Presidents Report June 2013Arron Secombe President 2012 - 2013
I would like to start this presidents
report by saying how awesome was
the last club night with 50+ people
in attendance , the passion that
people showed with the new rules
for club plates and the input was
great. My next challenge is to find
another way to get the same crowds
to each and every months meeting.
I feel that it was great, that our club
members on that night were able
to discuss a hot topic about the
rules with each side having valid
points, and the respect that each
member had for each other to put
across their points .It was a bit of
the days gone by where members
had a input into the clubs future,
something that has gone by the
wayside in the past. I would like
to encourage more discussions in
the future, as a committee and not
having crystal balls we can’t address
issues within the club if someone
doesn’t voice them. We can only go
on what we think is right for the
club , remember you have a voice
so provide feedback good or bad
please.
The last week or so I have been busy
trying to gain the services of a guest
speaker for the AGM and I am glad
to announce that this year’s guest
speaker will be CAMS CEO Eugene
Arocca. Eugene has had a major
impact on lots of different sporting
codes over the last 10+ years.
Eugene has a huge passion for
junior development to help reduce
the road tolls within Victoria and
Australia. He may have never raced
a vehicle, but what I heard and seen
him do within CAMS already is
certainly a step in the right
direction in my eyes and something
that CAMS has needed for a while.
I hope that everyone has scheduled
the AGM into your calendars, it’s
going to be a great night and I think
it would be great to show Eugene
that we are a car club that means
business, and who knows Eugene
may play a big part in our future
land developments. This year we
will also be offering Children less
than 16 years of age a special rate
of $15 per head, as we are a family
club I encourage you to bring your
partner and children to the AGM,
in fact to any meeting/event, let’s
face it our children if they choose
are the future of our club.
With a busy event calendar this
year already, the committee are
looking at adding more next year
with the return of the Begonia Rally
and the Darryl Tunbridge. The DT
will be ran as a novice trial which
will allow a lot of people that may
not normally have a go at a rally a
chance to experience rallying first
hand . To add to my event directing
schedule of VCAS etc., I will be
co-directing this event with my
old partner in crime Ash Mabbitt,
it’s been a few years since we have
directed a trail but one we have
discussed a few times in the last
couple of years. The director for the
Begonia has started the negotiation
stages and something we hope to
have sorted soon!
With the end of the financial year
approaching fast, it also means
that it’s that time of year to call for
nominations for committee. There
always seems to be rumours that
someone wants to come on to the
committee but each and every year
the nominations seem to be the
same names , so if it’s something
that you would like to do , get your
nominations in .
I am looking forward to this
month’s meeting, which will be
the quiz night. We have Noel Peers
(you think you know Ballarat) Rod
Molly Hall (Rock and Roll) Paul
Gladman (Racing) Keith McElroy
(Renault) and Steve Ezzy (????) as
our quiz hosts, last years was a huge
hit and with the feedback received
we have been able to tweak it a bit
to make it even better and more
family orientated and not just about
cars or racing. So grab a mate or the
partner and kids and come out to
the quiz night.
That’s me for this month.
See you at the club

Eugene Arocca’s Summary
Eugene Arocca graduated from Monash University in 1983 with degrees in Jurisprudence and Law. In that same year, he obtained employment as an articled clerk with Maurice Blackburn (“MB”) and became one of the youngest lawyers to be appointed partner at the firm in 1990.
He played an important role in the growth of the firm into a national practice that expanded from one office in Melbourne to 15 offices in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. By the time he retired as a senior partner from MB in late 2005 he was recognised as one of Victoria’s leading lawyers and a forthright advocate of people’s rights.
In 1996 he was appointed lawyer for the Collingwood Football Club where he also acted as a Board member from 2002 to 2005.
In late 2005 he retired from both MB and as a Board member of Collingwood to take up the role of Chief Operating Officer and Corporate Counsel for the Club. During that time he oversaw the Club’s growing interests in external and non football commercial operations.
In January, 2008 he left Collingwood to accept the position of Chief Executive Officer of the North Melbourne Football Club.
Eugene drove a number of historic and important initiatives during his time as CEO, including managing a change in ownership structure to hand control of the Club back to its members, restructuring the club administration and delivering the biggest profit in the Club’s history in 2008.
In 2009 he played a key role in the redevelopment of the Club’s facility at Arden Street and conceived and developed the idea of the Learning and Life Centre - with the Scanlon Foundation and the Australian Multicultural Foundation – an innovative community and education facility embedded within the football club.
