How to use ClusterDesktop Note: Before connecting to your computer, download and install ClusterDesktop for your operating system. For more information see Tutorials on how-to install/run ClusterDesktop. To start working remotely on your computer use one of the following methods – VNC, RDP, SCP or noVNC connection:

I. VNC connection

1. Check on your account if VNC port is open – click once on it if closed / when the button is white – the port is closed, and when the button is blue – the port is open for one connection / as shown in the picture below

2. For VNC and RDP connection we suggest using Jump /you can use any VNC or RDP client available on Android/.

3. Standard VNC connection using Jump

➢ Download and install Jump

➢ Run Jump and click “Manual Setup”

➢ Type your server and port, check VNC and click “Save”

Example: server-001.clusterdesktop.com:1029

➢ To connect to remote computer click on the connection you just saved

➢ Type your VNC password if you have one and click “Login”

4. VNC connection using Jump with SSH

➢ Add connection

➢ Type localhost:55900

➢ Check VNC

➢ Click „Save“

➢ Click on SSH Tunnel

➢ Set up as shown in the picture

➢ To connect to remote computer click on the connection you just saved

5. Standard VNC connection using Remote Ripple

➢ Install and run Remote Ripple

➢ Click to add new connection

➢ Set up as shown in the picture

1 On Host type: your Clusterdesktop server

2. On Port type: your Clusterdesktop port

3. Click „Save“

Example: server-001.clusterdesktop.com:1029

➢ To connect to remote computer, click on the connection you just saved

➢ Type your VNC password and click OK

6. VNC connection using Remote Ripple with SSH (ConnectBot)

➢ Install and run ConnectBot

➢ Type your Remote computer Username, ClusterDesktop server and SCP port as shown in the picture below

Exsample: [email protected]:1031

➢ Click “Yes”

➢ Type your remote computer password and click Enter

1 On Nickname type: 55900

2. On Source port type: 55900

3. On Destination type: localhost:55900

4. Click „Create port forward“

➢ Run Remote Ripple

➢ Click to add new connection

1. On Host type: localhost

2. On Port type: 55900

3. Click „Save“

➢ To connect to remote computer, click on the connection you just saved

➢ Type your VNC password and click OK

II. Remote Desktop Connection

1. In the site of ClusterDesktop, when logged in, check if RDP port is open – click once on it if closed

2. Connect using Jump

➢ Run Jump and click “Manual Setup”

➢ Type your server, port and click “Save”

Example: server-001.clusterdesktop.com:1030

➢ To connect to remote computer click on the connection you just saved

3. RDP connection using Jump with SSH

➢ Add connection

➢ Type localhost:3389

➢ Click „Save“

➢ Click on SSH Tunnel

4. Connect using Microsoft Remote Desktop

➢ Run Microsoft Remote Desktop and add new connection

➢ Type Connection name, your RDP ClusterDeskto Server and Port and click “Done” as shown in the picture below

➢ To connect to remote computer click on the connection you just saved

1 Type remote computer Username

2. Type remote computer password

3. Click „Login“

5. RDP connection using Microsoft Remote Desktop with SSH (ConnectBot)

➢ Run ConnectBot

➢ Type your Remote computer User name, ClusterDesktop server and SCP port as shown in the picture below

➢ Type Connection name, localhost:3389 and click “Done” as shown in the picture below

➢ Set up as shown in the picture

1. Type remote computer User name

2. Type remote computer password

3. Click „Login“

III. SCP connection

1. In the site of ClusterDesktop, when logged in, check if SCP port is open – click once on it, if closed

2. Connect with SFTP Protocol

➢ Install and run ES File Explorer

➢ Click on “New” and select SFTP

➢ Type as shown in the picture

1. ClusterDesktop Server

2. SCP Port

Example: server-001.clusterdesktop.com:1031

3. Remote computer Username

4. Remote computer password

5. Connection name

6. Click „OK“

➢ To connect to remote computer click on the connection you just saved

➢ You can find your computer file structure in folder home or cygdrive (for Windows hosts)

3. Ftp connection using port forward from SSH (ConnectBot)

➢ Run ConnectBot

➢ Type your Remote computer User Name, ClusterDesktop server and SCP port as shown in the picture

➢ Click “Yes”

➢ Click on “Port Forwards”

➢ Click on „New“ and select FTP

➢ To connect to remote computer click on the connection you just saved

➢ You can find your computer file structure in folder home or cygdrive (for Windows hosts)

IV. You can play videos and music saved on your remote computer

1. Play videos or music saved on your remote computer using SFTP connection /with this method the file is downloaded to a temporary folder and then played from it/

➢ Start ES File Explorer and connect to your remote computer as shown in III. SCP Connection / 2. Connect with SFTP Protocol

➢ Find the file you want to play, tap and choose program to open it as shown in the picture below

2. Audio and video streaming using FTP connection (with this method the file is streamed/played directly from your remote computer)

➢ Install ConnectBot and ES File Explorer

➢ Run ConnectBot and ES File Explorer and connect to your remote computer as shown in III. SCP Connection/ 3. Ftp connection using port forward from SSH (ConnectBot)

➢ Find the file you want to play, tap and choose program to open it

3.1 Set up ConnectBot

➢ Install and run ConnectBot on device from which you are accessing your computer

➢ Type your Remote computer User Name, ClusterDesktop server and SCP port as shown in the picture below

1. Click on Media

➢ Click „Add“, select video you want to stream and click “Open”

➢ Click „Stream“

➢ Click „Next“

➢ Click „File“, select HTTP and click „Add“

➢ Set up as shown in the picture

1. Port 8080

2. Type /stream

3. Click „Stream“

3.3 Start streaming

➢ Open VLC on device from which you are accessing your computer and set up as shown in the picture

V. NoVNC connection

1. Login to your account in ClusterDesktop site

2. Check if noVNC port is open – click once on it if closed

3. Click on “Open noVNC HTML5” as shown in the picture

Note: If your internet connection is slow, you can set different timeout for connecting with noVNC as shown in the picture

4. Type: 1 - your server and noVNC port /if not already filled in/, 2 - your VNC password if you have one (if note leave blank ) and 3 - click “Connect” as shown in the picture
