The Statue of Liberty was built in France– but there was no way to get her to the USA!
So they had to take her apart into 350 pieces and shipped all her pieces to the United States where they put her back together.

Auguste Bartholdi made her as a gift for the US to celebrate their freedom and to welcome the new people coming to America.

White House History
President George Washington started building the White House in 1792, but he never got to live in it. The first president to live in the White House was the 2nd president, John Adams.

Did you know that the White House has survived through 2 fires! The first one was by the British during the war of 1812, and the 2nd was while Herbert Hoover was president.
While they were fixing the house, President Truman had to live across the street in the Blair House. But the bricks on the outside of the house are still the very first ones from when it was first made.

Mount Rushmore National Memorial is in Custer State Park.
Lots of people come to visit the park and to see Mount
Rushmore every year.

A man named Doane Robinson came up with this HUGE idea and asked a sculptor, Gutzon Borglum, to help him build it.
Robinson wanted the statue to be of Indian leaders and American explorers, but Borglum imagined US presidents– And that’s the idea they stuck with!
So Gutzon Borglum started building. And he built from1927 all the way till
1941 when he died.
His son finished the project for his dad later that year in March

At first, Thomas Jefferson was supposed to be on the right side of George Washington, but
when they started carving they noticed that the rock was not good.
So they had to use dynamite to blow up Jefferson’s picture and move him to the other side of George Washington!

The Golden Gate Bridge was the BIGGEST suspension bridge until New York City built the Verrazano Narrows Bridge.

WHAT’S SO NEAT ABOUT THE GOLDEN GATE?
The bridge is a color called “International Orange,” –it’s not really gold. They picked this color because it blends into the environment.
The bridge's two towers are 746 feet-- making
them 191 feet taller than the Washington Monument!
The US Navy wanted to paint it black with yellow stripes to make sure that
a passing ship could see it!