More recently, he was a key driver behind securing the Club’s partnership with World Vision.
Arocca resigned from the Club on the 5 June, 2012 and commenced as CEO of CAMS on 26 October, 2012.

EditorialIf you think that going to a meeting
at the club is a little more than you
can handle then you in luck. This
Friday’s meeting has been set aside
and in its place will be our annual
Pub Quiz. I am assured that this time
there will be much more variety in
the questions and to keep the wives,
girlfriends, kids and significant
others interested there will be many
less car related questions.
There was quite a lot of interest at
the last two of our meetings with
regards the committee’s decision to
impose conditions on members when
they had Club Plated vehicles. A
motion was put forward at the latter
of the meetings by Mr Ian Brain that
asked the committee of the BLCC to
review the original solution.
At our last meeting the discussion
was long and involved but the
committee finally thrashed out a
solution which is presented in this
issue of the Bulletin. Basically current
members will not be required to
complete three commitments to the
club; this will only be a requirement
for new members, a period of three
years. There will still be a need for
members to have a go but it will not
be compulsory.
There will be an annual check of
vehicles required but it can be done
at any club event for free or for a
small fee by arrangement with Chris
Hall. Chris has also been given
discretionary powers with regards
new members with regards whether
or not they have to complete the
events commitment. Please read the
new version.
See you at the club

Th e BP Rally ReportMORE OF AN
ADVENTURE THAN A
RALLY.After just over 2000 km in 3 days,
finishing the historically B.P. Rally
is a great achievement. Where you
finish is irrelevant.
Based on the Ye Old B.P. rallies of
the 50’s and 60’s this event travels
from one end of the state to the
other on a variety of roads, tracks,
and the odd “grotty”, and yes, sand.
Known to be very demanding on
car and competitors, didn’t deter
45 cars from heading off from the
RACV Country Club in Healesville
on Thursday evening and headed for
the mountains, and the first service
point at Mansfield. This stage 250
kms, instructions seemed straight
forward but a “cock” up sees us
travelling an extra 50 k or so more.
(Must read all instructions carefully
next time, says Noel.)
After a 30 minute service it was
off again this time another 150k
stage on some challenging tracks
in the Yarra Ranges and finishing
at Benalla round 3.00am for the
overnight stop. (Or the rest of
it anyway.) Rear shockers at this
stage, were showing signs of fatigue,
despite having done very little prior.
Next morning, breakfast at the sports
ground catered by local Clubs. A
quick check over, and the car is ready
for the next stage, a short run (205
km) to Echuca, and a 30 minute fuel
stop.
Next destination was Ouyen via
many great roads and tracks the area
has to offer. The night stage again
used great tracks some twisty and
tight others straight, (my favourite
part), and a chance to go a bit
quicker if you had to make up a little
time. Keeping in mind all of the
way, the dreaded radar gun. Yes they
were out as part of the event. Heavy
penalties applied if caught. The “3
times you’re out” rule applied.
The overnight stop was in Mildura
arriving there about 2.00 am, for a
well-deserved break.
Next morning it was breakfast at the
local sports ground and a chance to
do a bit of car maintenance. By now
many cars and crews were starting
to feel their ages. Some with broken
suspensions, while others with brake
issues, even sick navigators. At this
stage my 260 z was fairing quite
well although I was still nursing
the rear shockers. A quick check
underneath, bleed the brakes, clean
the windscreen, and we were off once
again.
From here the going was to get
tougher and rougher, as we headed
for the dreaded SAND. First stage
not too bad, bit rough and again had
to ease up to protect the shockers.
The next stage is where it all turned
to s--t for us and several other crews.
We ended up on a rough wrong road
bogged to the a-s in sand. Now it is
worth mentioning how we ended
up there as it wasn’t totally the
navigators fault.
When we were plotting this division
back at the tea break, Noel got
some advice from a prominent and
respected gentleman whom we know
quite well, which turned out to be
incorrect information. The result
sent us on a very long excursion
to nowhere in particular. We were
further hampered by more bad
advice from local 4WD enthusiasts,
stating that the track we were on was
a good track and quite passable. As it
turned out, only passable in a 4WD
with high ground clearance. Which
I might add the Zed does not have.
Anyway we were now bogged as
mentioned.
