FIRE-GENI Collaboration WorkshopSep. 17-18, Washington, DC
Data centers
• Utah– 7 chassis with 45 compute blades (ARM)– 1 HP Moonshot 1550CM management per chassis
• Clemson– 93 x86 servers (20 cores each)– 1 management card per server
• Wisconsin– 100 Cisco x86 servers (16 cores each)– 1 management card per server
Data collection
• IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface)– Standard for retrieving sensor data– Can also be used for resource inventory
• IPMI collector– Establishes connection with management card– Periodically samples power sensor data– Stores values in local database– Data Compression on the fly
• Local databases replicated to UMass for data querying through Web portal

Web portal
Power Data Web portal
• User provides Rspec file with resources used and time range
• Generates zip file with CSV files containing– List of resources– Power data time series for each resource– Optionally provides network and chassis power usage if
available• Portal available at

Next Steps
• Bring Wisconsin online• Provide temperature sensor data
