![Page 3: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Color Theory:
A body of practical
guidance to color mixing and
the visual impacts of
specific color combinations.
(wikipedia.org)
![Page 4: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
According to color theory, certain color combinations
work better than others. Using color schemes
can help with the over all success of a composition.

Color Schemes:
An arrangement or pattern of
colors or colored objects

Color Schemes: • Primary: Red, Blue, Yellow• Secondary: Orange, Purple, Green• Tertiary/Intermediate colors: The colors in
between a primary and secondary color.• Complimentary: Colors across from each other
on the color wheel; green/red, orange/blue, and purple/yellow
• Analogous: Colors that are next to each other on the color wheel; red, orange, yellow.
• Monochromatic: One color, plus value (black and white)

Spilt-Complimentary Colors: Triad of colors consisting of a compliment,
plus the two tertiary/intermediate colors on each side of it’s compliment.

Monochromatic:
Consisting of one color, plus its tints and shades (color + black and white = monochromatic)
![Page 21: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
Examples of monochromatic compositions…

![Page 23: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
Okay, so you know about color, but there are a few other things you need
to know.
• Shape: Organic and Geometric
• Balance: Asymmetrical
• Space: Positive and Negative
![Page 24: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
Shape:
An area enclosed by line.
![Page 25: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
There are two types of shape:
Organic Geometric
![Page 26: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
Organic Shape:
Characteristic of, pertaining to, or derived from living organisms (dictionary.com)
![Page 27: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
Organic shapes have curvy, natural lines.
![Page 28: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)
Geometric Shape:
Arrangement of objects in simple rectilinear or curvilinear form.
(dictionary.com)
![Page 29: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
Geometric shapes are characterized by straight, rigid lines.
![Page 30: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)
Balance:
Equal distribution of weight (dictionary.com)
![Page 31: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/31.jpg)
There are three types of balance:
• Symmetrical
• Asymmetrical
• Radial
![Page 32: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/32.jpg)
Asymmetrical Balance:
Not identical on both sides of a central line; lacking symmetry
![Page 33: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/33.jpg)
Both sides of the composition are not the same, but the shapes visually
balance each other.
![Page 34: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/34.jpg)
![Page 35: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/35.jpg)
Positive and Negative Space:
Positive Space: The object; the are the object occupies.
Negative Space: The area around the object.
![Page 36: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/36.jpg)
When creating a composition, the negative space and positive space
should be about equal.
![Page 37: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/37.jpg)
Try to avoid
having too much negative space.
![Page 38: Color](https://reader036.vdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022062511/54b8adf64a7959a8068b456d/html5/thumbnails/38.jpg)
