Dear Residents and Friendsspruced-up environment. The upgrading not only fixes common maintenance problems, it also offers residents the choice of subsidized improvements, like a new front door or bathroom fixtures.

In the area of security, the Police will complete the installation of CCTVs in all HDB blocks and multi-storey carparks.

A big boost coming your way soon is the arrival of the Hillview MRT station. In addition, road improvements in the areas of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Jalan Anak Bukit will reduce travelling times with the construction of new flyovers and widened roads. And, under the Walk2Ride programme, LTA will add many kilometres of covered linkways to connect schools, health care facili-ties and public amenities within a 400m radius of our Bukit Gombak and Hillview MRT stations. This will help make your journey more comfortable.

Most of all, we are all looking forward to the com-pletion of our Community Club in 2016. It will be a great place to get together for sports, learning, bonding and fun.

At many of our events and activities, I have been both impressed and heartened by the close bonds that have developed between residents and grassroots leaders in the HDB and private housing estates. For in-stance, our residents from all walks of life recently joined their hearts and hands to paint and decorate the SG50 wall murals in our void decks.

Let’s keep on working as one. Together, we can make sure Bukit Gombak is the best place to call home.

Ms Low Yen LingMayor of South West District

Parliamentary SecretaryMinistry of Culture, Community and Youth

Ministry of Social and Family DevelopmentMP for Chua Chu Kang GRC (Bukit Gombak)

Your home is a special place and we strive to make Bukit Gombak the estate you can call home with pride and joy.

In this brief report, you’ll see that, in the past few years, many improvements in Bukit Gombak have been made – from recreational facilities and upgraded lifts to new walkways and carparks.

Playgrounds, fitness corners and sports courts have been built or renewed; covered linkways and drop-off porches have been added; all this on top of the regular repainting and upgrading work done by the Town Council.

Meanwhile, HDB has completed the Lift Upgrading Programme at Block 373 and added three surface car parks in the year 2014. In addition, as part of the Tengah Natureway project, NParks has beautified the streets with flowering plants and shrubs.

Getting around Bukit Gombak is now easier than before. Launched in January this year, the free shuttle bus service from HillV2 links some 42,000 residents from Bukit Batok, Hume, Hillview and Pavilion areas to key nodes in Bukit Gombak, including the Bukit Gom-bak MRT Station. More services have been added to the popular City Direct Bus 653, giving you more conve-nience during peak hours.

Many of these improvements would not have been as successful without your feedback and participation. Thank you for being part of the efforts to make Bukit Gombak a better place.

In the next five years, you can look forward to even more good things from the Town Council and govern-ment agencies. The Council alone has planned for 25 estate improvement projects. The HDB plans to extend their Home Improvement Programme to 20 blocks, or about 2,000 flats in Bukit Gombak. Residents from Guilin (Blk 512 to 514 and Blk 535 to 542) and Hill-grove (Blk 501 to 511) will enjoy rejuvenated flats and a

We believe community action matters

The Fun Walkers @ SouthWest is one of the most popular community activities we have. Not only does it give you good, regular exercise, brisk-walking gives you a great opporltunity to get to know your neighbours and have a good chat.

We believe in celebrating ALL the Festivals. Not just the festivals that are part of our own religion and culture, but the festivals that are important to our neighbours and friends. We get to know one another better that way, and we have good times all through the year!

For Singapore to thrive – and for Bukit Gombak to be everything

you want – it’s important for us all to knit together as one community.

To help this happen, we have get-togethers, parties, dinners, outings and other events. We have organised sports leagues, clubs and interest groups.

If you live in Bukit Gombak, you have umpteen opportunities to get out and meet your neighbours, get to know them, work and play with them, help to build a stronger sense of community for all of us.

Come on. Join in.

Emergency Preparedness Day is an annual event organised by the constituency’s Community Emergency and Engagement Committee (C2E), the SCDF and Town Council to show neighbours what they can do in an emergency, and how to do it.

Our founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew decided that a clean and green Singapore would have an advantage and started planting trees in 1963. We continue the an-nual tradition of Tree Planting Day as a way to nurture a love and respect for the trees that keep us cool.

We’re growing our garden

We have great plans for the rail corridor. The interna-tional competition for design has closed and soon you will be able to give your feedback on the plans for the reuse of this wonderful 26 kilometre-long green path.

We are improving and adding Parks. Choa Chu Kang Park is the green heart of our Town. The park was re-cently expanded with new facilities such as innovative play areas for children. You’ll get to enjoy more new parks and leisure spaces soon.

