Service Changes Take Effect October 3, 2016The City of Vancouver has transitioned responsibility for residential recycling to Multi-Material BC (MMBC), a non-profit organization that oversees residential packaging and printed paper recycling throughout most of British Columbia. MMBC ensures your household material is picked up, sorted and sold to end markets. Your recycling services are funded by the businesses that supply packaging and printed paper to BC residents, shifting recycling costs away from taxpayers.
New Customer Service Contact InformationIn Vancouver, MMBC’s curbside collection partner is Smithrite Disposal Ltd. If you have questions about missed pick ups, need a replacement container or have other questions about your collection schedule or recycling services, please contact Smithrite at 604-282-7966 or email [email protected].
You can help ensure that more materials are recycled by following these steps:
1. Empty and rinse containers. Containers with contents remaining cannot be recycled and can harm workers or damage machinery. Rinsing also helps reduce odours and pests.
2. Add materials loose to the recycling container. Only shredded paper should be inside a paper bag or box before being added to your recycling.
3. Boxes and cardboard must be flattened. Stack containers that held the same contents, such as yogurt pots.
For more tips, visit www.RecyclingInBC.ca.
Sign up for reminders, import your collection schedule into your on-line calendar, or download the MMBC app on your smartphone. Search for Multi-Material BC in Google Play or the iTunes App Store, or visit recyclinginbc.ca for more information.

Why am I getting a new recycling guide?Effective October 3, 2016, the City of Vancouver has transitioned responsibility for residential recycling collection to MMBC. You are receiving a guide, even if your collection day has not changed, because you have a new recycling service provider and your customer service contact information has changed.
Why does the calendar not cover a full year?MMBC publishes recycling guides annually, in the spring. You can expect to receive an updated guide in April 2017.
