暗黑宇宙

宇宙的奇妙遠超我們的想像。

恆星、行星、以至是我們身體都由原

子組成，但它們構成宇宙整體不足百

分之五。另外的百分之二十五是不可

見而又神秘的暗物質。它提供了令星

系集結所需要的引力。餘下的百分之

七十稱為暗能量，它令宇宙加速膨脹，

並限制了人類可以觀測到的宇宙大

小。有些天文學家推測，倘若把可觀

測宇宙比作天象廳球幕般大小，整個

宇宙則可能會比地球更大，甚至有人

認為它可能是無限大的。

天象節目《暗黑宇宙》在引領觀眾離

開銀河系之餘，又可隨著降落傘闖進

木星大氣層，搜索宇宙在遠古時期的

歷史證據，甚至帶他們直抵大爆炸後

的早期宇宙。節目更會介紹天文學上

的突破，讓我們能更詳細準確地了解

宇宙的形成和演變。一場穿越已知世

界通往未知的宇宙之旅，在《暗黑宇

宙》中盛大展開。

Dark Universe

The Universe is a curious place—more so than we ever imagined.

Atoms, which make up the stars, planets and even our bodies, amount to less than 5 percent of the content of the Universe. Another 25 percent is made of a mysterious, invisible dark matter. It supplies the gravitational force needed to hold galaxies together. The remaining 70 percent, known as dark energy, accounts for the accelerated expansion of the Universe and sets a limit on the size of the Universe that humans can observe. Some astronomers speculate that if the observable Universe were the size of a planetarium dome, the entire Universe would be larger than the planet Earth—others even suggest that it may be infinitely large.

The Sky Show “Dark Universe” whisks audiences out of our home galaxy, drops them alongside a parachute descending through Jupiter’s atmosphere to find evidence of what happened even earlier in cosmic history, and brings them all the way to the afterglow of the Big Bang while revealing the breakthroughs in astronomy that give us an increasingly detailed and precise picture of how the Universe formed and evolved. Come along on a great journey about what we already know—and about the mysteries that we have yet to solve—in “Dark Universe”.

奇幻冰極

北極地區總是帶着神秘色彩，也是神

話傳說中的迷人勝境。然而，這裏每

年有九個月被冰雪覆蓋，生存環境比

世上其他地方更為嚴苛。這裏乍似冷

酷無情，原來卻是不少物種的家園——

北極熊、弓頭鯨、一角鯨、厚嘴海鴉，

還有人類皆居於此，北冰洋部分水域

更是全球最豐饒的海洋生態系統之一。

數千年來，因紐特人和前居者適應了

北極地區，並在此落地生根。他們在

冰原上尋找食物，互相交往，起居作

息。為了生存，因紐特人還發展出一

些特別的技能，他們透過觀察冰雪反

照在雲層上的光，便能判斷在遠處有

沒有開闊的水域。這些傳統智慧正好

幫助前來研究的科學家。

現時，北極地區已成為研究重點，科

學家揭露了全球人類的活動如何影響

這片遙遠脆弱的地方。全球暖化對北

極地區的影響比世上其他地方更為嚴

重，北冰洋上的永久浮冰已縮減近百

分之七十，如情況持續，終有一天北

冰洋在夏季將完全無冰。世代生長在

這片冰天雪地的動植物和居民能否適

應這種變化？

全天域電影《奇幻冰極》在探訪這片

奇妙異境之餘，更會介紹冰對於北極

地區和全球各地所發揮的重要作用。

Wonders of the Arctic

The Arctic has always been a place of mystery, myth and fascination. Dominated by the ice and snow for about nine months a year, it is also regarded as one of the harshest environments on Earth. While frosty and unforgiving as it may seem, the Arctic is the home of many species such as polar bears, bowhead whales, narwhals, thick-billed murres, as well as human. Parts of the Arctic Ocean are even among the most productive marine ecosystems in the world.

The Inuit and their predecessors adapted and thrived in the Arctic for thousands of years. The ice is where the Inuit find food, get together and live. To survive, they have developed some special skills. Inuit can tell if there is open water far away by watching the reflection of the ice on the clouds. Such traditional knowledge has also become useful to the scientists who study the place.

Today, the Arctic is a focus of intense research. Scientists are revealing the impacts of human activities around the world on this remote and fragile place. Global warming affects the Arctic more than elsewhere. The permanent ice pack in the Arctic Ocean has shrunk by nearly 70 percent. If the trend continues, one day the Arctic Ocean will be completely ice free in the summer. Will plants, animals and the people who have been living with ice for generations adapt to this change?

