  • 1. OKI Data C711 Installation

This chapter describes the installation of an OKI Data C711 Digital Color printer.

OverviewThe OKI Data C711 Digital Color printer provides print screen and text printing for 50 Series (Solaris-based) workstations and 70 Series (Windows-based) workstations. The OKI Data C711 shipment includes new software and installation documents when the printer is purchased from Invensys.

Upgraded Model 51 software is needed to convert Model 51 screen information to printer com-mands. The new Model 51 software on the diskette can be loaded only in systems running the Solaris 2.5.1 operating system or Solaris 8 operating system; this corresponds to I/A Series system releases V4.3.x, V6.1.x, V6.2.x, V6.3, V6.4, V6.5, V6.5.x, and V7.x. The new software also includes scripts that facilitate loading and configuration of the printer software. For information on Solaris 10 workstation printer installation, refer to Color Printer Installation for V8.x Solaris Based Systems (B0700BT).

Since the Model 51 software needed to upgrade to the OKI Data C711 color printer comprises only a few executables, the software for all stations is shipped on one diskette. Be certain to tar in only the software name specified for each processor type. See I/A Series Model 51 Software Installation on page 8. If you have an older version of software, refer to Appendix C Lexmark Optra Color 45 Installation and Appendix D Withdrawn Printers and Installation of HP DeskJet 1600CM for software and loading instruction part numbers.

The OKI Data C711 color printer can be used with workstations running the Windows operating system; this corresponds to I/A Series system releases V4.3.x, V6.1.x, V6.2.x, V6.3, V6.4, V6.5, V6.5.x, V7.x, and V8.x. For Windows-based workstations, printer drivers can be installed during normal I/A Series software installation or from the CD shipped with the printer. See I/A Series Software Installation on Windows XP Workstations on page 9.

Printer ConfigurationThe OKI Data C711 is a parallel port printer. It should be ordered using the part numbers listed below. The assembly includes the printer, software, and documentation:

    Serial Port Connections

NOTEThe OKI Data C711 does not support serial port connections, I/A Series WP20/30 operations, or COMM10 connections.

I/A Series Model 51 Software InstallationThe OKI Data C711 can only be used on V4.3.x, V6.1.x, V6.2.x, V6.3, V6.4, V6.5, V6.5.x, and V7.x. (For information on Solaris 10 workstation printer installation, refer to Color Printer Instal-lation for V8.x Solaris Based Systems [B0700BT]). When you are printing screens from an AW51 or WP51, a newer version of the /usr/fox/wp/bin/xwd2ps executable needs to be loaded on the station originating the print screen. The newer version is used for releases 4.3x, 6.1x, 6.2x, and 6.3. Your system must have already been configured and installed with a PostScript printer. Load the newer software by following these instructions.

    1. Insert the Color Printer Software diskette, Part Number K0173UW-H, in the drive.

    2. From a VT100 window enter:cd /var/tmptar xvf /dev/rfd0 ./prt-load.51

    3. Run the script; enter:prt-load.51

    4. Answer the questions as it runs.

NOTEThe OKI Data C6150 will also function properly if configured using the selection of the OKI Data C6050 while running the prt-load.51 script.

Now the Print Screen function sends a proper PostScript file to the OKI Data C711 printer. In some cases it may be necessary to reboot the AW or WP.

I/A Series COMM10 and PW Software Installation

NOTEThe OKI Data C711 does not support serial port connections, I/A Series WP20/30 operations, or COMM10 connections.8

I/A Series Software Installation on Windows XP Workstations

Installing Drivers for Parallel Printers Attached to Windows XPand Windows Server WorkstationsUsing the system configuration software, such as SysDef or IACC, you can configure I/A Series workstations running the Windows XP operating system and servers running the Windows Server 2003 operating system with parallel printers.

The system configuration software assigns names to the printers such as LP01 and LP02. This information is then placed on the Commit disk. When you perform an I/A Series software instal-lation, the Commit disk is read and a printer driver is installed for each named printer.

The printer driver is generic and may not be the best driver for the parallel printer that it is associ-ated with. Use the following procedure to determine which printer drivers are installed on your workstation and to replace them if necessary.

