Extension Office & Equipment Usage Expectations
Madison County Extension and Outreach is grateful for the opportunity to be able to offer our
conference rooms and equipment to our community and 4-H groups; however this is a privilege and we do
want all organizations to be aware of the office usage expectations listed below:
• The downstairs and upstairs conference rooms and any equipment needed for programs or meetings needs to be
requested 1 full business day in advance. The door code will be provided to you at that time and needs to be retained
by the person in charge of opening and closing the building.
• Lights are turned off and door is securely locked upon completion of program/meeting.
• Any damages are the responsibility of the group or person(s) reserving the office space and equipment.
• Anyone using office space and equipment are responsible for ensuring that the rooms and bathrooms are
returned to the cleanliness and way they were found. If tables are moved they need to put back the way they
originally were.
• Office and Equipment are 1st come 1st serve and Madison County Extension and Outreach reserves the right to
accept or refuse requests for office and equipment usage.
Thank you in advance for respecting our facility and for allowing Madison County Extension to continue
offering our equipment and office usage to the community and 4-H clubs.

On behalf of the Youth and 4-H Committee, Happy New Year. We are excited for the new 4-H year as we are
working on plans to improve programs and implement new programs.
One area we are looking forward to reviewing is the Awards Night and record books. The Youth and 4-H Committee wants to hear from you. If you have any feedback, positive or negative, we would like to hear from you. Please submit your feedback in writing to your clubs representative for Youth and 4-H committee.
Another area of focus the Youth and 4-H Committee is committed to improving this year are workshops to help 4-hers better understand their Project areas. We are looking for adults and/or youth who are interested in sharing their skills with other 4-Hers.If you have something that you would like to share please contact
Casey or your clubs representative for Youth and 4-H committee.
Brought to you by the State 4-H Council Communication & the Arts
committee:
This past December, we met at the State 4-H Office in Ames to experience a youth-adult partnership training. We all got the opportunity to grow closer with our CYCs or other county adult volunteers that we each brought along to the training. We are grateful for the impact these adults have made in our 4-H careers. In the month of January, State Council has their winter retreat at Clover Woods on the 5th and 6th to further their planning of the 2019 State 4-H Conference held every year on the campus of Iowa State University for high school youth. The official theme of the Youth Conference was decided at our October retreat and is “A Universe of Possibilities”.

State 4-H Recognition is the process in which senior 4-H members in grades 9th-12th can apply to be selected for special statewide opportunities such as awards and trips.
Please note, we have updated many of the processes related to State Recognition Day. If you have participated in the past, you will find that the following changes have been made and may be helpful to know about in advance of applying.
• The online application process has been moved to 4HOnline.
• Applications for each opportunity (below) are in a fillable PDF format to facilitate a smoother process for writing, reviewing and revising prior to submission.
• One, one-page resume per youth is the only supplemental material requested in addition to your application(s).
• Project area awards and Iowa 4-H Reporters are both offered as a written-application-only process (no in-person interview required). • Interviews for SESS Ambassador, National 4-H Conference, National 4-H Congress and State 4-H Council will be limited to a predetermined maximum number (below) and those will be determined through the written application round. Interviews will now be 20 minutes long instead of 10.
Applications are currently available at https://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/recognition-opportunities
You will be able to start submitting applications November 15, 2018. Please contact Casey if you have questions about the new process!
