC students must meet strict health and safety standards regulated by the New Mexico Department of Health’s Health Facility Licensing and Certification (HFL&C) Bureau, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). COURSE PRE-REQUISITES: At least 18 years of age for clinical courses, NA 105, NA 109, NA 110, NA 205, NA 214 Communication: Health care professionals must document patient care provided in the patient’s chart. The patient’s chart is considered a legal document that is admissible in a court of law therefore students must be able to: 1) Communicate effectively in English, using verbal, non-verbal, and written formats; 2) Read and interpret the English language with-out assistance. Students will need to be able to communicate with not only patients but various members of the medical staff such as Physicians, Nurses, Therapists, Dietitians, and other health care members. Students will also be required to document the care given to patients in English in the medical chart. Many people in our community speak Spanish, and so it is an enormous benefit to our community for students to also be able to communicate in Spanish. Students that do not speak Spanish are strongly encouraged to take AHS 250 Spanish for Healthcare Providers.

DRUG SCREEN INFORMATION Students of New Mexico State University and Doña Ana Community College are considered a valuable asset, and their health and welfare are of serious concern. The University strives to maintain a safe and productive environment free from the influence of illicit drugs and unlawful use of alcohol. As a recipient of federal funds, the University is obligated to inform all students that the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol on its property or as part of any of its activities is prohibited, and is a violation of University policy. Students who violate this prohibition will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action, which may include termination of employment or expulsion from school. The health and safety of students and of patients are serious concerns of the Patient Care Technician Program. Health care work environments are safer and more effective without the presence or effect of illegal drugs, controlled substances abuse, or alcohol. Students who abuse alcohol or drugs are a danger to themselves, coworkers, patients, and health care facilities. The adverse impact of illegal drugs, controlled substances abuse, and alcohol in the workplace has been recognized by the federal government. All health care facilities are required by federal law to maintain a drug-free workplace. It is a condition of participation in clinical courses, that students be, and remain, free of illegal drugs, controlled substances abuse, and alcohol while in Patient Care Technician courses. A positive drug screen may prevent a student from completing courses/program and gaining employment in the field. Any student who has been dismissed or suspended for drug or alcohol violations and who has evidence of successful rehabilitation may petition for readmission to NMSU-DACC upon recommendation from relevant psychological or psychiatric professionals. Students who voluntarily seek treatment for drug or alcohol violations before disciplinary action, and students who are readmitted to the NMSU-DACC after rehabilitation, may be assessed and receive after-care counseling from an on-campus counseling center or be referred to an appropriate community resource. Electronic Submission of Clinical Clearance Packet

The Patient Care Technician Program has over 200 students apply for clinical courses each semester. That is a lot of paperwork! Therefore we are now requiring all documents to be uploaded on-line to a secure Medical Document Manager. The Medical Document Manager will review your records for completeness then send you an e-mail if you have successfully uploaded all the correct forms, or need additional forms. It will also notify you if one of your documents are about to expire such as your TB test or your CPR card. You can also use it when applying for a new job, or other college programs that require the same information. You just grant them permission to look at your documents. No more hunting for your records when you need them they are all stored in one place. Many other colleges are also using CastleBranch for documentation for their clinical courses as well including NMSU, UTEP, and ENMU. We have two packages for you to choose from:

1. DF23annual: This packet is $20.00 and stores your documents for one year. 2. DF23: This packet is $35.00 and stores your documents for an “unlimited” amount of time.

They are pretty quick so no need to pay addition fees for to rush or expidite the review of your documents. CastleBranch is an independent company from DACC. Please read all of their information for changes in costs, and storage terms etc.
