Reminder: Saturn-Uranus-Pluto and the
Question of Collective Karma.
One of the greatest lessons that astrology teaches is that we are individual parts living
within a Greater Whole whose Li fe transcends and includes that individuality. Thus we
wonder how come the good suffer? There are forces, often indicated by the slower movingplanets that override our personal efforts and indeed force us to look at the larger picture in
which we live and breathe and have our being.
Such is the caseat the present time when there is a pattern of great stressbetween three of
the celestial Big Boys: Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto. Saturn and Pluto are in a 90 degree
angle, a square that is augmented in its difficulty by an opposition (180 angle) and
additional square from Uranus, forming what astrologers call a T-square. This set of
interchangesmoves in and out of exactitude until August of 2010, with the Uranus square
Pluto firmly in effect from July 2011 until March of 2015. The result of these interchanges
leads to huge social and climatic unrest. It indicates a challenge to the established social
order and points to many forms of civil protest, profound conflicts between differing
ideological groups, and the violent expression of generational differences. The last time
Saturn and Uranus opposed was during the turbulent 1960s that saw the introduction of
great expansions of social freedom resulting from massive social protests and accompanying
civil warfare.
Saturn and Uranus are the two rulers of the Aquarian Age: the former stands for the
structures of established order, while Uranus is the Father of Archetypes, exalted in
Scorpio, the sign of transformation and profound change. Thus Uranus brings in the new in
spite of the traditional pull of Saturn which when afflicting other planets (and Saturn is
certainly doing that now!), seeks to inhibit such changes and transformations from takingplace. When working in harmony, Saturn and Uranus seek to bring about shifts in
collective paradigms, once that serve the evolution of humanity. But when these two forces
oppose, there is no harmony between the terrestrial powers that be and the groups that
represent the core belief system of these powers. And Saturn and Uranus are indeed
opposing, beginning in November 2008 (in Virgo/Pisces) and continuing through until the
beginning of August 2010 (in Libra/Aries), when I expect them to be even more disruptive
than at present.
If you have any major planetary positions or vital points (such as the Ascendant or
Midheaven) at 0-5 of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn) then you will
be experiencing this need to restructure your life in a very personal way. But all of us, no
matter the degrees in our natal charts, will be feeling the effects of Saturn, Uranus, and
Pluto as we are indeed part of the greater collective. Stay tuned and tune in! Remember
not only is Big Brother watching youyouarealso Big Brother.
