Flood
FL20180209BOL
This map illustrates satellite-detected standingwater over the Cochabamba department inBolivia, as of the 10 February 2018, followingheavy rainfalls that caused severe flooding in thearea. The analysis was conducted usingSentinel-1b and Radarsat-2 images as of 9, 10and 12 February 2018 respectively. UNITAR-UNOSAT identified in the analyzed area of theCochabamba Department around 1,300 Ha ofland that seem to be inundated, of which almost35%, 450 Ha, are in the province of Punata. It islikely that flood waters have been systematicallyunderestimated within built-up urban areasbecause of the special characteristics of thesatellite data used. This is a preliminary analysisand has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to UNITARUNOSAT.
