General InformationAll Rooms

• Classroom schedules, Feedback forms, Photo Gallery, Resources, CLS Guide, Furniture layouts, links to WELCOME videos and other useful information is available on the CLS website.

• Instructors – • At the beginning of the semester, please show or ask your students to watch the

WELCOME video for your room. (Links are available on the Resources page on the CLS website as well as the Desktop on the computers in the classrooms.)

• Reinforce the messages in the WELCOME video throughout the semester.• Please add the link to the CLS Feedback Survey to your D2L site. • Please plan to administer the CLS Program Evaluation Survey in Week 8.

• No food or drinks (except water) are allowed in the rooms, with the exception of SEL Rm 200S.

• Table numbers (1-50) are available for SEL Rm 200S and BSW Rm 301. Please collect the numbers at the end of class unless arrangements are made with the instructor for subsequent class.

• All TAs and preceptors are encouraged to wear the CLS t-shirts during class. Shirts will be distributed during the CLS Workshop Part II. If unable to attend, please contact Jane Hunter to arrange to pick-up shirts.

SEL Rm 200SFurniture and Power

Furniture and Power:

• The room capacity is 264 students.

• The room has 36 round, two-part tables on wheels which seat six students. In addition, the room has sixteen rectangular high-top tables that seat three students. Generally, the furniture arrangement will not change for classes. The furniture arrangement can be found on the CLS website and is shown on the following page.

• Three tables have adjustable height legs for accessibility purposes.

• The room has 216 standard-height chairs with wheels and 48 counter-height chairs with wheels as well as many chairs around the perimeter for classroom staff.

• The room is equipped with an under-carpet power system called Thread by Steelcase. The outlets in the floor are non-standard. Only components of the Thread power system can be plugged into the floor outlets.

• Encourage students to place their backpacks and other personal items out of the walkways so that the instructors, TAs and preceptors can move around the room without the risk of tripping.

SEL Rm 200STechnology - Visual

Visual:

• SEL Rm 200S has a control panel in the equipment rack. The following page shows a diagram of the panel and instructions for use.

• The room is equipped with twenty 48” monitors mounted on the pillars, four 70” monitors mounted on the north and south walls and six short-throw projectors on the east and west walls.

• A single source is displayed on all monitors and projectors to ensure that all students can see all of the presentation materials.

• A video camera is mounted on the ceiling so that a live feed of the instructor or anyone in the camera view area can be projected to the monitors and projectors. The camera view area is located approximately in the center of the room.

• The sources in SEL Rm 200S are: desktop computer, external computer (VGA or HDMI), BLU-RAY player, document camera and camera.

• An iPad with Doceri is available in the room. Doceri allows you to control the desktop computer from the iPad. See the Doceri section for more info.

Note: If you intend to address the entire class, do not use the laser pointer or whiteboards (without projection).

SEL Rm 200STechnology - Audio

Audio - Microphones:

• The instructor microphone is lapel-style. The output from the instructor microphone goes to speakers around the entire room.

• Sixteen portable, touch-to-talk microphones (ClearOne Gooseneck Microphone) are distributed around the room for students to use.

• To speak into the microphone press and HOLD the button. • Each microphone is shared by approximately three tables. • Use of microphones should be managed. TAs and preceptors can be assigned to

zones to handle a pre-determined number of microphones.• Students should not speak into the microphones until asked to do so by an

instructor, TA or preceptor.

• In addition, three handheld microphones are available in the equipment drawer.

• Spare batteries for the lapel and handheld microphones are available in the drawer in the equipment rack.

• The library staff is responsible for recharging the ClearOne microphones.

SEL Rm 200STechnology - Audio

Audio - Laptops:

• When attaching a laptop via the VGA cable, you will need to insert the mini-plug in the audio jack on your laptop.

• When attaching a laptop via the HDMI cable, do not insert the mini-plug in the audio jack on the laptop. You may need to change the device configuration on your laptop when audio is needed.

DoceriSEL Rm 200S

Doceri:

• Doceri is an application that allows you to control the desktop computer from an iPad or other mobile device.