    1. From the Windows Start menu, select Settings > Printer and Faxes.

The Printers and Faxes window opens. This window lists each configured printer.

    2. Review the descriptions in the Model column. Make note of the SysDef LPxx name currently assigned to the printer (for example LP01).

    3. If they do not match, delete the current printer (for example HP 1200) and install the correct one from the CD that was shipped with your printer.

NOTEIf the appropriate driver is not installed, the CPU loading can reach 100% for an extended period of time and cause connections to other I/A Series workstations to break.

NOTEThe 50 foot extension kit (P0971LS) is not compatible with Windows XP worksta-tions. The 50 foot (P0922WW) cable must be used for the 50 foot option.

    a. Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive in your computer.

    b. Follow the instructions that appear to add the new printer to the parallel port (LPT1).

    c. After the installation is complete, open the Printers and Faxes window.

    d. Select the printer you just installed and rename it to match the SysDef name that you noted in step 2 above. 9

  • Appendix B. HP 9800 Installation

This chapter describes the installation of the legacy HP 9800 Color DeskJet printer (withdrawn from sale).

OverviewThe HP 9800 Color DeskJet printer provides print screen and text printing for 50 Series (Solaris-based) workstations and 70 Series (Windows-based) workstations. The HP 9800 shipment includes new software and installation documents when the printer is purchased from Invensys.

Since the Model 51 software needed to upgrade to the HP 9800 Color DeskJet printer comprises only a few executables, the software for all stations is shipped on one diskette. Be certain to tar in only the software name specified for each processor type. See I/A Series Model 51 Software Installation on page 27. If you have an older version of software, refer to the tables in Appendix D Withdrawn Printers and Installation of HP DeskJet 1600CM for software and loading instruction part numbers.

The HP 9800 Color DeskJet printer can be used with workstations running the Windows operat-ing system; this corresponds to I/A Series system releases V4.3.x, V6.1.x, V6.2.x, V6.3, V6.4, V6.5, V6.5.x, V7.x, and V8.x. For Windows-based workstations, printer drivers can be installed during normal I/A Series software installation or from the CD shipped with the printer. See I/A Series Software Installation on Windows-Based Workstations on page 29.

    Serial Port Connections

NOTEThe HP 9800 does not support serial port connections, I/A Series WP20/30 opera-tions, or COMM10 connections.

    I/A Series Model 51 Software InstallationThe HP 9800 can only be used on V4.3.x, V6.1.x, V6.2.x, V6.3, V6.4, V6.5, and V7.x.

Insert the Color Printer Software diskette, Part Number K0173UW-F or later, in the drive. This needs to be done on all sources and destinations of print screens for PCL3 printing.

    1. From a VT100 window, enter:cd /var/tmptar xvf /dev/rfd0 ./prt-load.51

    2. Run the script; enter:prt-load.51

    3. Answer the questions as it runs.

    4. Now the Print Screen function sends PCL3 commands to HP 9800 printer. It is nec-essary to reboot the AW or WP.

    5. View the /etc/printers file to insure the LPxx device is defined as a color Inkjet printer. Do not have PS in the description field, as this overrides and generates PostScript output. If /etc/printers must change, make a backup copy using cp -p /etc/printers /etc/printers.bak. Then use the vi editor to change the description field. Be careful not to expand or contract the size of the field.

    6. View the text file /etc/printscreen.options. It associates PCL3 characteristics with an LPxx port. Use the vi editor to change characteristics of the printscreen.

An entry must exist for each HP 9800 printer configured and must conform to the following format (this must be done on all sources and destinations of print screens):

    :LPxx PCL3

The port must be indicated by starting the line with a colon followed by LPxx, where xx is the assigned printer port number. User selectable HP 9800 printer options follow the port name; each option must be separated by either a space or line feed. The options are listed in Table B-1.

    Language Option PCL3 Required

    Page Orientation PORTRAIT

    LANDSCAPE Default27

  • B0400SF Rev S Appendix B. HP 9800 Installation

The minimum entry should be: LPxx PCL3. This uses the standard default values.