The OMNIMAX Show “Wonders of the Arctic” not only explores this wonderful place, but also describes the crucial role that ice plays in the northern environment and the world. Let’s follow the scientists and the Inuit to scrutinize the kingdom of ice.

可知道位於赤道附近的肯尼亞山，山

頂竟然被冰雪所覆蓋？為何數十萬隻

紅鸛會聚集在柏哥利亞湖，湖水中又

有甚麼令紅鸛變成粉紅色？大象族群

原來是依靠族中年長的母象帶領去尋

找隱蔽的水源！

全天域電影《原野非洲》讓觀眾置身

集大自然寬厚與嚴酷、可怕與瑰麗

等極致於一身的地區，亦會從這裏的

珍禽異獸身上，認識不可思議的地

Wild Africa

Water crafts Africa, the most dramatic continent on the Earth. Whether it is travelling above the plains on seasonal winds, cascading along raging rivers, or sheltering coral cities, water conjures up life like magic.

Water will also be our guide through the distinct realms in Africa, to discover the fascinating secrets of this enchanted kingdom. Do you know that Mount Kenya, which is located near the equator, is topped with ice and snow? Why do hundreds of thousands of flamingos gather in Lake Bogoria and what is in the water that turns the birds pink? The elephant herd is led by the matriarch, one of the oldest female, on their search for hidden water.

In the OMNIMAX Show “Wild Africa”, audience will plunge into nature at its most generous and most harsh, most terrible and most beautiful. They will also encounter extraordinary animals which reveal amazing lessons about the Earth. Come and join us, the watery adventure is about to begin.

下一站—太空 3D

未來建基於過去。自古以來，人類一

直夢想能夠翱翔天際，可是要到 1783年，孟戈菲兄弟製造的熱氣球，才令

人類在不受繫留的情況下飛上天空。

在前往太空的漫長旅途上，尤里 ‧ 加

加林成為了第一位圍繞地球飛行的人

類，而杭思朗則率先踏足月球。為了

讓人類能在太空中逗留更長時間，太

空站也相繼建成，例如和平號太空站

和國際太空站；而順埋成章的下一步

就是派人登陸火星。

在太空穿梭機退役後，不少讓人類更

便捷地前往太空的概念相繼出現。試

想想，只要登上核能熱力火箭，六個

月後便能到達火星。再想像一下，假

如有了太空升降機，前往太空港就會

像乘計程車到機場般容易。另外，有

些科學家構思出一個興建於小行星內

部的圓筒形太空殖民地，只要裝上推

進系統，殖民星便可作跨世代星際航

行。而美國太空總署的物理學家，更

認真地研究空間翹曲理論，希望終有

一日，人類能以超光速躍進太空。

立體全天域電影《下一站－太空 3D》

帶領觀眾一窺未來，探討私人太空企

業和國家級太空計劃的新構思。未來，

正等待你來發現。

The future begins with the past . S ince t ime immemorial, man has been dreaming of flight. However, it was not until 1783 that the Montgolfier brothers’ hot air balloon lifted humans off the ground untethered for the first time.

Along the journey to space, Yuri Gagarin was the first human to orbit the Earth and Neil Armstrong was the first to walk on the Moon. Space stations, such as Mir and the International Space Station, were constructed to let humans stay in space for longer period of time. Putting people on the surface of Mars is the next logical step.

In the post-space shuttle era, many exciting ideas are being explored to let humans get into space easier and more efficient. Imagine one can travel to Mars in just six months in a nuclear thermal rocket. What if getting to the space port using a space elevator was as easy as hopping a cab to the airport? Some scientists envisioned a giant cylindrical space colony built within an asteroid. Outfitted with a propulsion system, the entire colony could be used for multigenerational interstellar travel. NASA physicists are even undertaking serious efforts to learn more about the theory of space warping, hoping someday we can leap into space at faster-than-light speed.

The 3D OMNIMAX Show “Space Next 3D” offers a glimpse into tomorrow, and the possibilities of what is to come by way of private space developments and national space programs. Come discover what is next.

紙板太空船的秘密 Secret of the Cardboard

Rocket

The audiences of the School Show “Secret of the Cardboard Rocket” will join two children and a talking astronomy book on a magical journey by travelling on a cardboard rocket throughout the Solar System.

During the tour, they will visit the Sun, the eight planets and Pluto; land on Venus, Mars and Pluto; fly through the Great Red Spot on Jupiter; and view the Sun and other planets from vantage points.

School Show “Dawn of the Space Age” re-lives the excitement of the early days of space exploration and chronicles the major milestones of the space age: from the historic launch of the first artificial satellite “Sputnik 1”, man’s heroic entry in space, the thrilling first spacewalk, the magnificent lunar landings, to the recent privately operated space flights.

