SENIOR COUNCIL LEADERSHIP

Kia ora! My name is Lucy Muldowney, and I have the absolute privilege of being Deputy Head Girl – Learning this year. The definition for learning when searched for on Google, says “the acquisition of knowledge or skills through study, experience, or being taught”. For me, this doesn’t necessarily just highlight academics. Learning is being a part of a sports team and perfecting that new hockey skill; learning is experiencing the rich, diverse culture we have here at Sacred Heart; learning is spending hours on that piece of artwork you have been dying to finish; learning is being a part of the multiple clubs and committees Sacred Heart offers to all students’; learning is recognising that the word “fail” stands for ‘first attempt at learning’; learning is experiencing and trying new things with an open mind. My goal is to emphasise that learning is a process, you will face times of adversity in all aspects of your learning, and it is essential we are diligent within our approach to these challenges. I want to encourage all students to support and encourage their peers in their learning and personal goals throughout the year.

EDUCATION PERFECT WORLD CHAMPS – LANGUAGES 2020

As our lockdown/rāhui was coming to an end, our Languages students were taking part in this competition to compete for points, awards and glory! We achieved some outstanding results (who knew we were that good at Italian?!?!) and would like to congratulate those students who got involved. Special mention must be made of our 4 Elite award winners: Gabriella de Cunha Fernandez, Ashley Urrea, Rebecca de Leeuw and Shreya Dius who each earned over 10,000 points in 7 days. Gabriella was ranked 67th in the world with an outstanding 16,264 points.

Félicitations, tolle Arbeit, enhorabuena, ka mau te wehi!

• 4th for Italian in New Zealand out of 202 schools

• 6th for German in New Zealand out of 245 schools

• 13th for French in New Zealand out of 334 schools

• 28th for Spanish in New Zealand out of 340 schools

• 32nd overall in New Zealand out of 907 schools

STAFF FAREWELL

After 11½ years teaching at Sacred Heart, we farewelled Adele Matthews this week. Adele has made a significant and valuable contribution to our school, particularly in her role as Leader of Learning Arts. Her passion and enthusiasm will be greatly missed and we wish her well in retirement.

ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS

This year’s Entertainment Books are a little different – gone are the paper books that come home with your daughter – Entertainment Book has gone fully digital!

There are also additional options to purchase, including a single city book for $69.99 or multi city which includes vouchers for all over New Zealand, Australia and Bali – this costs $119.99 and is a great opportunity to get out there and support New Zealand tourism as businesses start getting back on their feet after lockdown.

Sacred Heart Girl’s College makes 20% from every purchase, and all proceeds are going towards our Quad Beautification Project. This has always been an amazing fundraiser for our school. If you would like to purchase, please follow this link:
