Codes and Conventions of Radio Drama

Radio dramas • Radio drama are not factual

• But can be based on a true story

• They include character that are played by actors

• They only use speech, sound, music and silence to create the visual

Speech •Speech help people recognize the characterisations of the characters

•A example of how you could determine age is by the words they use e.g. slang would show that it is a younger person speaking

•The classes would be stereotyped so much that it won’t be hard to work it out.

Music•Music is used to open the show

•Background music in a speech can give of different meanings

•welcome to night vale (skip to 3:28)

Sound•Sound is used to set the scene

•For example you would here trains which means the location is a train station.

•Or if the door closes you know some has left the room

•The way silence is used

•The Archers (skip to 1:10)

Editing•You can use editing for time

•It used to put sound effects in

•Also to put music in