We are improving connectivity and accessibility by adding more sheltered linkways that are directly connected to MRT and LRT stations, as well as bus stops. It’s part of LTA’s Walk2Ride programme and Bukit Gombak MRT station will be getting over 600 metres of sheltered linkways soon.

There will be major road improvements around Jalan Anak Bukit. A three-lane dual carriageway will link Jalan Jurong Kechil and Clementi Road and the Jalan Anak Bukit slip road to the PIE will be widened. Jalan Jurong Kechil between Toh Tuck and Upper Bukit Timah will get another lane, making three-lane in both directions.

We’re growing our garden

We are building a network of approximately 12.5km of new off-road cycling paths in our Town. It’s part of the plan to build over 700km of cycling paths island-wide by 2030. LTA plans to implement the Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Panjang sectors around the same time, targeting completion in 2018 .

Slated for completion this year, Hillview MRT station on the new Downtown Line will be a boon for all Hillview/Hume estate residents. It will be connected by a very long, 800m covered linkway that goes all the way to the bus stop outside the Lam Soon Industrial Building!

– and building better pathways through it!

Hillview MRT station, situated between Dairy Farm and Hillview roads, will be ready at the end of 2015. It is one of 12 train stops being built under Stage 2 of the Downtown Line, which will connect commuters to Little India, Rochor, Bugis, Chinatown and eventually even Geylang, besides the city.

There will be sheltered walkways within a 400 metre radius of the station. This is part of the national Walk2Ride programme, which aims to make the island a car-light one. Hillview MRT was given priority for this programme after MP Low Yen Ling had several discussions with the authorities and brought the issueup in Parliament earlier this year.

The existing Bukit Gombak MRT station was given priority to participate in the Walk2Ride programme, under which a sheltered walkway will be built to link the station to Goodview Gardens precinct (Blocks 383 to 395) and the Sunshine precinct (Blocks 523 to 525, Blocks 526 to 534, Blocks 371 to 376), as well as Guilin View and The Madeira condos.

A 400-metre-long, three-lane dual carriageway will be built between Jalan Jurong Kechil and Clementi Road to provide drivers from Toh Yi with an alternative route to the city. This will free up Jalan Anak Bukit for residents coming from Hillview Avenue and Hume Avenue.

The project also involves the widening of the Jalan Anak Bukit slip road to the PIE. The stretch of Jalan Jurong Kechil between Toh Tuck and Upper Bukit Timah roads will have an extra lane added, so there are three lanes in both directions.

The changes will also benefit those taking the bus, as services would be less affected by the traffic.

Drivers who travel Upper Bukit Timah Road will soon be able to bypass the peak-hour choke points along this major artery to the Kranji and Mandai industrial estates in the north with the help of two new flyovers.

The first one will run between The Rail Mall and Chestnut Drive, soaring over the Dairy Farm Road and Hillview Road junctions with Upper Bukit Timah Road.

The other will take off before Petir Road, allowing drivers to avoid the junction where Bukit Panjang Road and Choa Chu Kang Road meet Upper Bukit Timah Road.

Both roads will have three lanes running in both directions, and are due to be ready before 2016.

Our Chua Chu Kang GRC will have two new Community Clubs by the end of 2016. On Hillview Avenue, the four-storey Bukit Gombak club will be eco-friendly, with the roof and one side, covered in plants. Both clubs will be great places to get together for sports, learning, making friends, and fun.

The Home Improvement Programme (HIP) will be brought to all eligible blocks by 2020, including Sunshine Precinct’s Block 523-534 Bukit Batok St 51/52 and Block 371-376 Bukit Batok St 31. HIP helps you deal with the maintenance problems common to ageing flats. If your block is selected for it, you’ll be offered a range of free Essential Improvements – such as fixing spalling concrete and replacing pipes and laundry pole holders – and heavily sub-sidised Optional Improvements – such as new bathroom fixtures.

Solar power panels will be installed on the roofs of 40 blocks in our Town and HDB plans to install more. Re-cently HDB called tenders under EDB’s SolarNova Pro-gramme, which aims to have solar power contribute 350 MWp to Singapore’s system by 2020.

To encourage a greener lifestyle and give you more con-venience and security, we will install two-tier bicycle racks in all blocks that now have insufficient parking space for bicycles.

For your convenience and to meet the needs of working families, the National Environment Agency is going to build another Hawker Centre for our town. Its pro-posed location and completion date will be announced at a later date.

Automated External Defibrillators, or AEDs, will be in-stalled in every other block by the end of 2016. And for your security, the Police will install CCTV cameras in all HDB blocks and multi-storey carparks by 2017.
