830A Jurong West Street 71/81 have already been an-nounced and the Town Council has rolled out plans for 64 improvement projects with a total cost of $6.5m!

With these substantial government-funded proj-ects, Nanyang will be rejuvenated, benefitting residents on a daily basis.

This is, of course, all ‘hardware’. ‘Heartware’ is equally important to us all. It warms my heart to see so many residents of all races, ages and backgrounds coming to join in our events like Tree Planting Day, My Block Sparkles and Cleaner’s Appreciation Day. It is your involvement in the community that makes Nanyang a great place to live.

In this brief report from the Town Council you’ll see that, in the past few years, we’ve made many improvements in Nanyang – to enhance the quality of your life as well as the value of your home.

Major projects include an ongoing Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP) at Blocks 933 to 953 Jurong West Street 91. We are also working closely with the Land Transport Authority to introduce a new network of cycling paths for the safety of both cyclists and pedes-trians.

Meanwhile, the Town Council has completed many improvements throughout our division, including the provision of covered linkways, fitness corners, game courts and drop-off porches.

We have also rolled out a “3G Hub”, an all-in-one area where neighbours of all ages can spend time to-gether, building community bonds.

In the next few years, you can expect more up-grades and improvements, NRPs as well as new Home Improvement Programmes.

亲爱的居民和朋友们从市镇理事会此次发布的简报中可以看出，过去几年内，我们已经在南洋做了很多的改进，进一步提升了居民朋友们的生活素质。

裕廊西91街的933到953座的邻区更新计划以及其它重大项目正在如火如荼地进行中。我们与陆路交通管理局密切合作，筹划增设一条全新的自行车道线路，为自行车骑士们和行人提供更多安全。

与此同时，市镇理事会也已经完成了数十个升级项目，包括增设有盖走廊、健身角落、游乐场和有盖落客点。

我们还推出了“三代同堂” (3G Hub) 的社区计划，使所有年龄段的居民都可欢聚在此，锻炼身体，促进家庭和社区凝聚力。

在未来几年内，您将见证更多的升级和改造计划，其中包括邻区更新计划以及新的家居改进计划。

此外，裕廊西71/81街的711到731座组屋以及812到832,828A,830A座组屋的邻区更新计划也即将推行。市镇理事会已经进行了64项升级计划，总投入高达650万元!

有了这些政府资助的项目，南洋将焕然一新，充满活力，惠及居民。

Dalam laporan ringkas daripada Majlis Perbandaran ini anda akan lihat bahawa, dalam lima tahun kebelakan-gan, kami telah melakukan banyak penambahbaikan di Nanyang – untuk meningkatkan kualiti kehidupan anda serta nilai kediaman anda.

Projek-projek besar termasuk Program Pembaha-ruan Kejiranan yang sedang berlangsung di Blok 933 hingga 953 Jurong West Street 91. Kami juga sedang berurusan dengan Pihak Berkuasa Pengangkutan Tanah untuk memperkenalkan jaringan laluan berbasikal ba-haru demi keselamatan penunggang basikal dan pejalan kaki.

Sementara itu, Majlis Perbandaran telah menyiap-kan puluhan penambahbaikan di seluruh bahagian kami, termasuk peruntukan untuk laluan penghubung berbum-bung, sudut kecergasan, gelanggang permainan dan anjung menurunkan barangan.

Kami juga telah memperkenalkan “Hub 3G”, se-buah kawasan semua-dalam-satu di mana penduduk daripada semua peringkat umur boleh meluangkan masa bersama, bersenam bersama dan mengeratkan hubungan mereka.

Dalam beberapa tahun yang akan datang, anda

akan melihat lebih banyak penambahbaikan dan pen-ingkatan, NRP serta Program Penambahbaikan Rumah yang baharu.

NRP untuk Blok 711-731 dan 812-832, 828A, 830A Jurong West Street 71/81 telah diumumkan dan Majlis Perbandaran telah membentangkan pelan untuk 64 pro-jek penambahbaikan dengan jumlah kos $6.5m!

Dengan projek yang kebanyakannya dibiayai oleh kerajaan ini, Nanyang diberikan wajah baru, dan me-manfaatkan penduduk setiap hari.

