Instrument PanelSimulated woodgrain trim on the faceof the instrument panel cluster isstandard on all Colt models-exceptthe Colt Carousel, which has light-bluedenim trim. The cluster is recessedunder a padded hood and gauges aredeeply ricessed in three large circulardials. The center dial features a100-mile-per-hour speedometer and anodometer, plus a reminder light forEGR (exhaust gas recirculation) mainte-nance. The right dial has gauges forengine temperature and fuel, andwarning lights for battery charging, oilpressure, brake system and seat belts'The left dial is for the tachometer thatis standard on Colt GT, not available onother models. The GT has black framesfor gauges, heater and optional r-adio;frames ire bright on other models.

Glove Box and Package TrayA roomy glove box with a quick-release push-button latch is standardon all Colt models. Just beneath theglove box is a convenient sports-car-type open package shelf where often-

used items can be kept readilyaccessible. The package tray is notavailable in the Colt Coupe, but isstandard on all other models exceptwhen equipped with air conditioning.

Wiper-Washer Control andHeadlight Dimmer SwitchWindshield wiper and washer controlsare conveniently located on the end ofthe turn-signal lever. To turn on thewipers, simply rotate the large collarto either "LO" or "HIl' Pressing thebutton at the end of the lever operatesthe washers. Pulling the turn-signalIever toward you activates theheadlight dimmer switch. A secondpull on the lever returns the headlightsto bright. A high-beam warning lightis in the face of the speedometer.

Car Keys: Master,Ignition and AntennaTwo keys are provided with everyColt: a master key to operate theignition switch, door locks, trunk lock,and fuel-filler-door lock; and a secondkey that works the ignition switch anddoor locks but not the trunk. Thus,you can leave your Colt with a parkinglot attendant and not have to worryabout items in your trunk. A third keyis furnished with station wagonsequipped with the optional radio-itlocks the antenna in the full downposition.

Tilt Steering ColumnAl1 Colt models have a tilt steeringcolumn- and it's standard equipment.To tilt the column, loosen a knob onthe side of the steering column andmove the column to the desiredposition-then tighten the knob again.The combination of adjustable steeringwheel positions and standard recliningseat-back positions gives the driver awide choice of driving postures.

Bucket Seats withReclining Seat-BacksA111975 Colts, including the ColtCoupe, have foam-padded front bucketseats with reclining seat-backs. A leveron the side of the seat adjusts thereclining back. The bucket seats canalso be adjusted forward and backwarda total of more than 5 inches. A leveron the front of each seat controls thefore and aft movement. High-back

bucket seats in GT, Carousel andCoupe models have integral headrestraints. Bucket seats in Sedan andWagon models have adjustable headrestraints. The rear seat in all models isa bench-type seat. Expanded-vinyl trimis standard on all models except theCoupe, which has solid-grained vinyl.

Dome and CargoCompartment LightsAll Colt models have a dome light justabove the windshield header. The lighthas a 3-way switch with off, on andautomatic positions. In the automaticposition, the light turns on and offwhen the front or rear doors areopened or closed. Station wagons havea second overhead light in the cargocompartment.

Spring-LoadedSeat-Back ReleaseGT, Carousel and Coupe models havea spring-loaded seat-back release forthe bucket seats. Release the lever withone hand and the seat-back foldsforward automatically for easyentrance to the rear compartment.

Console on all models exceptGT and CarouselThis console is standard with theoptional automatic transmission on allColt models except the GT andCarousel. This console is not availablewith the 4-speed or S-speed manualtransmission.

Console on GT and CarouselThis large console with storagecompartmeni is standard on theCarousel with the standard 4-speedmanual or optional automatictransmission, and on the GT with thestandard S-speed manual or optionalautomatic transmission. With manualtransmission, shown here, a bootsurrounds the gear-shift lever and isneatly fitted into the opening in theconsole.

Ignition LockColt's ignition switch is located on thesteering column. When the switch is inthe lock position, the steering wheelcannot be turned. If the driver's dooris opened while the key is in theignition switch, abuzzer sounds.

Curved ArmrestsLong, curved, sports-car-type armrestswith bright trim are standard on ColtGT and Carousel models. Coupe,Sedan and Wagon have shorterarmrests. Coupe and Wagon havefront-seat armrests only.

HeaterColt's fresh-air heater system has threelever controls and a fan switch. Theupper lever directs air down for heatingwhen in the ROOM position, and upto the windshield for defrosting whenin the DEF position. Or it may be setin the middle to direct air in bothdirections. The center lever is thetemperature control.

No heat is added to the system whenthis control is in the OFF position.

Flow-Through VentilationFresh air flows through the car withall windows closed, for quiet fresh-airventilation. Air enters throughlouvered openings in the instrumentpanel and at floor level. Air isexhausted through slotted openingsand circular outlets in the rear roofpillars on all models except stationwaSons. There are louvered air outletsjust above the taillights on stationwagons. To admit air through theinstrument panel outlets, pull the ventknobs under the instrument panel.To bring in fresh air at floor level,move the lower lever on the heatercontrol panel to the VENT position.

The farther it is moved toward HOT,the greater the degree of warmth. Thelower lever selects fresh outside air inthe VENT position, shuts off outsideair and recirculates air inside the carthrough the heater in the RECIRCposition, and directs outside airthrough the heater core in the FRESHposition. The fan switch offers aselection of three blower speeds andturns the blower off.

