OVERVIEW OF COLON CANCER AMONG MICHIGAN NATIVE

AMERICANS The Michigan Native American population

has the lowest screening rate at 38.6 for men and women age 50 and over, compared to 54.7 for the general population; 55.0 for the African American population; 43.7 for the Hispanic population; and 40.5 for the Arab Population ( MCC 2008)

The Bemidji area age adjusted Colon Cancer death rate is 28.1 per 100,000 population compared to and I.H.S. all areas rate of 12.6 and the U.S. all races rate of 12.6 per 100,000 population. (I.H.S. 2003)
