There are two separate channels (visual and auditory)
There is limited channel capacity Learning is an active processing

Theory also discusses three memory stores:
1. Sensory- Stores information for a short period
2. Working- Actively process information
3. Long-term- All learned information is stored
What does this theory mean for teachers?
Multimedia presentations is the most efficient way to teach.
Examples: PowerPoint, diagrams, websites, videos, etc.
What does this theory mean for students?
Take into consideration what will help students retain learned information in their long-term memory
Make sure both channels of visual and auditory are used when teaching
Make the information relatable to students
As a future teacher, Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning is an important theory to keep in mind. What kind of visual aids will I use? Will the students relate? Am I utilizing both channels for students to process information?
