LUDVIG VAN BEETHOVEN

THE COMPOSER

Beethoven (1770–1827) was a German composer and pianist, and one of the most famous and influential

composers in classical music. Beethoven rose at dawn and wasted little time getting down to work. His breakfast was coffee, which he prepared himself with great care–he determined that there should be sixty beans per cup, and he often counted them out one by one for a precise dose. But one was not enough and he did not stop at breakfast. Actually Beethoven was drinking dozens of cups of coffee

a day and allegedly 50 cups of tea.

JONY IVE

THE DESIGNER

Jony Ive and his elite design team at Apple are coffee snobs. And rightfully so. Great coffee is great ideas. Like everything Apple’s designers do, their coffee ritual is very precise. They have honed their technique to a science, adjusting the beans, the grind, the

grain, and the pour to perfection. The resulting beverage boosts the team’s creativity to the max. Not to mention they trust the

good old Italian espresso methods. They have all it takes to make one and it is the state-of-art machinery. The roaster that regularly

delivers 5 lb. bags of coffee to the studio, the grinder to grind beans to perfection and the High-End Espresso Machine.

THE DIRECTOR

One David Lynch character from the famous Twin Peaks – agent Cooper made coffee famous. His love

for coffee should not come as a surprise as the director himself is a bit of a coffee fanatic. As it turns out David Lynch drinks from ten up to twenty coffees

a day. He says the secret is to stop at 5:30 p.m. He has a favourite personal roast, which is smooth and rich, with subtle undertones of surreal nightmares.

THE WRITER

Angelou was never been able to write at home. As she explained in an interview she “tires to keep

home very pretty and I can’t work in a pretty surrounding. It throws me.” So she always worked in

hotel or motel rooms. She would get up at about 5:30, and she was ready to have coffee by 6, usually

with her husband.

CHRISTOPHER THOMAS

THE ATHLETE

Despite considerable research in this area, the role of caffeine as a performance enhancing drug is still not

100% clear but one thing is for sure – coffee can enhance performance and definitely can help you burn

calories. It isn’t strange then that athletes like Christopher Thomas (USAT Amateur Triathlete of the

Year, 2012) like their coffee first thing in the morning. He usually takes one or two black ones. As he says he

appreciates the most warmth and caffeine kick.

SØREN KIERKEGAARD

THE PHILOSOPHER

www.1882.com.au

Soren Kierkegaard’s routine included three things – writing, walking, and lots of coffee. Kierkegaard had his own quite peculiar way of having coffee: Delightedly he seized hold of the bag containing the sugar and poured sugar into the coffee cup until it was piled above the rim.

Next came the incredibly strong, black coffee, which slowly dissolved the white pyramid.
