Theatre in the Classroom

Facilitators: Liza Kramer & Darold Ross Mishra Room

Description: This workshop will both explain and demonstrate how acting techniques can be used in the

classroom. Prof. Ross uses his expertise in acting and directing in his Theater Arts classes, and has also

brought those skills to 2-hour acting “workshops” in Prof. Kramer’s English 1B classes, where students learn

what it takes to “translate” the written version of a play into performance. If you teach a class in which

drama is or could be on the syllabus, come see how to bring that work alive for our students, many of whom

have had very little exposure to live theater.

Participants will be able to:

Get a direct experience—as well as thoughtful explanations--of how and why theatrical techniques

can enrich learning at EVC

Acquire techniques that can improve students’ public speaking skills in the classroom and beyond

Broaden college community’s appreciation of and involvement in theatrical culture, and to encourage

use of our campus theater, which is a state-of-the-art facility