Th e BP Rally Report
8 TheBulletin June 2013
For the next 45 minutes we
proceeded to dig ourselves out and to
my amazement along came another
stray 4WD. After many attempts for
him to turn around (narrow sandy
track,) managed to hook us up and
tow us free.
By now about 1 hour had passed
and we were staring down the barrel
of being excluded from the event
due to “out of late running time”.
We decided not to continue on
the route instead deciding to “cut
and run” to the end of the section,
Patchewollock. Here we would get
fuel, and a feed.
The division break was still a long
way off and besides the next part
was through more sand and more
demanding than the previous. We
opted not to risk further delays
by being bogged again or maybe
breaking the car, so chose to cut
and run again. Continuing on may
put us out of the event. Arriving at
the division break just on dark was
a relief and a wonderful sight. We
found out then it was the right move
as many crews were still unaccounted
for presumed to be still stuck in sand
around Lake Albacutya.
Anyway time to refuel, bolt on the
driving lights, and relax with a lovely
meal supplied by the local footy club
at their rooms in Jeparit.
As we were departing the control
for the final division (some 2 hours
after arriving,) cars were still coming
in which again proved we made the
right choice.
This division was to be straight
forward for the first part with some
tricky but rough sections later in
the night. A short cruise south to
Marma, west of Lubeck, proved
also to be a bit demanding with
control well hidden and with two
ford crossings to firstly find and then
negotiate, in order to enter it from
the correct direction. Several crews
missed this including Dinta Officer
who wasted 40 minutes only to enter
from the wrong direction. (Noels
determination finally paying off
here. Loss of only 20 minutes.) After
jokingly voicing some disapproval
to the control official (Peter Parry),
of its location, it was off towards
our next destination and control
at Glenorchy, just out of Stawell.
Unfortunately this control was to
beat Noel and we failed to visit it.
(More loss of pride from Noel rather
than the loss of points). Service at
Stawell, then on to the home run
using some familiar territory around
Stawell, Ararat, and ending at control
near Warrak.
Decision time again. Do we
continue on through the knowingly
rough areas of MT Cole and risk
breaking the shocks all together, or
make a dash for home and finish at
the BLCC. We had heard that Stapo
was out there parked at a steep rough
hill to assist crews up. Keeping this in
mind and the fact that we only had
60 minutes left to complete the stage
and the event, it was an easy decision
make. “Cut and run”. It would take
us at least the hour to drive down the
highway to the Clubrooms as it was.
An easy call in the end, and the right
one. Finishing this memorable event
in 19th place, with only minutes to
spare.
Now 19 th may not sound too
exciting for some but before the
event Noel and I set a realistic target
of 20th or better. And when you think
that there were 20 cars that didn’t
finish for whatever reasons, it isn’t
too bad of result. And oh yeah the
shocks made it but they are definitely
stuffed. No oil in one at all and the
other moving very freely.
Seven crews from Ballarat started the
event and only two finished. Gary
Gibbons with Martin Forbes, (HRA
members) in an Escort and us in my
Zed.
At this point I must really thank our
good mate and very reliable service
crew, Paul Duncalf. He travelled
almost as far as we did, only on good
sealed roads, and on his own, to
ensure that we had fuel, a cuppa, a
bite to eat, and if need be, repairs.
Before the event he had no real idea
of what lay ahead as a service crew,
but by the end (all be it a few days
later), asking when is the next one.
I would also like to thank my
navigator Noel whose enthusiasm
for this event helps me through the
many hours of preparation that is
required to ensure the car is up to the
task.
Anyway I hope this gives you some
idea of what it is all about and maybe
encourage you to have a go yourself
next time, and I’m led to believe that
there will be a next time.
Till then, catch ya, Chris Hall

Recent changes to the VicRoads Club Permit Scheme has opened up freedoms on the use
of red plated vehicles. This in turn has led to an increased demands from prospective mem-
bers of our club. The concern is that some people may take advantage of the privileges
offered by the scheme without putting anything back into the club. As a result, the commit-
tee have moved that some requirements be placed on new members, especially members who
have joined our club simply to benefit from membership to use the scheme.
The following are the new requirements :-
New members who wish to join BLCC in order to have vehicle/s on the Vicroads Club
Permit Scheme need to participate in at least three (3) activities per year for the first three (3)
years of their membership. This will not apply to existing members who are still encouraged
to continue to contribute to the clubs ongoing events and activities.