Car ]ackAll Colt models are provided with ascissors-type jack. The jack is stored inthe spare tire well in all models exceptstation wagons, and under the rear-seat cushion in station wagons.

To use the jack, make sure the liftplatform is squarely under the car'sside sill near the flat tire. Then insertthe handle in the jack and turn. Loosenthe wheel lug nuts before lifting theflat tire completely off the ground.

Roomy TrunkColt's trunk is roomy and uncluttered.And with the spare tire concealed in awell beneath the trunk floor, all trunk

space is usable for luggage. A trunkfloor mat is standard.

ConstructionDodge Colt employs a unitized body-and-frame construction. This meansthat the entire structure is welded intoa single, reinforced unit so that all theelements contribute to the overallstrength of the body. Body sheet metalis reinforced with a web of strong,box-section steel girders and other

steel braces-all welded together intoa single sturdy unit.

Body SafetyAII Colt doors have steel side impactbeams and the roof has beenstrengthened to meet Federal safetystandards.

Lap-and-ShoulderSafety Seat BeltsEach Colt's front bucket seat isequipped with a combined lap-shoulderbelt that fastens with a single buckle.The shoulder belts are on inertia reels.This allows the driver and frontpassenger to bend forward freely toadjust instrument-panel controls orreach the glove box. However, shouldthe car decelerate suddenly, a specialdevice locks the shoulder-belt reelsinstantly, restraining the driver andfront-seat passenger. Lap belts arealso provided for two rear-seatpassenSers.

Inside Door LocksDoors on hardtop and coupe modelshave a lock lever recessed in the doorpanel. Sedan and station wagons havepush-pull buttons. To lock either frontdoor from outside without the key,move the lever or push-button to lockposition, then hold the outside doorhandle in the raised position whileclosing the door.

SuspensionColt uses independent front suspensionwith coil springs to cushion the ride.Shock absorbers are mounted in thecenter of the coil springs. Caster andcamber are fixed and do not have to beadjusted- so front-end alignmentservice is reduced to just toe-inadjustments. A front anti-sway bar isstandard. The rear suspension employs

semi-elliptic leaf springs with twoleaves in each spring (five on thewagon). The rear springs have long,flexible rear sections to cushion theride and short, relatively stiff frontsections to control axle windup. Bothfront and rear shock absorbers aredouble-acting type.

Front Disc BrakesColt's front disc brakes provideexcellent braking with high resistanceto brake fade. Disc brakes in frontand drum brakes in the rear arestandard on all Colt models. An extra-cost power booster is a requiredoption with the 2000 cc engine, but isnot available with the 1600 cc engine.

Energy-AbsorbingHydraulic BumpersAll Colt models have hydraulic shock-absorber-mounted front and rearbumpers. The shock absorberscompress on impact and permit thebumper to move back. Return springsmove the bumper to its originalposition when the impact force isremoved. These bumpers are designedto meet Federal standards for low-speed impacts. Horizontal rubberbumper guards are standard on allmodels.

Carousel AM-FM RadioThis fully transistorized AM-FM radio,standard on Colt Carousel and notavailable on other Colt models, givespassengers the opportunity to listen toFM programming with static-free

from shifting cargo. A seat-back latchmust first be released before the seat-back can be folded forward. Ascissors jack is mounted under therear seat cushion.

Liftgate Rear Dooron Station WagonsColt station wagons have a liftgatewhich lifts up and out of the way foreasy loading and unloading of thecargo compartment. Press apush-button to unlatch the liftgate.The rear window is fixed in theliftgate.

Station Wagon Spare TireColt puts the station wagon spare tireunderneath the rear cargo compart-ment, where it doesn't take up valuablespace and is easily accessible withoutunloading cargo. When the spare tireis needed, simply use the lug wrenchto loosen the rack bolt located in thesill for the liftgate, This lets the sparedrop down where it is easy to pickup and install.

The standard Colt engine is a veryefficient hemi-head, overhead-camengine that will cruise all day atturnpike speeds while deliveringexcellent gasoline mileage. It isstandard on all Colt models, exceptGT. This engine is rugged and durableand requires a minimum of service.

Colt Engine FeaturesColt's 1600 cc engine and the 2000 ccengine both have a 2-barrel carburetor,single exhaust, five-bearing crankshaft,aluminum rylinder head, hemi-spherical combustion chambers,overhead cam and automatic choke.

Emission ControlsColt engines are equipped with an airpump that induces extra burning inthe exhaust manifold. This burnsharmful exhaust gas emissions soeffectively that these engines can useregular gas-leaded, low-lead orno-lead-and still meet Federalemission-control standards. 4-Speed Manual TransmissionColt's 4-speed manual transmissionwith floor-mounted shift lever issynchronized in all forward gears.Gear ratios are: first, 3.53 to L, second,2.19 to 1, third, L.44 to 1, and fourth,1 to 1. Reverse gear ratio is 3.87 to 1.The shift pattern is shown on top ofthe shift-lever knob. The 4-speedmanual transmission is standard onall Colt models except Colt GT-is not available on GT.

S-Speed Manual TiansmissionColt's S-speed manual transmissionhas a fifth gear with a ratio equivalentto overdrive. This overdrive gear canincrease gasoline mileage considerablyduring sustained highway driving. Thefifth gear, overdrive, is designed forhighway speeds. It feduces enginespeed for any given highway speed,resulting in less engine wear, lessengine noise and better highway fueleconomy. The first four gears are forcity driving. The S-speed transmission
