A home isn’t just something that shelters you. It isn’t just planks of wood, screws, bolts, plaster, brick and tile. A home is a virtual photo

album, each room being its own section of the book, being able to hold and bring back memories.

If you and I both looked at my weight room we both would be seeing two different rooms. You would see the stair master/bench machine

squeezed awkwardly in the corner, a treadmill parallel to it in the other corner, a set of dumbbells, and that weird bike thing that pedals butremains still. To me I see all of that, and my seven year old self having the time of his life, driving a bike-shaped space ship, commanding

his own gym equipment fleet.

My living room holds memorable Christmas mornings of my sister and me bragging on who got the biggest presents. And rainy weeknights

of my family and me laughing, criticizing, and having the look of awe on our faces while watching our favorite TV shows: “Survivor” and

“American Idol.” My kitchen where delicious food my mother used to make (and still being made to this very day) ranges from simple but

tasty home made blueberry pancakes to rich and irresistible Beef Wellington. The dinning room looks like a place where Vikings would feast

with its long wooden table in the middle of the warm colored room. This room holds all the snap shot memories of me growing up. I see

the vanilla, chocolate, fruit filled and three-layered cakes get another candle pushed into their sugary surface birthday after birthday. I seethe traditional birthday chair shrink as I grow from the toddler, who needed to stand on the chair in order to blow out the candles, to the

man who can blow out the candles in half a breath and eat the whole cake by himself.

The feelings I get when I step into my home are extremely hard to feel anywhere else. The walls make me feel safe and worry free by giving

me my privacy, and protecting my family and me when we are at our most vulnerable. Each room makes me feel loved and optimistic about

life because of all the recent and old pictures of my parents embracing and smiling with my sister and me in the humid forests of California

or next to a stinky sulfur pool in Yellowstone National Park. Every time I see those photos, I am reminded of how lucky I am to have such

loving, wise, and selfless parents. Without my family there would be no memories, and without those two my home would just be nothing

more then a house. I am grateful for my family, the memories, and the house that I am proud to call my home.