學校節目《重返月球》重點介紹探索

月球的歷程，並從局內人的角度講

述來自不同國家的團隊競爭谷歌月

球 X 大獎 (Google Lunar XPRIZE) 的

故事。每個團隊必須成功將機械著

陸器降落在月球上，於月球表面行

走 500 米，並發送影片，相片和數據

返回地球。這個全球競賽的目的是激

發人們的想像力，讓太空探索不只限

於國家政府，而是各地民眾也可參與

其中。

影片帶領觀眾踏上一次成功發射，在

月球表面降落和遊走，並最後以出色

的畫面展現未來月球殖民的構想。

一個改編自美洲土著口述傳統的有趣

角色－土狼，探索地球、月球與太陽

之間的關係。土狼對我們所居住的地

球及其最為人所熟悉的近鄰存有許多

誤解。

Back to the Moon for Good

Earth, Moon and Sun

School Show “Back to the Moon for Good” highlights the history of lunar exploration and provides an insider’s look at the teams vying for the Google Lunar XPRIZE. Each participating team must land a robotic device on the Moon, navigate 500 meters over the lunar surface, and send video, images and data back to Earth. This global competition is designed to spark imagination and inspire a renewed commitment to space exploration, not by governments or countries – but by the citizens of the world.

The audience is taken on a successful launch, landing and tour of the lunar surface. The show ends with an enticing visualisation of a future settlement on the moon.

School Show “Earth, Moon and Sun” explores the relationship between the Earth, Moon and Sun with the help of Coyote, an amusing character adapted from Native American oral traditions who has many misconceptions about our home planet and its most familiar neighbours.

During the show, the audiences will learn why the Sun rises and sets, and the basics of fusion and solar energy. They will examine the Moon’s orbit, craters, phases and eclipses. The show will also explore past and future space travel to our Moon.

16 1716 常設展覽 Permanent Exhibition

To conduct a major renovation and replace all the exhibits, the two permanent exhibition halls in Hong Kong Space Museum are closed. It will re-open with a brand new face to bring the fun of astronomy and space science to the visitors through attractive exhibits.

The new exhibition halls, which will be renamed as the “Hall of the Cosmos” and “Hall of Space Exploration”, will be renovated into a new immersive environment. Through interesting and interactive exhibits and advanced equipment, with various lighting and environment decorations, both halls will introduce astronomical knowledge such as the evolution of the universe, space exploration and the solar system.

With a total area of 1,600 square meters, about 100 sets of new exhibits will be installed in the two halls, of which about 70 percent are interactive exhibits, to simulate the novel experience of travelling through space and time. Visitors may stand on surfing boards to venture through different objects in space to understand the warping of space by gravity or they may enter an upside down virtual space station to experience the disorientation feeling in the weightlessness environment in space.

During the closure of the exhibition halls, temporary exhibitions will be organised in the museum foyer. Other outreach programmes, stargazing and astronomical observation activities will also continue to be held. We look forward to presenting an attractive brand new face to you after the exhibit renovation

為全面更換展品及進行翻新工程，香

港太空館展覽廳現已關閉。展覽廳將

以全新面貌開放，透過精彩的展品，

讓觀眾領略天文及太空科學的樂趣。

新展廳將分別改名為「宇宙展覽廳」

和「太空探索展覽廳」，並將翻新成

一個嶄新的模擬環境，利用有趣的互

動展品和先進的儀器，配合燈光效果

和環境裝飾，介紹宇宙的演化、太空

探索和太陽系等天文知識。

在合共一千六百平方米的兩個展覽廳

內，將安裝約一百套新設計的展品，

當中約有七成屬互動展品，為觀眾帶

來模擬穿越時空的新體驗。觀眾可站

在滑浪板上，在太空各天體間穿梭，

了解重力對空間的扭曲；或可進入一

個上下顛倒的虛擬太空站，體驗在

太空中處於無重狀態下迷失方向的

感覺。

展廳關閉期間，太空館將於大堂舉辦

短期展覽，並會繼續舉辦其他外展教

育和觀星等活動。希望展廳更新後，

以更吸引的全新面貌再與大家見面。

這張照片是美國太空總署朱諾號太空

船於 2016 年 8 月 27 日所拍攝的木

星北極。朱諾號於 2011 年升空，於

2016 年 7 月飛抵木星。它總共會圍繞

木星運行 37 圈，最後於木星上層大氣

焚毀。朱諾號在圍繞木星運行的第一

圈拍攝到這張照片。當時朱諾號距離

木星雲層只有約 4,200 公里，能清楚

看到木星北極上層大氣的特徵。

朱諾號新發現 New Discoveries by Juno

Do you know which planet it is?

