Indicate a Hue with a specific light source

Example- blue light & red light

-Orange via yellow and more or less white

to Bluish white are not the speak of colour

temperature of

Measured by Degree Kelvin

Unit symbol (K)

Started in the late of 1800s

British Physicist – William Kelvin

He hearted a block of carbon

It glowed(=to produce a dull, steady light)in the heat

Producing a range of different colour at different temperature

1st produced a dim Red light

Increasing to a brighter yellow as the temperature went up

Eventually produced a bright Blue-white glow

(at the highest temperature)

Attributed to different types of lights are correlated based on visible colors matching

a standard black body

Are not the actual temperature at which a filament burn

An physical body that absorb all incident rays

Opaque (=not allow light through)

Not reflect

One with a ‘Rough surface’

Reflect all incident rays

In fishkeeping Freshwater aquaria - use attractive

spectrum to keeping plants alive

Salty / Reef aquarium – use high temperature light source

Aquaculture

Film Stock & Video camera

Visible colour are relative to Colour Balance(White Balance )

By using colour gels (=colour filters) over light source

Common fixed settings - 3200K (Indoor colour balance )

- 5500K Outdoor (Daylight colour balance)

Usually choose based on the dominant lighting

Find the colour that corresponding to the type of light source at the colour

temperature

Example: High colour temperature light sources - overcast (covered with clouds, dull) day

In the shade(=out of Sun) In window light Using tungsten film with white or blue light [Correct colour by using Yellowish-orange filter]

Low colour temperature light sources – Sunset Candlelight A tungsten lighting [Correct colour by using Bluish filter ]

White-Balancing ( Video camera operators)

-downplay the colour of an object by using white-balancing

-Serve in place of a filter or lighting gels if it unavailable

-For instance,white-balancing off something Light Blue to bring more warmth into a picture

If tungsten film is

shot outside in

sunlight, the

sunlight looks

go through an

orange filter

Desktop Publishing

Colour matching software- Apple's ColorSync for Mac OS

Enable on-screen colour to more closely match printed colour

Normally 5000K above

Vivid(=very bright) & energetic (full of energy,enthusiasm)

Tend to advance in space

Lower colour temperature

(2700 K- 3000 K )

Yellowish(= fairly yellow ) white through Red

Warmer light is used in public areas to promote relaxation

5000 K

Higher colour temperature

Cooler light is used to enhance concentration

in offices

Artist

Most paper have cool & warm colours cast

GREY + ( red / yellow /orange ) = WARM GREY

GREY + green / blue / purple ) = COOL GREY

Reverse of the Temperature

‘Bluer’ = ‘Cooler ‘ although it correspond to higher-temperature
