4. Reflection “A house should not be just a shelter. The human, as a complex being, requires developing itself inside an integral environment. The space and its services are needed for the development of the individuality and personality. The call is to establish some real but fare minimum standards to gain access to a decent house.” Anegelica A.

Alba RocíoAbella’s family “Mi name is Alba RocioAbella, I am 32 years old, I was born in Aquitan (Boyaca) but I lived in Casanare since I was

9 months old and I grew up there. I left Casanare when I was 21 trying to search for better opportunities. I didn’t get to school due to lack of economic resources, reason why I read and write very poorly. For 10 years I’ve

been living with the father of my kids, Guillermo Ramirez – 34 years old. He was born in Viota, Cundinamarca. He did just 3 years of primary school and then he had to start working to bring some

money to his home. Currently, he works washing cars with a very low income...money to his home. Currently, he works washing cars with a very low income...

“Now, I live in a pretty house and I am very happy. The goal is making it prettier than it is now. I thank God for the people that do their small part to help, I am really happy and wish God bless them. My life improved a lot. Before, we slept all in just one room, now mykids have their own bedroom, each has one bedroom.

Now, I have time to cook and I feel happy to have different spaces in my home.”

Project Improving Habitat Ciudadela Sucre, Soacha

1. We are changing a whole world of Life Histories. During May, June and July we made progress working in favour of families from the Comuna 4 in Ciudadela Sucre, Soacha. A neighbourhood located just a few minutes from Bogota. This population has struggled with poverty and exclusion for several decades. They are more than five thousands in this community, and around a thousand of them are assisted by the services from the Hospitable Order San Juan de Dios. This order works committedly in improving services from the Hospitable Order San Juan de Dios. This order works committedly in improving the quality of life of families from the area.

In 2010, with the objective of expanding the work delivered and the impact generated by this religious order, Habitat for the Humanity Colombia joined them in a cooperative alliance. The goal was to serve around hundred members of that community through a housing program, training in financial processes and healthy housing. That contributed to reach the number of 21 served families, from whom 20 had been benefitted with improvements in kitchens, bathrooms and front facades. In addition, one family was provided with a new house. and front facades. In addition, one family was provided with a new house.
