SURVEY OF SCHOOLS: ICT IN EDUCATIONBenchmarking access, use and attitudes to technology

in Europe’s schools

Detailed review on ICT use in schools: Carried out in 2012 190,000 responses 27 European countries

Students use ICT most frequently during lessons when they are taught by digitally confident and supportive teachers, regardless of equipment levels.

Students use ICT for learning more outside than inside school.Around 70% of students are taught by teachers who have

learnt about ICT in their own time. Most teachers still use ICT first and foremost to prepare their

teaching and fewer use technology with students in lessonsThere are on average over 100 students per IWBLow use of digital resources: more that 50 % of students at all

grades never (almost never) use such resources

SURVEY OF SCHOOLS– MAIN FINDINGS:

Page 6: Collaboration and Exchange in technology enabled education

Strenghtening public action – building capacity for ICT pedagogical expertise at school level - professional development opportunities for teachers

Pedagogical support for teachersProfessional collaboration among teachers

COLLABORATION VIA ICT - CONTENT EXCHANGE • Learning Resource Exchange (LRE): federation of

resource repositories • more than 50 different content providers• more that 200,000 OERs• over 30 languages

• Scientix repository: Resources in STEM education • 200 STEM projects• ~ 1,100 resources• Common core: inquiry based learning and the

use of ICT in education

Global excursionExtended Curriculum for Science Infrastructure Online

• Provide access to e-Infrastructures and selected labs & resources• Create teaching use cases, pedagogical & technical artefacts

Rich media mash-up: • text, images, videos, • remote access elements: cameras, sensors,

controlers

Go-Lab Global Online Science Labs – Inquiry Learning at School19 partners, among which European Space Agency or CERN

• Access to remote and virtual labs for schools• Access to research data and archives• Structured learning environment based on

inquiry• Focus on pedagogical framework – IBSE• Integration into school curricula
