Colonel John Bridgeman CBE TD DL Master, The Worshipful Company of Turners, 2014/2015 Born and educated in Wales, and a Graduate in Chemistry, John initially had a 30 year international career in the aluminium industry. This culminated in appointment as Director of Corporate Strategy for Alcan Aluminium Limited in Montreal before returning to the UK as CEO of British Alcan Aluminium plc. He has served terms as a Member of the Monopolies & Mergers Commission, as Director General of Fair Trading and as Chairman of the Direct Marketing Authority. After leaving Government John was appointed Chairman of the Jockey Club’s Regulatory Board and later became founding Chairman of the Horseracing Regulatory Authority. He was also appointed to the Board of British Waterways, became Chairman of its Fair Trading Committee, of the Advisory Board for Waterways in Wales and later the Vice Chairman. He moved on to become a founding Trustee of the new Canal & River Trust, now one of Britain’s Top 10 Charities, Chairman of its Audit Committee and a Trustee of the Waterways Pension Fund, retiring in 2014. Commissioned into REME TA, John has served with Yeomanry regiments, commanded a Field Workshop, served on the Defence Science Advisory Council and was for 5 years Chairman of the National Employers’ Liaison Committee for the Reserves of the Armed Forces, renaming it SABRE. As well as supporting REME the Turners’ Company has close links with HMS Sultan and RAF St Athan. With many years of experience in the charitable sector John has been appointed the first Independent Chairman of the Recovery Career Services Partnership, a venture between leading service charities and the Ministry of Defence. He has been a Deputy Lieutenant of Oxfordshire since 1989, is a former High Sheriff and Honorary Colonel of the Queen’s Own Oxfordshire Hussars, and a Churchwarden of his local parish church. He is also Independent Complaints Commissioner for the Direct Marketing Authority and a Trestee of the British Horse Racing Pension Fund. John lives in Oxfordshire with his wife Lindy and their retired horses; he enjoys equestrian sports, inland waterways, skiing, shooting, industrial history and turning. John and Lindy have three children Victoria, Philippa and Annabel, and four grandchildren, Ella, Tilly, Tom and Harry. January 2015

Born and educated in Wales, and a Graduate in Chemistry, John initially had a 30 year international career in the aluminium industry.