To override a default, add an option to the list in the /etc/printscreen.options file (this must be done on all sources of print screens):

    :LPxx PCL3 PORTRAIT

or enter in the /etc/printscreen.options file, one of the entries defined in the /etc/printscreen.printers file.

    7. Edit the following lpadmin command so that the printer is properly initialized (this must be done on all destinations of print screens):

    lpadmin -pLPxx -T hplaser -i /usr/fox/exten/standard -I simple

    8. Exit the VT100 window.

Repeat Steps 4 through 6 for each AW/WP51.

I/A Series Software Installation on Windows-Based Workstations

Installing Drivers for Parallel Printers Attached to 70 Series Workstations (Windows NT Operating System)When you install a printer on a 70 Series workstation running the Windows NT operating sys-tem, the normal installation of I/A Series software allows for the proper driver to be used. When printers are configured and the PCL3 option is selected, the software driver for a HP 855 is loaded. The HP 9800 printer cannot use this same driver on Windows NT based units.

Since this printer driver is not ideal for this printer, use the following procedure to install the cor-rect driver.

    1. From the Windows Start menu, select Settings > Printer and Faxes.

The Printers and Faxes window opens. This window lists each configured printer.

    2. Review the descriptions in the Model column. Make note of the SysDef LPxx name currently assigned to the printer (for example LP01).

    3. If they do not match, delete the current printer (for example HP 855) and install the correct one from the CD (HP supplied) that was shipped with your printer.

NOTEIf the appropriate driver is not installed, the CPU loading can reach 100% for an extended period of time and cause connections to other I/A Series workstations to break.

    a. Insert the CD (HP) into the CD-ROM drive in your computer.

    b. Follow the instructions that appear (alternatively there is a file on the CD (HP) which you can open to read and follow) to add the new HP 9800 printer to the parallel port (LPT1).

    c. After the installation is complete, open the Printers and Faxes window.

    d. Select the HP 9800 you just installed and rename it to match the SysDef name that you noted in step 2 above.

Installing Drivers for Parallel Printers Attached to Windows XPand Windows Server WorkstationsIf you have configured a parallel Inkjet printer for an I/A Series workstation that is running the Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 operating system, when you install the printer using the SysDef utility, the I/A Series software installation automatically installs the HP 1200 printer driver. Since this printer driver is not ideal for this printer, use the following procedure to install the correct driver.

    1. From the Windows Start menu, select Settings > Printer and Faxes.

The Printers and Faxes window opens. This window lists each configured printer.

    2. Review the descriptions in the Model column. Make note of the SysDef LPxx name currently assigned to the printer (for example LP01).29

NOTEIf the appropriate driver is not installed, the CPU loading can reach 100% for an extended period of time and cause connections to other I/A Series workstations to break.

    a. Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive in your computer.

    b. Follow the instructions that appear (alternatively there is a file on the CD which you can open to read and follow) to add the new HP 9800 printer to the parallel port (LPT1).

I/A Series Model 51 Software InstallationThe Lexmark Optra Color 45 can only be used on V4.3.x, V6.1.x, V6.2.x, V6.3, V6.4, and V6.5. When you are printing screens from an AW51 or WP51, a newer version of the /usr/fox/wp/bin/xwd2ps executable needs to be loaded on the station originating the print screen. Your system must have already been configured and installed with a PostScript printer. Load the newer software by following these instructions.

    1. Insert the Color Printer Software diskette, Part Number K0173UW-C or later, in the drive.

    2. From a VT100 window, enter:cd /var/tmptar xvf /dev/rfd0 ./prt-load.51

    3. Run the script; enter:prt-load.51

    4. Answer the questions as it runs.

Now the Print Screen function sends a proper PostScript file to the Lexmark Optra Color 45 printer.

I/A Series COMM10 and PW Software InstallationThe Lexmark Optra Color 45 printer can print screens from all versions of WP30 and PW, when the printer is connected to a COMM Server 10 or a PW host. The printers host (COMM10 or PW) converts the print screen data to PCL5 commands for the printer.

NOTEThis is the same processing that was done for the HP 1600CM printer. So, if you have already installed an HP 1600CM and replaced it with a Lexmark Optra Color 45, no work needs to be done. Just plug in the new printer.