This image was taken by NASA’s Juno spacecraft on 27th August 2016, showing the nor th po le o f Jup i te r. Juno was launched in 2011 and arrived at Jupiter in July 2016. It will orbit Jupiter 37 times and ultimately burn up in Jupiter’s upper atmosphere. This image was taken during i t s f i r s t orb i t . Juno was about 4 ,200 kilometers above Jupiter’s cloud then. The features of the upper atmosphere of Jupiter’s north pole can be seen clearly.

科學家首次清晰地觀看木星的北極。

這區域呈現偏藍的顏色，而且有大量

風暴。此外，與木星的赤道地區不同，

這裡並沒有緯度紋帶的痕跡。這些都

是意料之外的發現。

這只是朱諾號圍繞木星運行 37 圈

This is only the first of its total 37 orbits of Juno’s journey. The entire mission will end in February 2018. Let us all see what Juno will show us in its complete journey to Jupiter!

The Radio and Plasma Wave Sensor, another instrument on Juno, recorded ghostly-sounding transmissions emanating from the surface of the planet. These radio emissions from Jupiter were first known by scientists in the 1950s but have never been analysed from such a close position before. Scientists shifted the signals into the audio frequency. These “Juno sounds” can be searched on the internet and you may listen to these radio emissions of Jupiter’s auroras.

Other scientific instruments on Juno were also turned on. The Jovian Infrared Auro-ral Mapper shot this infrared image at the south pole of Jupiter. This image showing Jupiter’s southern aurora has never been taken before from Earth or space. Scientists discovered that Jupiter’s southern aurora is very bright and well-structured.

This is the first time that scientists see the Jupiter’s north pole in such details. It is bluish in colour with a lot of storms. Moreover, unlike the equatorial zone of Jupiter, there are no signs of the latitudinal belts at the north pole. All these discoveries are unexpected.

香港高度城市化，令黑夜猶如白晝。

但只要天氣情況良好，我們仍能看到

天空中最明亮的天體。我們在 2016 年

7-9 月的通訊向大家介紹過一些行星，

今期將介紹夜空中最明亮的一些恆

星。這些恆星在天空中的位置幾乎不

變，但由於地球圍繞太陽公轉，因此

整個星空也會隨日期而偏移。如能掌

握部份亮星的特徵，則有助辨認出天

上其他的恆星。

天狼星

天狼星是夜空中最明亮的恆星，它位

於大犬座，於冬季可見。天狼星與其

附近五顆明亮的恆星，包括參宿七、

畢宿五、五車二、北河三及南河三，

組成一個稱為「冬季六邊形」的星群，

十分悅目。天狼星距離地球約 9 光年，

算是一顆較為接近地球的恆星。

參宿四

參宿四是獵戶座第二亮星，但它只比

第一亮星參宿七暗淡一點。它是一顆

紅巨星，由於表面溫度較低，因此放

出偏紅色的光芒，在冬季夜空中顯而

易見。在附近環繞著它的是由六顆明

亮的星所組成的「冬季六邊形」。在

冬季的夜空中有如此多明亮的恆星，

十分適合初學者觀看。

香港市區可見的明亮恆星

Bright Stars Visible in the Urban Areas of Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a highly urbanised society and its night sky is lit up by artificial light. However, under good weather conditions, bright celestial objects in the sky are still visible. We have introduced some planets in the July-September 2016 issue of our newsletter and now we are going to introduce some of the brightest stars in the night sky to you. The positions of the stars in the sky almost remain static. However, as the Earth orbits the Sun, the entire starry sky shifts every day. If we know the features of some bright stars, it can help us to identify other stars in the sky.

Sirius

Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky. It is located in the constellation Canis Major and is visible in winter. Sirius together with five other bright stars nearby, namely Rigel, Aldebaran, Capella, Pollux and Procyon, form a very eye-catching asterism called the Winter Hexagon. Sirius is a star very close to the Earth as it is only about 9 light years away.

Betelgeuse

Betelgeuse is the second brightest star in the constellation Orion but it is just slightly dimmer than the first brightest star Rigel. It is a red giant star. Due to its low surface temperature, it emits a reddish light, which is noticeable in the winter night sky. Surrounding it is the Winter Hexagon that is composed of six bright stars. With so many bright stars, the winter night sky is very suitable for beginners to observe.