All new members will be issued their membership card at their first event of the month in
which they sign up and entry will be free which includes a Motorkhana, Autocross,
Khanacross or Club Night and will also count as their first contribution to the club (If State
Championship Hillclimb or any Rally/Trial, Winter Classic will not be free) It will be the
new member’s responsibility to maintain proof of other contributions for the committee at
time of renewal. A suggestion of this proof is to get an official of the attended function /
event to sign your VicRoads Logbook or provide results from the event you competed in or
your CAMS official logbook signed by senior official as applicable.
The club activities that are eligible for this are:- A Monthly General Meeting, Club run
motorsport events, competitor or official or Social tours / Working Bees / Fundraisers or the
contributions of and article to the Bulletin
Club Permits will not be renewed by the club if proof of participation is not provided
Special consideration for an exemption from this participation will be considered on a
case by case basis.
All Club Permit holders must :-
Be a full financial member of the BLCC
( Associate Members are required to upgrade to full membership if a CPS user )
Comply with the current rules and regulations outlined by VicRoads
Be aware at all times that every time you use your vehicle you are representing your
club and should always act in a responsible manner.
BLCC Club Permit Scheme Requirements
Our club has designated Mr Chris Hall as our CPS vehicle inspector for these inspection/s. Noel
Peers can act a Chris’ deputy. Chris or Noel will not sign off on the inspection paperwork without
sighting a current full membership card, receipt of $45 fee and successful completion of the
inspection. To ensure that there is no deterioration or modification in our Club Plated vehicles an
annual inspection will be required for continuation in the scheme. This may be done by attending
one of the many events (with prior arrangement) where scrutineering occurs (no fee) or by having
Chris or Noel inspect the vehicle at a pre-arranged time at (Peter Stapleton’s or Carline garages with a
charge of $20)
June 2013 | TheBulletin 11
DRAFT
Financial members of VicRoads’ approved clubs are able to apply for either a 45 or 90
day permit depending on how much use they expect to make of their vehicles over a 12
month period. If a person obtains a 45 day permit but later decides that this is not
enough, another 45 day permit may be purchased later on. However, no-one will be able
to obtain a permit to drive their vehicle for more than 90 days in each 12 month registra-
tion period.
Modifications. The club’s position is that the club permit scheme is there to preserve
CLASSIC and HISTORIC vehicles and to allow members to utilise their vehicles in
various club events including driving to and from them.
Regulation 155(1)(b) states
“Club responsibility for verifying that a vehicle is safe for use will be the same as currently i.e. by club inspection and a letter confirming the vehicle’s state or by sighting a current Certificate of Roadworthiness for the vehicle”.
All modifications for safety or performance must be approved by our CPS inspector. In
other words the vehicle should be and should remain in a safe condition and not have
post inspection alterations made. These may result in your permit being suspended or
worse, having your vehicle defected by police. This will also mean that a full roadworthy
will be required. Please note that the scheme is not there to allow cars to be driven that
would not normally be able to be registered. Vic Roads and the police are likely to start
stopping cars for checks with the result that the club can lose its ability to have vehicles
on Club Plates if members are found to not complying with these VicRoads rules.
A reminder to all club members who use this scheme that you must renew your
membership otherwise your permit lapses (no membership, no permit)
If you use your car without renewing your membership you are driving an unregistered,
uninsured vehicle (a $600 plus fine)
Vicroads will be notified of un-financial members who are using the scheme.
If you sell a car that is on the scheme you must inform the club, as the permit is not
transferable when the vehicle is sold.
You must fill out an entry in your log book for each day of use BEFORE you begin your
journey. Failure to abide by this rule may result in you getting a fine for an unregistered
vehicle and of course you'd have no TAC cover. You won’t have time to fill out your log
book after an accident or when you are pulled over by the police

BLCC Club Plate Report June 2013 Sunday 16th June, 13 Club Plated
cars were to assemble at 8.45am
around Lake Wendouree for a
leisurely 250km drive through several
historic gold mining towns around
the Ballarat area. However late
withdrawals from 4 crews resulted in
only 9 setting off at 9.15 am.
The weather was perfect for this time
of the year, no rain, and not too cold,
which I was very pleased about as I
had dragged out my Sprite which can
be unpleasant in damp conditions,
and oh yeah no heater.
With nothing really planned just
a basic route, our first stop was at
Talbot via Learmonth and Lexton on
a great scenic road, and arriving at
around 10.15am.
