CME & CNE Joint Providership for ACC Chapters Tuesday, November 10, 2015 What you will learn today What is purposeful education at ACC What is meant by an accredited provider of CME/CNE Joint providership as a special service offered to ACC Chapters Purposeful Education at ACC a Strategic Theme Transform CV workforce by developing a personalized, competency-based educational experience; producing a curriculum that addresses clinical, administration and leadership skills; and engaging and expanding the community of learners. Delivering the right education to the right person at the right time ACCME & ANCC Accreditation ACC is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians ACC was awarded Accreditation with Commendation in 2013 for a six year term ACC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Centers Commission on Accreditation What is a Joint Providership? The ACCME defines joint providership as the: providership of a CME activity by one accredited and one non-accredited organization. Therefore, ACCME accredited providers that plan and present one or more activities with a non-ACCME accredited provider are engaging in a joint providership What does this mean in plain English? The American College of Cardiology is the accredited provider. An ACC Chapter is the non-accredited provider As the accredited provider, ACC must take full responsibility for the content and conduct of a CME activity. What is meant by full responsibility? Documentation of needs assessment Analysis of gaps in learners knowledge, competence or performance A Planning Committee Process Development of a fair-balanced & evidence based agenda Disclosure and resolution of real or perceived conflicts of interest Management of commercial support Evaluation & outcomes assessment of program Why is ACC so careful with Joint Providerships? The ACCME may request an audit of any certified activity for which ACC jointly provides CME If there are any complaints regarding a Chapter Joint Providership, ACC is accountable The ACC educational brand stands for high- quality, evidence-based and fair balanced activities and must not be compromised Quality Standards for Certified Education at ACC Evidence of needs assessment & gap analysis Evidence-based and fair balanced educational content Peer review Overall goal for activity Learning objectives actionable & measurable Evaluation, assessment and expected outcomes of activity Lack of commercial bias and input by a commercial entity Compliance with ACCME and ANCC Standards and Guidelines Ongoing involvement in the planning process.