心宿二

心宿二是天蠍座最明亮的恆星，由於

它呈紅色，在中國古代稱之為「大

火」，亦正是《詩經》成語「七月流火」

中所指的「火」。於夏季，很容易就

能在南方夜空中找到它。在良好的觀

星環境下，更可輕易見到整個天蠍座。

The three brightest stars in the image above form the Summer Triangle. The brightest one is Vega, and the second and the third brightest stars are Altair and Deneb respectively. Can you recognise them?

是 22.5 度。

A star trail image taken in Lam Tin. The star that is almost static in the centre is Polaris. The altitude of Polaris is roughly the same as the latitude of the observing site. In Hong Kong, that is about 22.5 degrees.

織女星

織女星位於天琴座，是夏季夜空中一

顆非常耀眼的恆星。它和另外兩顆恆

星，天鷹座的牛郎星及天鵝座的天津

四，組成稱為「夏季大三角」的星群。

在漆黑清朗的夜空中，甚至能看到織

女星和牛郎星中間那條由數之不盡的

恆星所組成的銀河。

北極星

北半球觀星者會發現在北方天空有一

部份的星星是永遠位於地平線之上

的，這部份的星星稱為拱極星，而拱

極星圍繞的中心則是天球北極。巧合

地，有一顆較亮的星非常接近天球北

極，這顆星亦因而幾乎靜止不動，因

此人們稱之為北極星。

Vega

Vega is located in the constellation Lyra. It is a very bright star in the summer night sky. Together with two other nearby bright stars, Altair in Aquila and Deneb in Cygnus, they form an asterism called the Summer Triangle. In a dark and clear night sky, we can even see the Milky Way that is formed by numerous stars between Vega and Altair.

Polaris

Stargazers in the Northern Hemisphere will find that there are stars in the northern sky that are always above the horizon and we call them the circumpolar stars. All the circumpolar stars are circling around a central point called the North Celestial Pole. Coincidentally, there is a rather bright star which is very close to the North Celestial Pole. This star is almost static and hence people call it Polaris.

Antares

Anta res i s t he b r igh tes t s t a r i n t he constellation Scorpius. Ancient Chinese called it “Big Fire” because of its reddish appearance. In the sentence “In the seventh month westward and the Fire star inclines” of The Book of Songs, the “Fire star” refers to the star Antares. During summer, it is very easy to find it in the southern night sky. Under a good stargazing environment, the entire constellation Scorpius can be seen easily.

讓觀眾得知這項令人興奮的天文現象的詳情。弗雷德，綽號日食先生，四十年來走遍全球

追蹤達 27 次日全食，可謂經驗豐富。他將會透過照片和錄影片與觀眾分享他的冒險經歷。

On August 21, 2017, the continental United States will experience its first total eclipse of the Sun in nearly 40 years. The world renowned solar eclipse expert, Mr. Fred Espenak, will describe the path of the eclipse using detailed maps and the audience will learn all about this exciting event. With four decades of experience chasing 27 Total Solar Eclipses around the globe, Fred, also known as Mr. Eclipse, will share some of his adventures through photos and videos. 伽利略在 400 年前利用一支簡單的天文望遠鏡在夜空中找到了改寫人類對世界認識的大發

現。他親眼見到看似光滑的月球表面，原來佈滿高低起伏的環形山和撞擊坑，亦發現耀眼

的金星竟也有不為人知的盈虧現象，更見證有四顆衞星如何規律地環繞木星公轉。這些發

現導致了天文學的大革命，將原以為是世界中心的地球變成為太陽系中的一顆普通行星。

今天，即使在維港兩岸璀璨的燈光之下，仍然可以透過天文望遠鏡，窺探月球和行星的真

面目，感受伽利略當年發現一幕震驚世界的景象時的心情。

收集箱」。

二. 取錄方式以報名表格交回之先後次序為準，但早於指定時間所交回的表格並不會獲優先處理。

三. 所有報名表格於交回時均須附上有效的劃線支票（抬頭請寫「香港特別行政區政府」）。

四. 除課程被取消或額滿外，已繳費用，概不退還。

五. 在必要時，太空館有權更改原定的主講人、上課地點及時間。

六. 在八號或以上熱帶氣旋訊號／黑色暴雨警告懸掛後，當日活動則會取消，更改日期將另行通知。

Special notice: To conduct a major renovation and replace all the exhibits, the two permanent exhibition halls in Hong Kong Space Museum are closed. It will re-open with a brand new face to bring the fun of astronomy and space science to the visitors through attractive exhibits.

Currently, the box office only sells tickets of Stanley Ho Space Theatre and Lecture Hall programmes which use the URBTIX service. Ticket sales for Exhibition Halls have been suspended until further notice.
