● Eligibility requirements include graduating from a CA HS and attending a CA HS for at least 3 years.

● Undocumented students should inform their advisor and counselor about their undocumented status as soon as possible, so that we can better help them as they apply to college.

● LPS has an AB540 support group that meets throughout the year; it is led by Ms. Navarro and Mrs. Farrand.

CA Community College System (1 of 3 Slides)

● The California Community Colleges is the largest PUBLIC system of higher education in the nation, with 2.6 million students attending 112 colleges.

● Community colleges provide workforce training, basic courses in English and math, certificate and degree programs and preparation for transfer to four-year universities. Chabot College is a community college. The only requirement to attend a community college is to be 18 or have a high school diploma or GED.

Page 14: College Knowledge “Word Wall” 9 th Grade Leadership Public School Hayward, 2014 - Claudia Aguilar (caguilar@leadps.org)

CA Community College System (2 of 3 Slides)

● High school graduates who don’t meet 4 year requirements or who chose to start at a community college can transfer to a 4 year college from a community college. HOWEVER, the transfer rates are VERY LOW.

● For many reasons, students have a difficult time transferring. Those who do, usually receive lots of guidance from counselors and transfer programs.

● This is why LPS counselors promote going straight to a 4 year college after high school (it increases your chances of graduating with a college degree).