• An iPad is available for all instructors who teach in SEL Rm 200S.

• Doceri is a very intuitive application. However, it is best to practice with the application before classes begin.

• Help documents and How-To videos are available on the Support menu at www.Doceri.com.

• Doceri Training (online) is available for a limited time. Contact Jane Hunter for more information.

• Contact the CLS team to arrange one-on-one sessions.

DoceriSEL Rm 200S

Using Doceri:

• Login to the desktop computer with your NetID and password. Double-click the Doceri Desktop icon and accept the software license agreement.

• When requested, enter a simple password (e.g. 1234) which will be valid for your current session only.

• Right click the Doceri icon on the lower right of the task bar and select Settings. On the Advanced tab, uncheck “Use SSL” and close the window.

• Turn on the iPad, start the Doceri app.

• When requested on the iPad, enter the simple password you created for Doceri on the desktop.

• If given a choice, select “through a computer”.

• On the screen titled Select a Doceri Desktop, choose one of the “Remembered” items (CTS-SCI LIB-200A) with an eleven digit IP Address under the name.

• Your session will begin.

• When finished, end the session on the iPad and close the application on the desktop.

BSW Rm 301Furniture

Furniture:

• The room capacity is 112 students.

• The room has 56 two-person tables. Each table has two legs with wheels and two legs with glides. When moving furniture, lift the table on the side with glides.

• Four tables have adjustable height legs for accessibility purposes. These tables do not have wheels. Generally, these tables should be placed near the room entrance.

• The room has 120 chairs. The chairs have a 5-start base with wheels. The chair height is adjustable. Chair arms are designed for students to hang their backpacks.

• Instructors (and their students) may rearrange the furniture to meet theirs needs. The room arrangement options are available on the CLS website and the Desktop on the classroom computer.

• Instructors should always return the furniture to the Standard Arrangement shown on the following page for then next class.

BSW Rm 301Power

Power:

• The room is equipped with an under-carpet power system called Thread by Steelcase.

• The outlets in the floor are non-standard. Only components of the Thread power system can be plugged into the floor outlets.

• in addition, the room has many outlets around the perimeter.

• Please use caution when rearranging furniture to avoid stepping on or bumping into the components of the power system.

BSW Rm 301Technology - Visual

Visual:

• BSW Rm 301 has a touch panel monitor to control the equipment. The following pages include a screenshot of the touch panel and instructions.

• The room is equipped with seven projectors and screens: three on the south wall, two on the north wall, one on the east wall and one on the west wall.

• Two different sources can be displayed at one time. The two sets are: Set 1 - center of south wall, east wall and west wall, and SET 2 - two ends of south wall and two on north wall.

• The sources in SEL Rm 200S are: desktop computer, extended desktop, external computer (VGA or HDMI), Blu-Ray player and document camera.

• An iPad with Doceri is available in the room. Doceri allows you to control the desktop computer from the iPad. See the Doceri section for more info.

• Press the touch panel screen to wake it up – this may take several seconds.

• To turn on all projectors press On. To control individual projectors, press proj power on the Pop Ups menu.

• To display a single source on all projectors, select the source. The most frequently used sources are:

Computer monitor 1… desktop computerComputer monitor 2… extended desktop on the touch panel (see below)Portable computer…… laptop connected to the VGA cableHDMI……………………… laptop connected to the HDMI cableDocument camera…… document camera

• To display two sources on two different sets of screens:• Select 2 images on the Pop Ups menu. The options for the first set of projectors will be

displayed. Select the source that you want for the first set of projectors. The options for the second set will then be displayed. Select the source for the second set of projectors. If you wish to revert to a single source, select the same source for both Sets of projectors.

• The touch panel acts as an extended desktop and is designated Computer monitor 2. For example, when you go into Slide Show mode in PowerPoint, the full screen slide show will display on the touch panel. Therefore, to display the slide show on the screens, select Computer monitor 2 as the source. You will then be able to open a different application on the main monitor, which, if desired, can be displayed on the 2nd set of projectors/screens.

• A separate set of speakers is used for the output from the other sources such as the computers and DVD player.

• Spare batteries are available in the equipment drawer.

