PowerPoint Presentation

Coaching Skills To Make You A Better Recruitment Leader

Amanda Davies

Coaching whats the deal?Non judgemental focuses on the whole personUnlocks more information Improves effectiveness and performanceIncreases awarenessFocuses on here and nowDistracts the inner dialogueImproves relationshipsDelivers results

Coaching focuses on here and now, whereas counselling looks back and mentoring focus on the future.Coaching asks how, counselling why and mentoring whatCoaching is about building competence and performanceThe term coaching means many different things to different people, but is generally about helping individuals to solve their OWN problems and improve their OWN performance.

2

Skill 1: Levels of ListeningLevel 1 me, me, me. Busy brain.Level 2 its all about youLevel 3 all about us (the global environment, the atmosphere in the room)

3

Skill 1: Levels of ListeningWhats really being said?Whats not being said?!Notice: Where do you go inside your own head?

4

Skill 2: Powerful Questions

Provocative, short Makes you stop and thinkSticks in the mindAsk what and who (not why?)

5

Sample Powerful QuestionsIf it was your choice, what would you change? What you led to this/ us?What else? What other possibilities are there? How else could this be handled? How could we make this fun?If you could wipe the slate clean, what would you do?What can you/ we learn from this?

Use these for colleagues, team members and clients/ prospects6

Skill 3: Being v Doing, doing, doing

We are all juggling multiple priorities and many tasks throughout the day. Thats what you are doing..

But who are you being? A parent, sibling, partner, manager, recruiter, supplier?? you have a task list as long as your arm but who are you BEING whilst you are DOING?We rarely get to just be.7

Skill 3: Being v Doing, doing, doingRelaxedPolishedMagnificent ProfessionalPlayful CaringWise Superhero Strategic Bad-a** Diva Entrepreneurial Strong Productive

Pick one that resonates and wear it for the rest of the day. Be Magnificent or Be Playful.. or Be Strong.

8

If the words dont land with you.. Try an image or role model. When youre going in to a difficult meeting or big review. Model your words and behaviours on a role model. 9

Skill 4: Championing

There is so much anger and criticism in the world, and not enough positivity! You have the power to champion your colleagues and team members, and even your clients.Be their cheerleader.Give powerful, authentic compliments and ditch the I think from the beginning. So instead of I think you are great with our clients (which is opinion). Say You are great with our clients. Much more powerful and comes from a place of fact. You are brilliant, you are delivering great results, you are awesome.. Etc etc.10

Skill 4: Championing

Just in case you need reminding ;-)11

Skill 5: The Challenge

Challenge your team to do more than you think is possible. Or ask for what makes you uncomfortable. If you feel its unachievable thats great, youre pushing them further.

Let them make a counter offer or negotiate, what they go on to deliver is usually more than you would expect.

Ask for Everest, if they had intentions of at the Ben Nevis level to start with, at least they might up their game and deliver Kilimanjaro! 12

Get Ready!

Pick a skill or two and practice, practice, practice. 13

@AmandaJDavies01Thanks!

14