This Sunday was market day
in Talbot so about an hour was
consumed, many taking the
opportunity to grab a bargain, a
coffee and a bite to eat.
A quick regroup and it was off to
our next destination, Carisbrook, to
Eddington, and arriving at Maldon
for lunch. You could spend lots of
time wandering these towns enjoying
the history, old buildings and of
course the odd craft and coffee shops.
After lunch back to the cars and
made our way to Daylesford through
Newstead, and Hepburn Springs. If
you haven’t been on these roads you
should. It had the lot, tight twisty
bits, plenty of hills, and one or two
straight pieces to suit all drivers.
The views were also worth the trip.
Another stroll around the shops,
(chocolate shop is a must), more
coffee if you wished, but by now we
were all” coffee’d” out.
From here we made our way back
home via whichever, and whenever
you wanted to go as some needed to
get back bit earlier.
Overall, crews seemed to enjoy the
outing and hinted at being involved
in more in the future.
If anyone would like to plan a day
trip please feel free to do so, just give
me a call and we will make it happen.
You don’t have to wait for me to do
it. Having a basic idea of a route and
maybe a destination with a highlight
at the end is possible. I would like to
thank Glenn Orr for assisting with
planning this day out
Till next time, catch ya soon ,
Chris Hall.

Greetings Fellow BLCC Members
The Annual General Meeting
is fast approaching its time for us all
to think about who wants to be on
committee.
Being elected for a 3 year
term both Clare Bennett and Rod
Hall have finished their 3 year
terms. Both John Welford and
Paul Hocking were co-opted onto
committee during the past 12
months which means that their terms
also finish and they are both up for
election. In order for this to happen
someone needs to nominate them
also.
This all means that there are
4 positions about to become vacant
on committee. The nomination form
should be elsewhere in your Bulletin.
This form needs to signed by 2
BLCC members who nominate and
second the nomination along with
the signature of the person being
nominated. This form then needs
to either reach Clare Bennett as our
secretary or be in PO Box 400 in
both cases by the 5th July.
The only other thing the
nominee’s need to do
is provide Mr Ez as our
current Mr Ed with a
paragraph blurb for the
July Bulletin of why they
want to be on committee
and what they can offer
your club though the committee.
If there are more than 4
nominations an election will then
be held at the AGM on the 26th
July. Please don’t hold back from
being nominated to stop an election.
Having an election is a very healthy
sign.
Nominations Committee 2013/14

Th e HRA 2DAYTA 2013 Greetings to all The 2DAYTA is happening on the 20th & 21st of July. Anyone wishing to participate will fi nd Supp Regs HERE.In the meantime here are some details--Saturday---commences at the Ballarat LCC rooms at 8.30 am for division 1 which is a 200K run through forests/open farmlands with a variety of road surfaces ending at Maldon after 4hours of driving.
Division 2--Saturday pm kicks off in Maldon -fi rst car away at 1.30 with another 4hours and 200K's back to the LCC rooms where the club BBQ and Bar will be available--again you will experience a wide variety of road surfaces.
Sunday brings Division 3 which again starts at the LCC rooms with breakfast available with the fi rst car leaving at 9.30 for a 1.30pm fi nish. Sunday probably has more bitumen roads than Saturdays divisions.
The directing team has chosen to use Gravel roads in preference to bitumen roads as it keeps competitors off busy Hwys especially when searching for that elusive via!!
All vehicles are welcome including 4x4's even EVO's and WRX's however all 4x4's will start towards the rear of the fi eld as they may be of assistance to other crews.
While nothing is mandated -apart from a RW vehicle with seat belts for all occupants--we most strongly suggest that your car is fi tted with a ACCURATE COMPASS as well as an ACCURATE TRIPMETER
The entire event was surveyed in my R31 Skyline on radial tyres and without a sump guard-what
we are trying to say is that you can do the event in any vehicle providing that you DRIVE TO THE CONDITIONS.
While ALL maps will be supplied we appreciate that some modern vehicles are fi tted with GPS devices that cannot be disabled and in this regard we expect that competitors will comply with the spirit of the event--However the carrying of ANY MAPS is forbidden and the use of these maps may result in exclusion.
Mobile phones are permitted as these will enable crews to contact the Directing Team in the case of accident/becoming lost/ bogged or broken down- a Sweep car will be following the last car on the road.
