Comcast Xfinity began as a cable provider in 1963. Up until 1990, cable was the only service provided by Comcast. In the 1990’s, Comcast began to provide internet connection and even started their own cellular division. In 2010, Comcast began promoting Xfinity which was a re-branded trademark for triple play services which included: cable, internet, and telephone. The pushing of the Xfinity brand was highly criticized. Many believed that it was an attempt by Comcast to get away from the negativity that was associated with the Comcast brand.

About 7 years ago, the Comcast Xfinity brand came out with their own home security and home automation system. Known as Comcast Xfinity Home, the system made its grand entrance into the industry and turned a few heads in the process.

Due to the name recognition of Comcast Xfinity (based off of their cable, internet, and phone services) was able to introduce their home security product in stride. Customers who already had Comcast Xfinity bundles were able to add the home security service to their existing services.

Comcast Xfinity Home does offer two different forms of installation: self installation (DIY) and professional installation. Professional installation does all of the heavy-lifting for you, but it is going to cost you. A trained technician comes into your home and installs all of the equipment and walks you through how the system operates. The technician will also provide consumers with a personal assessment to help create a more customer security system. The professional install option is available for all Xfinity Home packages. Installation costs will be determined based on the package chosen and location of home.

Comcast Xfinity Home does offer a self-installation option (DIY) for those who would rather save on costs and customize their home security system the way they want. The self-install kit will be sent directly to the customer’s home. Included in the set is step-by-step instructions that will assist customers in their installation attempt. If for some reason a customer is struggling with installation or is unable to make the system work, expert technicians are available to help and provide support over the phone.

The BestHomeSecurityCompanys.com experts reviewed the Comcast Xifinty home security system and service. While Comcast Xfinity is a well-recognized company, the BHSC experts are not confident in their home security product. The BHSC experts found that the costs are well above the average fees other home security companies charge. Their home security department is also relatively new compared to home security companies who specialize in the industry and have been in business for decades.

The BHSC experts found that consumers looking into the Comcast Xfinity service should keep in mind these main points: •  Bundled packages: It is easy to bundle your cable, Internet, and home

security service, but it does limit future opportunities to shop around for other providers.

•  Fees: Monitoring costs and installation fees are more expensive than the average home security provider.

Comcast Xfinity offers three different home security packages that come with standard equipment. Comcast Xfinity is a recognized brand and they have a warranty, but the positives end there. There are drawbacks for people who bundle with cable and Internet. The problem is it limits consumers opportunities to look around for other providers. Equipment costs, installation fees, and monitoring payments will all add up. Consumer reviews reveal that the costs do not necessarily reflect the services provided.

Comcast Xfinity may provide quality cable and Internet services, but there are better options out there for home security.
