What is Total Worker Health? • A growing body of science supports workplace interventions

that integrate health protection and health promotion programs.

• Total Worker Health™ is a comprehensive organizational strategy that integrates occupational safety and health protection with health promotion to prevent worker illness and injury and advance well being.

• The 24/7 approach addresses injury prevention in the health promotion program and health promotion in the safety program; it integrates the effort across the company.

Edington, Burton. A Practical Approach to Occupational and Environmental Medicine 140-152. 2003.

Workers’ Comp 9%

Absenteeism 6%

Health Care 25%

Presenteeism 60%

The cost of doing nothing

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Charis Describe the disconnect: Of the total amount of money that is lost because of poor employee health, what makes up the main sources (Source: Eddington, Burton. A Practical Approach to Occupational and Environmental Medicine 140-152. 2003.) Presenteeism 60% Health Care Costs 25% Workers comp 9% Absenteeism 6% Bottom Line: increased HR = increased chronic disease = increased expenses Our strategies hit the system upstream….working to decrease health risks

Workers' Comp Mod

Workers’ compensation measures

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Laura Started both these programs (two different committees) around the same time and both programs have seen progress. We’re realizing more and more where wellness and safety ran side by side (health plans working on wellness side and workers comp working on the safety side) and very little needs to be done to link them together b/c all the elements are already there. If we don’t design a campaign, we still have learning b/c we already have two developed programs.
