Conquering Native Americans Europeans were able to conquer Native Americans for many reasons. Europeans had superior weapons and technology which were unknown to Natives. The Natives groups were divided amongst themselves. The Europeans brought new diseases which the Natives could not resist. Colonial Life Colonial Life differed depending on where you lived. New England developed as a center for making goods. The Middle Colonies had medium sized farms and depended on trade. The Southern Colonies had large plantations and needed slaves to work on these plantations. Colonial Life Colonial Economies The Colonies depended on trade with Europe. The Colonies sent tobacco, rice, fish, cotton and other natural resources to Europe. In Europe these resources become manufactured goods and were sent back to the Colonies. Colonial Government The English colonists brought with them strong traditions of individual rights and limited self government. Magna Carta gave rights to English citizens. Parliamentary rule 1600s- divided power with the King of England Mayflower Compact Colonists agreed to a government that obtained its power from the people.