We have decided to make the event a positive scoring event--that is you get points for what you fi nd and NOTHING for what you dont--At passage controls correct entry is 30 points a WD is 10 while a miss scores ZERO.
To ensure that all competitors complete as much as they can in their 4 hours a time is given to each competitor which tells them the time that the fi nish control closes for them. Providing a crew arrives at the fi nish on or before their control closure time they will receive a bonus 200 points--failure to arrive at the control before it closes ZERO and zero for the entire division.
Once again TIME MANAGEMENT is critical and to help crews we're put extra directions in the route instructions to remind crews of where they should be at that time and directions to get you back on time.
You may enter for all 3 divisions at $150--2 divisions for $110
and 1 for $70--full details will be included in the Supp regs.A reminder that for the HRA Touring Championship this event has extra points. So keep July 20/21 available head to Ballarat enjoy up to 600K’s of FUN and don’t forget to pack--

Sports Sub Committee NotesPast EventsBP 2 or 3 BLCC Crews went. Lots of crews had to cut & run. Lots of getting bogged. Covered serious amount of
distance.
AX3 Chris Hall & Noel Peers directed with Roy Parkinson as steward. Paul Duncalf, Rob Prosser & Rob Stevenson
acting as permanent infield officials. Well received was the amount of help when packing up. Numerous hats, 28
entries who all had at least 1 run with a hat. Chris & Noel set a good track given the conditions. Wet at start and
dried out towards the end. 5 Runs plus a practice.
Cooper Memorial Trial . CT1 6 BLCC crews. Seemed to go off OK. Great roads. Favourable weather, Barney &
Kids, Paul Hocking, Damian Quirk & Sean Payne and Ian Gilhome & crew helped man the BLCC stage. Darren
Wythe & Damian Faulkner first of BLCC crews, Richard Gay, Matt White & Mick Goossens, Arron Secombe, Scott
& Stacey Secombe.
Khanacross. Director Rob Prosser did a marvellous job in very trying conditions. Timers & judges Ian Brain, Paige
Haddon, Gareth Prosser & Noel Peers. Darren Wythe and Arron Secombe scrutiny. Steve Ezzy laid out morning tea.
Michelle booked in competitors. Mick G & Rod H calculated results which made the Courier later in week courtesy
of Richard Gay. Mick Goossens, Paul Hocking and Paul Gladman top 3.
Coming Events16th June MK 3 Nigel Stevens & Ben McKee All in hand, has now been run and won.
Winton Sprints. Supp Regs are on the Maserati Website. Entries for this event cannot be accepted from drivers under
18. To this end we will shorten the number of events in the J2 and J3 CDC Championship by one event at this point
in time. Apologies that this has occurred but we weren’t aware that was the case when we added the event to the
calendar. I will find out if the same rule applies to Sandown later in the year.
Fred Lakerink & HRA’s 2DAYTA, all in hand, Division 1 will be a part of our Club Trials championship CT2. Will
be based out of BLCC rooms. Fred is looking for assistance with passage controls etc. This event is on dirt. Prior
to this event Fred has offered to run a Navigation School at our Club Rooms for those who are interested. With
Division 1 of the 2DAYTA now allocated as a heat of the BLCC trials championship, Fred is proposing to conduct
a navigator’s school covering the basics of navigating in this type of event as suggested by Clare Bennett. This will
be on Friday, 5th July at the club rooms, 8:00pm start.. Expressions of interest to [email protected].
Will run the school if there are more than 6 participants.
28th July MK4 Damian Quirk & Rob Prosser Directing.
The reserve date Autocross is not required so is now deleted from our calendar as its not needed and the track would
not be ready with all the use and rain its been getting.
HRA & George Davidson are running the Rallye Du Mont Cole in the Mount Cole area on the 17th August. This
will also be part of our CTC. Knowing Biggus Geogeous the navigation will be testing to say the least.. Details on
HRA’s website.
Winterclassic – starting to fall into place. Will be in CTC to increase numbers of events. Those wanting to use this
event as part of Club Trials Championship need to enter the Trial not the Tour.
AMG at Mt Leura weekend before Bathurst – starting to fall into place. Meeting at Camperdown with AMG and
Corangamite Shire this Friday.
General BusinessKhanacross passengers allowed to be parents of dependants as Per CAMS standing regs. Previously this wasn’t the
case but having enquired of CAMS it is now allowed. Currently this only pertains to Khanacrosses, we are waiting
to be advised what the situation is with an Autocross Training Activity. This means that Mum’s or Dad’s can sit

beside their youngsters and teach them. They do need to be on BLCC’s driver training list as well. This role is be an
instructive one not a joy ride though.
