Prior to 1998, only 1 student had graduated from 9th grade in 38 years in the San Rafael Pacaya Uno village school

As of 2010, over 340 students have graduated from 9th grade

3 district clubs fund 60 of 66 scholarships at $100 per student per year. RC Coatepeque-Colomba funds 6

The success of Pacaya Uno led another village to start a secondary education program

The first graduating class was 2006 with 25 students

Currently about 40 students apply per year. 3 district clubs fund 30 of the 66 in

scholarships at $100 per student per year. The remainder are funded by RC Coatepeque-Colomba (22 Rotarians).

The scholarships were established in 2002

Rotary club of Portland joined in to assist in 2004