Ini, sudah tentu, semuanya ‘Kebendaan’. “keperi-hatinan” juga sama penting bagi kita semua. Saya rasa sungguh terharu melihat banyak penduduk dari semua peringkat umur, bangsa dan latar belakang yang datang untuk menyertai acara kami seperti Hari Menanam Po-kok, Blok Saya Berkilat dan Hari Menghargai Tukang Cuci. Penyertaan anda dalam bermasyarakat lah menja-dikan Nanyang tempat yang selesa untuk didiami.

For Singapore to thrive – and for Nanyang to be everything you

want – it’s important for us all to come together as one community.

To help this happen, we have get-togethers, parties, dinners, outings and other events. We have organised sports leagues, clubs and interest groups.

The Fun Walkers @ SouthWest is one of the most popular community activities we have. Not only does it give you good, regular exercise, brisk-walking gives you a great opporltunity to get to know your neighbours and have a good chat.

We believe in celebrating ALL the Festivals. Not just the festivals that are part of our own religion and culture, but the festivals that are important to our neighbours and friends. We get to know one another better that way, and we have good times all through the year!

We encourage healthy living, active lifestyles in our community through regular health promoting activities such as the Great Singapore Workout. Other than the health benefits it brings, it also strengthens our commu-nity ties, social and family bonds!

We believe community action matters

Our founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, decided that a Garden City would have an advantage and started planting trees in 1963. We continue the annual tradition of Tree Planting Day as the best way to nurture a love and respect for the trees that cool our neighbourhoods.

The Town Council completed 85 projects in Nanyang in the past 5 years, including 20 children’s playgrounds,

19 covered linkways,

16 drop-off porches, and 3 fitness corners.

In addition 20 blocks are undergoing a Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP).

In the next 5 years we plan to spend $6.5m on 64 improvement projects, including 24 covered linkways, 8 drop-off porches, 6 playgrounds and 4 fitness corners. And

42 blocks have been selected for the NRP.

We’re growing our garden

We are improving and adding parks. Choa Chu Kang Park is the green heart of our Town. The park was re-cently expanded with new facilities such as innovative play areas for children. You’ll get to enjoy more new parks and leisure spaces soon.

We have great plans for the rail corridor; the section running beside the Sungei Pang Sua in particular. The international competition for design has closed and soon you will be able to give your feedback on the plans for the reuse of this wonderful 26-km long green path.

We are improving connectivity and accessibility by adding more sheltered linkways that are directly connected to MRT and LRT stations, as well as bus stops. This is all part of LTA’s Walk2Ride programme.

We’ll see 1,000 Government-funded buses running by 2017 for better service. The Downtown Line, opening soon, will connect with our LRT and offer an alternative for trips to the City. In 10 years, the upcoming Jurong Region Line will give us faster links to the West.

We’re growing our garden

We are building a network of approximately 12.5km of new off-road cycling paths in our Town. It’s part of the plan to build over 700km of cycling paths island-wide by 2030. LTA plans to implement the Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Panjang sectors around the same time, targeting completion in 2018 .

Together with the Ministry of Transport, we are looking into the possible redevelopment of the bus interchange within the next three to five years. This will be part of the broader redevelopment plans for the town centre.

The Home Improvement Programme (HIP) will be brought to all eligible blocks by 2020. It helps you deal with the maintenance problems common to ageing flats. If your block is selected for the HIP you’ll be offered a range of free Essential Improvements – such as fixing spalling concrete and replacing pipes and laundry pole holders – and heavily subsidised Optional Improvements – such as new bathroom fixtures.

We’re replacing the old style letterboxes with these new an-ti-junk-mail letter boxes. As Mr Wong Pai Chen of Block 920 said, “ The new letterbox is very convenient and I don’t get so much advertising paper now.”

We plan to add many amenities in the years ahead. The Town Council has also made plans to build two more BBQ pits with pavilions.

Solar power panels will be installed on the roofs of 40 blocks in our Town and HDB plans to install more. Re-cently HDB called tenders under EDB’s SolarNova Pro-gramme, which aims to have solar power contribute 350 MWp to Singapore’s system by 2020.

To encourage a greener lifestyle and give you more con-venience and security, we will install two-tier bicycle racks in all blocks that now have insufficient parking space for bicycles.

Automated External Defibrillators, or AEDs, will be in-stalled in every other block by the end of 2016. And for your security, the Police will install CCTV cameras in all HDB blocks and multi-storey carparks by 2017.

We’re working closely with NKF for a new NKF dialysis centre here in Nanyang.
