I cannot say I would highly recommend turkey smoothies. One thing I am thankful for is having the opportunity to work with so many of the club members over the past two years. As my tenure as President expires in January, I would like to take this opportunity to announce the club officers for 2013. The new Region President is Luke Stakenborg. I know he will advance the region further. Please give him all the support you can. The new Region Vice President is Joann Richardson. Joann has been a very active force in the club for many years and will add a lot to the future direction of the Region. The new Treasurer is not new at all. She may look like a young lass, but Nicki Hudson will remain our Treasurer as she has for the past…, well it is a whole lot of years. The new Secretary is Scott Patton who is probably wondering what he did to deserve this honor. Scott, that will teach you to be energetic and efficient. I know he will do a fantastic job. The Directors-at-Large for 2013 are Jim Batchelder, Joe Drago and Pam Pandolfi. Rounding out the table is Ralph Lankford who was elected to continue as our ODMA representative alongside Franklin. Please give these motivated members all the support you can in the year to come. Also, looking ahead to next year, we already have a number of activities planned. Next year’s Rohr Memorial Car Meet will be September 21, 2013, and Bill Sessler will once again be the show chairman. He will be dis-ably assisted by yours truly as a co-chair. Look for us to be calling upon you to help us continue the great success we have had with this event. Additionally, on March 9, 2013 there will be a Hunt dinner/dance at the Fauquier Springs Country Club in Warrenton, VA. They will pay the club $250 to display three 1920’s to 1930’s vintage cars at the entrance from 6:30 pm to 8:45 pm. Their theme is the Roaring 20’s and they are looking for “gangster” type cars with running boards. The cars would be used as a photo backdrop for guest pictures and to set the mood. The drivers are invited to join the guest for the buffet and social hour or be available to talk about their vehicles. There will be more on this later. Now back to the present, our next club meeting is Dec 9 and is also our annual cookie exchange. Bring 2-3 dozen cookies of one type and go (continued on Page 5)

TIPS & ADVICE - Penetrating Oils:

Machinist’s Workshop Mag™ recently published some information on various penetratingoils that I found very interesting. Some of you might appreciate this. The magazine reportsthey tested penetrates for break out torque on rusted nuts.

They are below, as forwarded by an ex-student and professional machinist. They arrangeda subjective test of all the popular penetrates with the control being the torque required toremove the nut from a “scientifically rusted” environment.

“Penetrating oil .......... Average load”

None ........................... 516 poundsWD-40 ........................ 238 poundsPB Blaster .................. 214 poundsLiquid Wrench ............ 127 poundsKano Kroil .................. 106 poundsATF*-Acetone mix....... 53 pounds

The ATF- Acetone mix was a “home brew” mix of 50-50 automatic transmission fluid andacetone. Note the “home brew” was better than any commercial product in this oneparticular test.

Our local machinist group mixed up a batch and we all now use it with equally good results.

Note also that “Liquid Wrench” is almost as good as “Kroil” for about 20% of the price.

Steve from Godwin-Singer says that ATF - Acetone mix is the best and you can also useATF - lacquer thinner 50 - 50 mix.

*AFT=Automatic Transmission Fluid

Thanks to Mel Hibbard through Franklin Gage for this article.