Khanacross and Motorkhana competitors are advised to bring a packed lunch to MK & KX events at BLCC complex
as not convenient to have food at tower. Stapo’s KX still would be convenient but events at BLCC complex are too
spread out and remote from the tower. Not advisable to stop for lunch when weather is threatening.
Paul Gladman is added to Driver trainers list.
Sports Sub Committee Notes
The weekend before the event I spent
time out at the track working on some
tests that would give drivers the chance
to show off their ability and let them
take part in some good competition and
I must say I was pleased with what had
been put together.
The day before the event, the great god
of rain decided to put in some overtime
and started throwing the wet stuff
from the sky as if he had some sort of
schedule to meet. I spoke to Rod Hall
at the Friday night meeting and asked
what would the weather need to do for
us to call it off, the ever positive Mr
Hall informed me things would need
to get much worse, hail and some snow
maybe!! He failed to mention flood.
It’s now 7.30am on the day of the event
and I am stood on the tyre wall in front
of the timing tower looking up at a grey,
angry sky. It looked as if the old god of
rain had gone out after work, got on the
grog and was suffering one mother of a
hangover. SMS to Rod Hall, “There’s a
lot of water out here”…..no response, I
was alone.
I frantically start to look for some dry
areas to use for the tests and managed
to salvage most of tests one and two
that I’d worked on the weekend before,
but test three was a total wash out. By
the time we had the drivers briefing we
had three tests in place and with a field
of 21 starters and the rain had finally
stopped, the Khanacross got underway.
Tests one and two seemed to be going
better than expected, apart from the
mud so we moved things along and
opened up test three and this became the
leveler of drivers and machines. It didn’t
matter how much your car cost or how
many wheels you had driving or what
tyres were on those wheels everyone
suffered the same big problem…..
wheel spin. There is a rumour that a
certain commodore pilot managed to
add one hundred kilometers extra to his
odometer but yet only managed to move
his vehicle 10 k’s for the day!!
After combining tests one and two and
making some changes to the dreaded
Khanacross Rnd 3 Report test three to make it dreaded test five
we all managed to get through a long,
but I hope, satisfying event with Mick
Goossens taking out the top honors.
I would like to say a really big THANK
YOU to the people who without their
help this event would not have run. Ian
Brain, Darren Whythe, Aaron Secombe,
Rod Hall, Steve Ezzy, Noel Peers,
Michele Bayley, Gareth Prosser, Kate
Meyers, Barney Haddon and a special
mention and big thanks to young Paige
Haddon who as a junior stepped up and
was in control of the largest test of the
day.

CAMS Chief Executive Eugene Arocca will be sleeping rough this month at the 2013 Vinnies CEO Sleepout. In Melbourne on Thursday 20th of June,Mr. Arocca will join other businessleaders and sleep out on the coldconcrete fl oor of Etihad Stadium.Armed with nothing more than a pillow, sleeping bag and a cardboard box as insulation, Arocca will leave all luxuriesat home and do it tough in the name of charity.“I will brave the elements and experience homelessness fi rst hand to help raise money and awareness of homeless people. This will be the third time I have slept rough to support a wonderful cause.” Arocca said. There are more than 100,000 Australians who fi nd themselves homeless each night of the year and
the Vinnies CEO Sleepout is a unique way for business leaders to raise awareness and funds for essential homeless services. Mr. Arocca’s friends and colleagues from the legal, football, corporate andmotorsport worlds helped out with sponsorship for this wonderful cause.Money raised through sponsors directly assists Vinnies to provide relief to the homeless through crisis accommodation, domestic violence support, soup van services and access to budgetcounselling, cooking skills and legal advice. The evening could become something of a battle between CAMS and the TAC with Mr. Arocca to be joined by TAC Chief Executive Janet Dore. Arocca recently expressed concerns thatnot enough is being done to educate
pre learner drivers, so it could be interesting for other CEO’s to hear what the two discuss when they sleep out together on June 20. Strange bedfellows perhaps, but whatever the night brings... the TAC andCAMS are united in their support of the homeless.“It’s a great cause, and for some short term pain it’s worth the gain for Vinnies. I might be a little slow on the uptake at the offi ce the next day, but it’s worth it!” Arocca said