Depending upon the version of System Definition used, the printer type may be set up as a PaintJet printer. This is type 2 for the P1DEV parameter in the IIF.dat and IIF.prm files. If it is kept this way, the print screens to a Lexmark printer have the screen objects in all black and white. The following set of instructions modifies the IIF.dat and IIF.prm files on the hosting station, and allows a reinstallation of the hosting station to change the printer port type to 10, which is needed for PCL5.

At this point, the COMM10 (and/or PW) Committed Install must have already been run, and determined that the printer port type does not match the printer type.

    1. Insert the Color Printer Software diskette, Part Number K0173UW-C or later, into the COMM10s host system drive (or in the PWs diskette drive, since the PW is self- hosting).

    2. Invoke a VT100 window and enter:cd /usr/tmp

    On a Model 51, enter:tar xvf /dev/rfd0 ./prt-setup.10

On an AP20 and PW, enter: tar xvf /dev/rfh0 ./prt-setup.10

Remove the diskette, K0173UW-C, from the diskette drive.

    3. Check the software configuration by entering:prt-setup.10 REPORT 0 0 0 | grep

Verify the value of P1DEV (P2DEV, P3DEV, or P4DEV) for the printer you need to change. It needs to be 10 for a PCL5 type printer. To verify value, enter:

    prt-setup.10

    4. Change the current P1DEV (P2DEV, P3DEV, or P4DEV) to the desired value 10. Enter:

    prt-setup

    For example: prt-setup.10 CMSR05 2 2 10

    5. Repeat the prt-setup command for each placement of a PCL5 printer.

    6. Make a dummy tar diskette for Software Install, because Software Install asks for a dis-kette, even though no new software is needed.

Put a blank diskette in the diskette drive.

    Enter:

format /dev/rfh0 on an AP20 and PW, or enter fdformat /dev/rfd0 on a 51 Series station.

    touch empty

    On a Model 51, enter:39

  • B0400SF Rev S Appendix C. Lexmark Optra Color 45 Installation

    tar cvf /dev/rfd0 empty

On an AP20 or PW, enter:tar cvf /dev/rfh0 empty

    7. Start executing Software Install for AP20 or AP51 from the WSYE terminal by enter-ing the following:

    cd /usr/fox/swiinstallap

NOTEOn a WYSE terminal, selection is done by either first letter or arrow key followed by Enter, since there is no mouse.

Or, start executing Software Install from the graphical interface on a workstation pro-cessor or PW by picking the following:

Config on top menu barINSTALL_PW or INSTALL_AW from Config drop-down menu.

    8. Complete the Software Install.

    a. Select UTILITIES.

    b. Select RE-INSTALL SELECTED PACKAGES from the drop-down menu.

    c. Verify that at least 3,000 blocks are free in / and /usr. This disk space is needed to run install.

    d. Select INSTALL.

    e. Select packages from the package menu (OS1CS, OS3PC3, OS3PC4, or OS3PC1).

    f. Select INSTALL PACKAGE from the top menu bar.

    g. Select UNSTAMPED SET 1 3.5 FLOPPY.

    h. Select LOAD SELECTED MEDIA from top menu bar.

    i. Select LOAD with the dummy diskette inserted in the diskette drive.

    j. Repeat this step for each station needing to be installed.

    9. Verify the software install had no errors.

    a. Select LOG REVIEW from the Software Install top menu.

    b. Select DISPLAY INSTALLATION LOG from drop-down menu.

    10. Review the installation log for errors. If no errors are found, proceed to the next step. If errors are found, contact the Invensys Global Customer Support Center. Customers in the USA and Canada may call 866-746-6477.

    11. Reboot the COMM10 station module via System Management or the PW by select-ing PW-Shutdown.

    12. Select the print screen printer, picking SELECT PRINTER from the Config button drop-down menu. The printer is now ready to use.40

  • Appendix E. Legacy HP 2800 Installation

This appendix describes the installation of the legacy HP 2800 Color PostScript printer (P0923QT). This printer has been replaced with the OKI Data C6050 Digital Color printer (P0923ZC and P0923ZD) discussed in Chapter 1 OKI Data C711 Installation.

