COLE FAMILY NEWSLETTER June 2013 HAPPY SUMMER, COLE FAMILY! We hope you are making plans to attend the 79th Cole Family Reunion on Sunday, August 11, in Boonville, Missouri at Harley Park, Shelter House #2. We had a lovely day last year with great weather! Family members gathered to visit and enjoy a noon potluck. Games of chess and yard games were played by all ages.
On Saturday evening before the picnic, a small group gathered at Hannah’s statue and then walked a block to Cooper’s Oak Winery. We had a wonderful time eating and visiting. We plan to repeat the event again this year at 6:15 p.m. Cooper’s have moved their business two doors to the north so they are even closer to Hannah’s statue in the Morgan Street Park!
Wreath Laying: The Hannah Cole Chapter of DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), placed a wreath at the statue of Hannah at the Morgan Street Park on June 1 this year. Angelene Fountain, a member of the Hannah Cole Chapter of DAR has placed a wreath at the site of Hannah's burial at Briscoe Cemetery for over 30 years. This year, she placed a wreath at the statue. Mid Missouri has had a lot of rain and the cemetery grounds were pretty soft and muddy. Several members of the Cole Family were in attendance also. Preceding the wreath placement, the Hannah Cole Chapter held their meeting and luncheon at the state DAR house, Roslyn Heights. We all thank the chapter for continuing to remember our ancestor! Pictured left to right: Angie Fountain, Norma Johnson, DAR Chapter Regent, and Pat Todd, Immediate Past President of Cole Family Association.
Scholarship: A $250 scholarship was available this year but the committee did not have any applicants. The Scholarship committee consists of: Kim Dickerson, chair, Courtney Cole, Laura Beth Cooper, Missy Walker, and Judy Cole.
Cole Family History and Genealogy Book – Message from Maude Miller: Aloha all! Hope everyone is having a fantastic year. This year has been an exciting one for those that ordered and paid for a Cole Family History and Genealogy Book. They were finally printed and shipped. I hope that everyone that received one is enjoying all of the information and the new layout of the book. 55 books were ordered and 55 were shipped out so I am sorry to tell you all that I do not have any more for purchase. I am making a list of people that want the book to see if I will be able to have a reprint of the book. Since I did not get enough orders last time to break even, I am looking for an order of at least 60 books so that I do not go in the red again on the books. IF I DO NOT GET THIS NUMBER I WILL NOT ORDER ANY MORE PRINTED BOOKS. The demand for this book was not high at all for the printed or the digital versions. The CD’s are available at any time if you would still like one the cost is $50 plus $10 for shipping and handling for a total of $60. Please contact me, Maude Miller either via e-‐mail ([email protected]) or by phone, remember the time difference (5 hours earlier in Hawaii), from Missouri to Hawaii, when calling (808) 342-‐3386 and this is my cell phone so if you would rather text me that is fine too. The order form is attached to this e-‐mail/newsletter and it can be filled in and then returned via e-‐mail to me (Maude Miller). ALL ORDERS HAVE TO GO THROUGH ME (MAUDE MILLER).

The Directors discussed the book at their meeting last year and decided to offer the Family the opportunity to donate a book to places they feel should have one -‐ libraries in particular. Since the price of the book -‐ $120, including shipping -‐ is prohibitive for the association to just give the books away, a family member might want to give a book to their place of interest in honor of another family member. For example: Carolyn Cole Eichelberger, purchased an extra book to be presented to the Boonslick Regional Library in Boonville. Marianne Cole Fues has a book to be presented to the State Historical Society of Missouri. In the past, the family also placed copies of our genealogy at the Library of Congress and the Mormon Church Genealogy so reserve a copy with Maude to complete the contributions of our family history. Briscoe Cemetery: The cemetery continues to be mowed by Jim Huckabay. This has been a wet spring so the mowing has been on a more frequent basis. He has to contend with downed tree limbs from time to time. Also, several trees seem to be dead now and will need to be removed -‐ a topic for the officers and directors to discuss at their next meeting. Also of great interest is the work of our volunteer, Ron Vollmer. He is cleaning and repairing stones and making bases to go under them. He has begun working on the stones and we should have an updated report by reunion time. Website: John Sage, of Reading, MA continues as our family webmaster. The genealogy book information is on the web site along with an order form which you can print out and send to Maude. He also has a page for digital photographs so send your digital photos to John and he will place them on the web site. We all love to see pictures of kin folks and this is the perfect opportunity to do that. John's contact information is: [email protected] Friends of Historic Boonville: The Friends keep the archives and mementoes of the family and try to work with us when they can, to be open when we have the reunion or something special. They take time to put out a special display of Cole Family mementoes the weekend of our reunion otherwise the family history information is kept as a private contribution. If you would like to contact the Friends office call or write them at, P.O. Box 1776, 614 East Morgan Street, Boonville, MO 65233 (660) 882-‐7977, or email them at [email protected]. →On Saturday evening, August 10, several relatives are meeting at Hannah's statue in the Morgan Street Park at 6:15 p.m. Come and join us! After visiting with Hannah for a few minutes, we are making our way to Cooper's Oak Winery, about a block south. They have a varied menu from sandwiches, soup and desserts to various libations, both alcoholic and non-‐alcoholic, with lots of space to visit until 8:00 p.m. so come and visit! →Reunion Day: August 11, 2013 in Boonville MO., Harley Park, Shelter House #2. Registration starts at 11:15 a.m. with the carry-‐in basket dinner at noon. Drinks, plates, and cutlery are provided. As you make your preparations for coming to the reunion, consider spending the weekend in the area. Here are four places to contact in Boonville: Hotel Frederick, 888-‐437-‐2231; Isle of Capri Casino Hotel, 800-‐941-‐4753; Holiday Inn Express, 660-‐882-‐6882; and Comfort Inn, 660-‐882-‐5317. Also nearby Columbia has accommodations as well as Rocheport with bed and breakfast facilities available. There are area attractions such as the Friends of Boonville museum with our Cole history items; Katy Trail State Park; Isle of Capri Casino; Warm Springs Ranch, home of the Budweiser Clydesdales; Les Bourgeois Vineyards; Briscoe Cemetery, where Hannah is buried; Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre … to name a few! You can research the area on the Internet. If access is an issue, please go to your local public library where access is available.
Remember to: →Consider donating to the scholarship fund in honor of an individual (for birthdays, anniversaries, graduation, etc.) or in memoriam. →Consider donating to the cemetery fund (mowing and maintenance are continual expenses) and the general fund.
