INTRODUCTION

• It can be called the Heart of Thermal Power Plant because it provided the fuel for combustion in boiler.

• The main coal sources for KSTPS are SECL , ECL & BCCL.

• Every day 3 to 4 trains of coal are unloaded at KSTPS.

• Each train consists of 58 Wagons.

• Each wagons consist of 50 tones of coal. The approximate cost of Rs. 2 Crores per day including transportation expenses.

• The whole transportation of coal is through conveyor belt operated by 3 Phase induction motors.

COAL HANDLING PLANT

• WAGON UNLOADING SYSTEM

• CRUSHING SYSTEM

• CONVEYING SYSTEM

Page 12: Coal Handling Plant

WAGON UNLOADING SYSTEM

• It unloads the coal from wagon to hopper.

• The hopper, which is made of iron, is in the form of net so that coal piece

of only equal to and less than 200 mm. Size pass through it.

• The bigger ones are broken by the workers with the help of hammers.

Page 13: Coal Handling Plant

CRUSHING SYSTEM

• Crusher House : it consists of crushers which are used to crush the coal to

20mm size.

• Types of crusher:

• 1 Primary Crusher: a. Roll crusher, b. Rotary breaker.

• 2. Secondary crusher: a. Ring granulators.

CONVEYING SYSTEM

• STACKER RECLAIMER

• CONVEYOR BELT SPECIFICATION

• FEEDERS

Page 15: Coal Handling Plant

STACKER RECALIMER

• The Stacker reclaimer unit can stack the material on to the pipe or reclaimed the stack field material and fed on to the main line conveyor.

• During reclaiming the material discharged on to the boom conveyor by the bucket fitted to the bucket wheel body and boom conveyor feeds the material on the main line conveyor running in reverse direction.

CONVEYOR BELT SPECIFICATION

• Belt width 1400mm

• Speed 2.2 m/second

• Schedule of motor all 3 phase induction motor

• Total installed power 360 KW

• Travel Motor 7.5 KW

• Conveyor Capacity 1350 Ton Per hour

• Horizontal Length 28 meter

FEEDERS

• This structure is erected to serve the purpose of storage.

• Underground machine are installed known as plow feeder machines.

• This machine collect the coal from conveyor and drop it to the other from

one conveyor with the help of Jaws and this coal is taken to hug erected

structure from where the coal falls to the ground.