OverviewThe legacy HP Business Inkjet 2800 Color PostScript printer provides print screen and text print-ing for 50 Series (Solaris-based) workstations and 70 Series (Windows-based) workstations. The HP 2800 shipment includes new software and installation documents when the printer is purchased from Invensys.

Since the Model 51 software needed to upgrade to the HP 2800 Color PostScript printer com-prises only a few executables, the software for all stations is shipped on one diskette. Be certain to tar in only the software name specified for each processor type. See I/A Series Model 51 Software Installation on page 54. If you have an older version of software, refer to Appendix C Lexmark Optra Color 45 Installation and Appendix D Withdrawn Printers and Installation of HP DeskJet 1600CM for software and loading instruction part numbers.

The HP 2800 Color PostScript printer can be used with workstations running the Windows operating system; this corresponds to I/A Series system releases V4.3.x, V6.1.x, V6.2.x, V6.3, V6.4, V6.5, V6.5.x, V7.x, and V8.x. For Windows-based workstations, printer drivers can be installed during normal I/A Series software installation or from the CD shipped with the printer. See I/A Series Software Installation on Windows-Based Workstations on page 55.

Printer ConfigurationThe HP 2800 is a parallel port printer. The HP 2800 printer should be ordered using the part number listed below. The assembly includes the printer, software, and documentation:

I/A Series COMM10 and PW Software Installation

NOTEThe HP 2800 does not support serial port connections, I/A Series WP20/30 opera-tions, or COMM10 connections.

When printers are configured and the PostScript option is selected, the software driver for a HP 1200 is loaded. The HP 2800 printer can use this same driver on Windows NT based units.

Installing Drivers for Parallel Printers Attached to Windows XPand Windows Server WorkstationsUsing system configuration software such as SysDef or IACC, you can configure I/A Series workstations running the Windows XP operating system and servers running the Windows Server 2003 operating system with parallel printers.

    3. If they do not match, delete the current printer (for example HP 1200) and install the correct one from the CD that was shipped with your printer.55

  • B0400SF Rev S Appendix E. Legacy HP 2800 Installation

NOTE1. If the appropriate driver is not installed, the CPU loading can reach 100% for an

extended period of time and cause connections to other I/A Series workstationsto break.

    2. The PCL5c driver requires less CPU loading than the PostScript driver. Bothdrivers are included on the CD.

NOTEServers running the Windows Server 2003 operating system require that you install the PCL6 driver from the CD.

  • Appendix F. Problem Solving

This appendix addresses common printer problems.

Cannot Access PrinterWhen the printer is receiving or processing data, the Ready light flashes. If you cannot make the printers Ready light flash from either a remote station or the printers host station with either the Print Screen function or lp (to print an ASCII file), check the following:

Verify that the I/A Series system has been properly configured for a PaintJet printer. Verify that the printer is properly cabled, as described in this document, and that all

    switch settings are properly set.

Verify that the printers ONLINE and Ready lights are lit and that the serial-to-parallel converter is powered.

Verify that the printer appears in Systems Management and is on-line. Execute the DeskJet self-test. Execute the lpstat -t command from a VT100 window and verify that the scheduler is

running and the printer is enabled and accepting requests.

No Output from Print ScreenIf an ASCII file can be sent to the printer but Print Screen does not make the printers Ready light flash, verify that the /etc/printers file is accurately modified and verify that the correct printer is selected with the Select Printer function from the workstations Display Manager.

NOTEWhen the extended parallel printer cable connection is used, the status returned to the processor and displayed on SMDH indicates the state of the modem line and not the state of the printer. If the actual state of the printer is needed, the normal parallel port cable, or a COMM Server 10 connection should be used.

Error Output from Print ScreenThe printer may display the following error message when attempting a Print Screen command:

    ERROR: undefined

    OFFENDING COMMAND:.......

    STACK:

This indicates that the printer cannot read the data or that it has lost characters in the process of transmitting the data. Check the following:

Verify that the printer is properly cabled, as described in this document, and check all switch settings.57

  • B0400SF Rev S Appendix F. Problem Solving

Verify that an ASCII file can be printed. Use Print Screen to print a 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch window; no flow control is used. Execute the DeskJet self-test. Cycle the power to both the DeskJet printer and the serial-to-parallel converter.

