The new year offers us so many opportunities for new beginnings and new horizons. Along with our new years resolutions, it is my hope that we can continue to build upon the good work we put in during 2016 and add one or two initiatives to maintain student achievement. On a more practical note, the weather remains cold and wet, so please ensure that your child has gloves, an appropriate coat and a hat to come to school. We are aware of the current temperature levels, but normally, unless the temperature drops to –15c with the wind chill, the students will go out- side...we are Canadian after all! We are noticing a spike in late pick ups after school and I would ask that parents and guardians are here promptly at 3:00pm. Students cannot be adequately supervised after this time and it rapidly becomes a safety issue. Equally, I have been asked by the bus company to ensure parents do not park in the bus zone at the end of the day and in the morning. Again, safety is an issue here and we need to work together to move forward and ensure the safety of our students. D. Do not be afraid I am with you.

We invite families with children born in 2013 to register for Junior Kin-dergarten beginning Wednesday, January 18th, 2017 at 10 a.m..

Dear Parent/Guardian, Welcome back to the new year at St. Thomas More! We are aware of the current temperature levels, but normally, unless the temperature drops to –15c with the wind chill, the students will go out-side...we are Canadian after all! We are noticing a spike in late pick ups after school and I would ask that parents and guardians are here promptly at 3:00pm. Just an update to some of the items I have spoken about regarding the safety of students

at the end of the day.

We have noticed that some cars are travelling at a high rate of speed in the “kiss and Ride” area. Please keep an eye on your speed if you are in or around the school. Especially during breakfast club time!

The bus drivers have asked me to remind driv-ers not to park in the “no parking zones”. This includes the bus lane, but also near the black fence at the entrance to the car park. Their worry is they may hit one of the cars as it is a relatively tight turn for the larger buses.

Please remember, students lose their sense of safety once the bell has rung. Drivers please be overly cautious around areas where the side-walk ends and the road begins. If you are parked and are picking up your child, please be aware they may dart across the road to meet you.

As ever, we remain vigilant, but appreciate your

diligence, support and reinforcement!

Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school @ (416) 393 5322.

Canada has declared January as Tamil Heritage Month. Best wishes to everyone

connected with this amazing heritage!

Another amazing fundraising season from our Me to We/Social Justice committee! As a result of the raffle, reindeer games and Santa’s workshop, our students raised $1994.20 that will go to providing medical care for villages in the Raja-sthan region of India through We Movement and We Villag-es. This is an amazing achievement and will positively affect hundreds of people who would otherwise struggle to access affordable and reliable health care. Great job St. Thomas More community!!!
