A well maintained teak deck is always noticed on board a

sailboat or motor yacht. However, due to effects of the en-

vironment and pollutants in the atmosphere, deck surfaces

and other exposed wood becomes dirty and unattractive.

This can be prevented by a timely application of COELAN

Boat Coating to cover all exposed wood surfaces. Any solid

wood, plywood or composite wood construction can be

protected.

High quality COELAN Boat Coating can be applied to boat

decks, spars, hatch covers, railings and many other above

the waterline surfaces. Simply sand the working surface

with #80 grade sandpaper, vacuum thoroughly and apply

a coat of the appropriate COELAN Boat Primer. This is fol-

lowed by several layers of our polyurethane based liquid

polymer coating until a minimum finished coating thick-

ness of 1 mm. / 0.04 in. is achieved.The restored deck or wood surfaces will not only look new

but be protected f rom the elements for many years with

little if any touch up required. Upon the laying of new

teak decks, an immediate application of COELAN Boat

Coating is always highly recommended.

By the combining of COELAN Boat Coat ing wi th

EPDM granules a textured and very long wearing

deck surface can be created. The mixture is applied

by use of a spatula and when desired a deck plank

like appearance can be created. The finished surface

is not only long w earing but skid proof and extremely

weather resistant.

It is generally understood that dinghies and boating fenders are not resis-

tant to oil, fuel, solvent and UV light. This can lead to an undesirable ap-

pearance and costl y breakdown of the rubber material.

Inflatable dinghies are often carried on davits or secured on deck.

As a result the exposed rubber or fabric surf ace is subject to damage

caused by the combined effects of the environment, UV light, sand and ab-

rasion f rom t ie downs and the deck.

The application of COELAN Boat Coating to fully inflated dinghies and

fenders not only restores the colour or appearance of the rubber surface

but provides extended service life due to the coatings high elasticity (over

300%) and abrasion resistance.

EENDRACHT

The current SV Eendracht was launched as a three masted schooner in 1989 with the expressed purpose ofmaking long distance ocean sailing adventures available fo r everyone; in part icular the young. This is the se-

cond training vessel named Eendracht as the original was launched in 1974 in a two masted configuration.

The original ship had sailed in excess of 260,000 naut ical mi les over a 15 year period at the t ime of her re-

placement. The SV: Eendracht sails under the patronage of The Dutch Tall Ship Sailing Foundation.

Since 2003 wi th it s home port in Rot terdam the 510 ton, 59 meter long, three masted Eendracht is an impres-

sive and powerful site when under full sail. On board there are accommodations fo r 56 people wit h a quali-

fied full time crew of 13. The Eendracht is available for private charter as well as being a sailing school trai-

ning ship. Every year more than 1000 passengers experience the excit ement of open ocean sailing on board

Eendracht.

Due to these high passenger traff ic loads and the long term effects of the weather and ocean environment , it

was evident that a refurbishment and application of a durable surface protection was needed. A decision was

made in 1996 to apply COELAN Boat Coat ing on all appropriate surf aces. By doing so t he Eendracht not only

presents a renewed and seaworthy appearance but achieves durable protection from the day to day conse-

quences of working t he ship and long t erm effects of the weather.

The training ship SV DEUTSCHLAND.

Today, the sail training ship Deutschland is the only remaining fully rigged sailing ship representing the ma-

ritime history of Germany. Between 1927 and 1939 the training ship Deutschland completed numerous long

distance voyages including 17 open ocean t raining passages. The Deutschland can be f ound in i ts home port

of Bremen Vegesack w here it is open to visit ors and is available for charter and special occasion functions.

Given the high volume of visitors and the 70 year age of this tall ship there has been noticeable wear and

stress on t he Oregon pine deck and other t eak w ood components. In order t o provide a durable and protec-

ti ve covering that w ould stand up t o t he effects of wear and tear f rom t he visitors and the marine environ-

ment , it was decided by t he ships managing director, Mr. W. Domin ik, and the ships master, Mr. I. Mueller-Fell-

mett , to refurbish t he vessel w it h COELAN Boat Coat ing. This was accompl ished in 1999 and at the same t ime

the many brass fittings were thoroughly polished and also coated with COELAN Boat Coating to prevent the

tarnishing of those metal part s.

Since that t ime the training ship continues to be the center of att raction not only because of it s signif icant

marit ime history but also due the visually p leasing eff ect of the COELAN application. This very special ship

cont inues to draw large crow ds and the SV Deutschland remains a must see for all of those who are fr iends oftall ships