Cropped Print Screen OutputPrint Screens from 50 Series workstations appear correct but cropped on the bottom and right side if the workstation is sending PaintJet commands instead of PostScript output. Check the following:

Verify that the /etc/printers file is accurately modified.

NOTEThe modification made to this file when this document is installed is lost if a Soft-ware Install is performed.

Select another printer, then reselect the desired printer. The description line must have a PS in it.

Verify that the software is properly installed. Reboot the workstation.

Corrupted Print Screen OutputWhen the printer receives an improper file, it prints corrupted images. To clear the improper file from the printer, turn the power off on both the DeskJet printer and the serial-to-parallel con-verter, if present, for at least 30 seconds.

If this does not clear the problem, run the self-test on the DeskJet printer.

No ASCII OutputWhen a file has been sent to the HP 1600CM for printing, the Ready light flashes. However, the printer does not print a page until it has received a Form Feed command or more than a full page of output. A Form Feed command can be issued by either pressing the Form Feed button, or by sending the printer a Form Feed command, for example:

    echo l > /dev/LP##

Skewed ASCII OutputWhen the line termination character in an ASCII file is instead of , output may be skewed. That is, each line of the output begins in the column following the end of the proceed-ing line.58

  • Appendix F. Problem Solving B0400SF Rev S

Printing from AP10 or AP20To avoid skewed ASCII output on an AP10/20, print ASCII files with the following lp command:

    lp -dLP## readme.txt

Printing from 50 Series StationsTo avoid skewed ASCII output on 50 Series stations, instruct the printer to do a each time it sees only . This can be done by sending the printer an escape sequence as follows:

    echo \033&k2G >/dev/LP##

Sending the DeskJet printer a PostScript file (that is, a Print Screen from a 50 Series workstation) clears the setting and requires that the file be re-sent. However, the above command can be added to a script, or the escape sequence can be added to the beginning of an ASCII file.

Printing from Model 51 StationsTo modify a Model 51 stations script file such that the lp command issues the escape sequence to the printer prior to printing and also issues a Form Feed command to eject the last page, make the following changes on each AP/AW/WP51 in the system:

    1. Type:

    cd /etc/lp/interfaces

cp LPxx HP1200 (LPxx: logical name for the HP DeskJet)

    2. Using a text editor, find the following at or about line 709:#####

    # Set the page size and print spacing, but not the

    # character set.

    # We will be doing the character set later (after the

    # header).

    #####

    internal_lpset ${cpi.} ${lpi} ${width} ${length}

    3. Add the following line after the above text:# Echo command to printer to map Newlines # as Carriage-return Newline./bin/echo \0033&k2G\c

    4. Find near the end of the file:if [-n ${FF} -a yes = ${nofilebreak}]

    then

    echo ${CR}${FF}\c

    fi

Add the following lines after the above text:# Eject the last page out of the printer/bin/echo \0014\c59

  • B0400SF Rev S Appendix F. Problem Solving

    5. Issue the following lpadmin command:rm LPxxln -s HP1200 LPxxlpadmin -p LPxx -i /etc/lp/interfaces/HP1200

An lp of an ASCII file is formatted properly and the last page is ejected.

    6. To keep the changes permanent through a system reboot, add the name of the new interface file to /var/tmp/padmin.ia. Perform the following steps:

    a. Type cd /var/tmp to change to the correct directory.

    b. Create a backup of padmin.ia. Type cp p padmin.ia padminia.sav.

    c. Open the padmin.ia file with a text editor.

    d. Find the line in the file with ln s ps_interface LPxx.

    e. Change this line to ln s HP1200 LPxx.

    f. Save your changes and exit the text editor.

    g. Create a new copy of padmin.ia. Type cp p padmin.ia padminia.new.

Printing from PWsTo avoid skewed ASCII output on PWs, instruct the printer to do a each time it sees only . This can be done by sending the printer an escape sequence as follows:

    /bin/echo \0033&k2G\c >/dev/LP##60