Note: The volume of the source is often controlled on the device (e.g. computer) and on the touch screen. Be sure to adjust the volume on both.

Doceri:

• Doceri is an application that allows you to control the desktop computer from an iPad or other mobile device.

• An iPad is available for all instructors who teach in SEL Rm 200S and BSW Rm 301. Each instructor will be issued a key for the drawer in the equipment rack and is responsible to ensure that the iPad is transferred to another faculty member or locked in the drawer at all times.

• Doceri is a very intuitive application. However, it is best to practice with the application before classes begin.

• Help documents and How-To videos are available on the Support menu at www.Doceri.com.

• Doceri Training (online) is available. Contact Jane Hunter for more information.

• Contact the CLS team to arrange one-on-one sessions.

Furniture and Power:

• The room capacity for both rooms is 60 students.

• The rooms has 30 two-person tables. Generally, the furniture arrangement will not change. The standard furniture layout can be found on the CLS website. Instructors should always leave the room in this configuration for the next class.

• The room has 60 chairs. The chairs have a 5-start base with wheels. The chair height is adjustable. Three or four extra chairs are distributed around the room.

• The room is equipped with under floor power. All of the tables have outlets – most, but not all of them are connected to the power source. When students need power, but do not have access at their table, they may open a floor panel if convenient. Remind students to securely close all floor panels before leaving the room.

• Encourage students to place their backpacks and other personal items out of the walk ways so that the instructor can move around the room without the risk of tripping.

Operation of Touch PanelILC Rm 137 and ILC Rm 141

• Press the touch panel screen to wake it up – this may take several seconds.

• To turn on the projectors, press the box labeled Projectors. You may start and stop each projector individually. When projectors are turned on, screens are lowered automatically. Press Finished to close the window.

• Specify the source for the projectors on the main screen. First select the source and then select the projector. One source goes to Projectors 1 and 3 and a second source goes to Projectors 2 and 4. The same source can be projected to all of the screens by selecting that source for all of the projectors.

• Press the box labeled Screens to fully or partially raise or lower the screens.

• The volume of the source is often controlled on the device (e.g. computer) and on the touch screen. Be sure to adjust the volume on both.

• The room has 15 two-person tables on wheels. In addition, the room has a matching instructor station which is used as an extra student seat in the standard furniture arrangement shown on the following page.

• The room has 31 chairs. The chairs have a 5-start base with wheels. The chair height is adjustable. Chair arms are designed for students to hang their backpacks.

• Instructors (and their students) may rearrange the furniture to meet theirs needs. The room arrangement options are available on the CLS website and the Desktop on the classroom computer.

WhiteboardsReminders for Students

Reminders for students:

• Use only whiteboard markers on the whiteboards.

• Do not remove the whiteboards, markers or erasers from the classroom.

• Be courteous of your tablemates:

• Rotate roles

• Don’t monopolize

• Don’t expect someone to always be the scribe.

• Refrain from doodling on the whiteboards.

• Erase the whiteboards at the end of class.

• Return the whiteboards to the storage location at the end of class.

WhiteboardsTips for Instructors

• Tabletop whiteboards are an effective tool for student collaborations. Instructors should encourage use of tabletop whiteboards.

• Instructor and student work on whiteboards can be displayed using the document camera.

In SEL Rm 200S: 1. Place the whiteboard under the document camera.

In other rooms:2. Place the whiteboard on the easel with the magnetic clips behind the

whiteboard. (Glare is reduced when the whiteboard is vertical.)3. Rotate the document camera towards the whiteboard on the easel.4. Flip-up the lens in front of the camera to improve image quality.

• Frequently reinforce Reminders for Students (previous slide).

• Facilities Management will clean the whiteboards once per week.

• Student and Instructor surveys are conducted periodically.

• Links to surveys are posted on the CLS website.

• Feedback is very important to the CLS planning efforts.

• Please take the time to respond to surveys when requested.

• Please strongly encourage your students to provide feedback when requested.

• In some cases, members of the CLS Team will request to take photos or videos in your class. In these instances, students will be asked to sign video release forms.
