Navigating Gender and Identity Issues in the Church This is a time when gender politics is the source of great tension and confusion. Can the church offer truly meaningful guidance to those who are navigating the difficult waters of gender and identity? This presentation will shed light on some of the medical, scientific, psychological, social, and spiritual elements of transgender concerns. Stiegemeyer eschews simplistic answers and addresses the theological and pastoral complexity of the issue.

Our speaker Professor Scott Stiegemeyer is originally from Kansas City, MO. Scott graduated from Concordia

University-Ann Arbor, MI in 1991 and Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, IN in 1995. He earned a master's degree in bioethics from Trinity International University in Deerfield, IL in 2015. He has served as a pastor in Pittsburgh, PA, the Director of Admission at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN, pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elmhurst, IL, and now professor of theology and bioethics at Concordia University, Irvine. In Pittsburgh, he and a fellow pastor had a weekly radio broadcast where they addressed issues of faith and culture. He has been interviewed on Issues, Etc. numerous times over the years on pop culture and ethics. He delivered a paper at the 2012 Good Shepherd Institute in Fort Wayne on the topic of postmodernism and youth ministry. His teaching experience in addition to Irvine include DMin courses at CTS-FW on the theology of the body and a course on ministering in a digital age. Scott has had articles in Higher Things magazine, Concordia Theological Quarterly and has spoken at numerous conferences. On marriage, he published United in Christ from Concordia Publishing House. He also co-wrote, with his wife, a book on marriage which came out in 2014, Your Marriage By God's Design. Scott is married to Julie, a writer, and they have one son. A busy writer, professor and family man, Scott is also currently working on a doctorate in bioethics from Loyola University, Chicago. He also has a podcast called “The Crux of the Matter”

Ministry in a Digital Age Marshall McLuhan said that the medium is the message. St. Paul said that faith comes by hearing. In the era of new media, the church finds innovative ways to communicate the unchanging gospel of Jesus Christ. Our society has changed significantly in this generation with the explosion of digital technology. The tools we use alter how we live and how we think. Are the implements of digital technology value neutral? How can we wisely take advantage of their benefits to advance the gospel without undermining our essential message? In this presentation, we will explore a theology of technology so that we don't just blindly adopt practices without discerning the deep effects they have upon us.
