    Worlds Largest Fertilizer Co-operative.

    Largest producer of fertilizers in the Country.

    Only Fertilizer Institution in the country to havesurpassed 70 lakhs MT per annum in terms ofproduction and 86 lakhs MT per annum inrespect of sales.

    Modest membership of 57 societies in 1967-68,

    39,456 societies at present. 158 Farmers Service Centers across the country.

    IIFCO has insured farmers interest by its generalinsurance company ITGI & ICPL.

    HISTORY

    Indian Farmers Fertilizer Co-operative Limited (IFFCO) wasregistered on November 3, 1967 as a Multi-unit Co-operativeSociety

    On the enactment of the Multistate Co-operative Society act1984 & 2002, the Society is deemed to be registered as aMultistate Co-operative Society

    The Society is primarily engaged in production and distributionof Fertilizers

    The number of Co-operative Societies associated with IFFCO

    have risen from 57 in 1967 to 39,456 at present.

    It was an unique venture in which the farmers of the countrythrough their own Co-operative Society created this newinstitution to safeguard their interests.

    IFFCO's mission is "to enable Indian farmers to prosper throughtimely supply of reliable, high quality agricultural inputs and services in anenvironmentally sustainable manner and to undertake other activitities toimprove their welfare

    BYELAWS

    The byelaws of IFFCO provide the framework within whichIFFCO as a Co-operative Society operates.

    The broad objective of IFFCO as enshrined in the byelaws are topromote the economic production / development of chemicalfertilizers, bio-fertilizers, petro-chemicals, industrial chemicals.

    To provide for manufacturing processing / conversion of farmproducts

    IFFCO's main thrust has been on production and distribution ofmineral Fertilizers in which it has carved out a niche for itself.

    The endeavors had always been to make the country self-sufficientin this crucial input for agriculture and ensure its timelyavailability to the farmers.

    ABOUT MANAGEMENT

    The cooperatives are running on the cardinal principle of being owned,controlled and used by the members.The existing Multi-state Cooperative SocietiesAct, 1984 and the

    Byelaws framed by the General Body of IFFCO form the main frame work toguide the IFFCO activities.IFFCO has a Representative General Body (RGB); which is a main policymaking body.The RGB consists of :

    -Members of the Board of Directors-Member Societies holding shares of the value of Rs 100 thousand andabove-Member-Societies having shares of lower denominations

    IFFCO Board of Directors, comprises of 30 Members.The Board of IFFCO consists of 12 representatives from the

    PLANTS OWNED BYIFFCO

    IFFCO has emerged as a cooperative in true spirit. IFFCO is now

    entirely owned by its cooperatives and has become a cooperative ofthe farmers, by the farmers and for the farmers.

    Initially, IFFCO commissioned an ammonia - urea complexat Kalol and the NPK/DAP plant at Kandla both in the stateofGujarat in 1975.

    Another ammonia - urea complex was set up at Phulpur in the stateofUttar Pradesh in 1981.

    The ammonia - urea unit at Aonla was commissioned in 1988.

    Recently, IFFCO has acquired an NPK/DAP and Phosphoric acidfertiliser unit at Paradeep in Orissa in September 2005.

    WORKING PROCESS

    The distribution of IFFCO's fertilizers isundertaken through over 39824 Co-operativeSocieties.

    IFFCO supplies its fertilizer material mostly

    through cooperative channel. However, the co-operative societies have no obligation topurchase from IFFCO.

    Ensure timely availability of reasonably pricedquality products right at the doorstep of the

    farmers through the nationwide co-operativenetwork.

    IFFCO's Farmers Service Centers (FSCs) arealso used as outlets for retail sale of Fertilizers.

    Co-operative Rural Development Trust (CORDET):

    It is promoted by IFFCO with a view to providing practical training to the farmers toimprove their skills in agricultural production, dairy, poultry, fisheries and professionalleadership at the village level.

    IFFCO and Airtel Join Hands to Usher in the Second Green Revolution

    Joint venture company IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Ltd. to provide big boost to Indianagriculture and rural economy. The joint venture company will harness the power of telecomto add value to the farm sector and empower the rural farmer by giving him access to vitalinformation, which will enhance his livelihood and quality of life.

    IFFCO Kisan Sewa Trust (IKST)

    IFFCO had always been in the forefront of activities for the rescue of victims ofnatural calamities, eg: The death and devastation caused by the massive Earthquake inGujarat, measuring 6.9 on Richter scale on Jan 26, 2001

    Extension & Education Programmes.IFFCO has devised various programmes for the benefit of the

    farmers by demonstrations on farmers fields, field days, farmers meetings, crop

    seminars, various agricultural campaign. Seed Multiplication Programme

    In order to supplement the availability of quality seeds to the farmers,IFFCO has been taking up the seed multiplication programme in various under thisprogramme were grown on fields.

    Seeding Programme:

    IFFCO started its seeding programme of marketing fertilizers throughcooperatives .The main objectives were to create brand identity, develop market for thefertilizers .

    Special ProjectsTo facilitate transfer of technology, certain special projects are launched in the

    areas of dry land agriculture, tribal/backward area development, land reclamation,biofertilisers, biopesticides plastic in agriculture.
