Coleen Barnhardt, Professional Longarm Quilter and Educator 2015 Class Offering: Coleen’s Coloring Quilts - Textile Painting Tips & Techniques Description: Coleen shares her tips and techniques for painting your own mini coloring quilt with textile paints. She'll share the techniques she uses on her own #coloringquilts for color blending, paint application, shading and layering. She'll also present strategies for dealing with "oopsies" and how to heat set the finished quilt so it can be machine washable. Students will learn to feel confident about using textile paints to color their own fabric and quilted projects. Coleen has over 30 years painting experience and has a lot of tips and techniques to share with you so that you can get the best results. Supply List: Available for Purchase at Class/LQS: #Coloringquilt Class Kit $45 Includes: *Coloring Quilt - 9X18” Doodle Style Coloring Quilt (prequilted using Dye Ready Fabric and Double Batting of Warm and Natural Soft and Bright Poly and Hobbs 80/20. Backing of quilter's quality muslin. No two mini coloring quilt are exactly the same!) *Jacquard Textile Color Exciter Pack - 9 colors of textile paints Bring to Class: Paint brushes - I recommend artist quality acrylic paintbrushes. One small round brush and one small flat brush. I use a Princeton Series 6100 Synthetic Bristle Round Size 2/0 and a Blick Scholastic Wonder White Filbert Size 8 (Both available from Blicks Art Supply). A smaller sized more rigid synthetic brush is important for the techniques outlined in this class. Water container for brushes Paper Towel(s) Paint Tray - I use a metal watercolor paint tray, but you can also purchase plastic and porcelain paint trays (or even use a plastic/styrofoam egg carton.)
