Abiding in Christ (v56)
settling down, maintaining a permanent residence; never leaving, a continuing presence
• a proposal of PROVISION, STABILITY, SECURITY, RESCUE, REST
• a proposal of committed RELATIONSHIP
Commitments
• If you come, you will never HUNGER OR THIRST again (v35)– Your quest for daily sustenance is over
– Begging, stealing, selling yourself isn’t necessary
– Your soul will be nourished, and growing
– Jesus is Your ultimate satisfaction
you’ll never need to leave
Commitments
• If you come, you will never BE REJECTED again (v37)
– You are a part of the family
– You are held in honor, not contempt
– God will never reject you
– You will never be expelled to hell
you’ll never be made to leave
Commitments
• If you come, you will never BE LOST or ALONE again (v39)
– Jesus wants to keep you with Him
– Each one is important, as a gift from the Father
– Jesus will pick you up and hold you close
you’ll never be left behind
Commitments
• If you come, you will LIVE WITH ME forever (vv47, 50, 51, 57, 58)
– Eternal life is both quantitative and qualitative
– You can have a freedom from fear of death
– Your life and Jesus’ life are intertwined
you’ll simply never leave
Invitation
• I am the bread of LIFE. (vv35, 41, 48, 50, 58)
• I will give my LIFE for you. (v51)
• COME and live with me (forever). (v56)
EAT! DRINK! STAY! ENJOY!
Conclusion
• Abiding is a commitment to
–Unpack your BAGGAGE
–Curb your ‘WANDERLUST’, cure HOMESICKNESS
–Move beyond “LIGHT CONVERSATION” with Jesus
– Spend lots of ALONE TIME with Jesus
