COME TO THE CABARET!
Katie Headrick as Sally Bowles
Brendan Hay as Emcee with Sam Larielle, Tyler Hoggard, Ebony Black, Kerstyn Walsh and Claire
Janes as Bobby, Victor, Texas, Rosie and Frenchie
Joel Duffy as Cliff Bradshaw
LEAVE YOUR TROUBLES OUTSIDE! Dubber, Ross Howie, Bridget Keating, Bec
Bec Gordon, Chae Rogan and Sam Larielle
spent a full day until 2am working on our
Kit Kat Club veneer. She looks pretty - in a
filthy kind of way. The team out-nerded
themselves with colour samples and
techniques (Chae in particular...)
FOH volunteers are still required for the
show. Anyone who gives up their time to
help out for three shows will be given a
refund of their ticket as a thank you. :)
This week we are off to purchase all our
new equipment that will benefit our Work
Experience Students from Sutherland
BEN. These items include a comms set,
data projector, hazer and fogger. Woo-
hoo! ALL before bump in this weekend!!
See you at the show!
The Production Team, Cast, Crew and
Committee are pushing hard now in
the lead up to our highly anticipated
SMT production of Kander and Ebb‟s
CABARET. And why wouldn‟t we with
the terrific line up we have for our
audiences? After witnessing rehearsals
of numbers like “Don‟t Tell Mama”,
“Money”, “Mein Herr”, “Two Ladies”, “It
Couldn‟t Please Me More”, “Tomorrow
Belongs to Me”, “Kick Line”, and
“Cabaret” it‟s hard for us not to get
excited!
We are now in our final two weeks of
preparation and the pressure is on! We
cannot wait for you to meet our Emcee,
Sally, Cliff, Schneider, Schultz, Ernst, Kost
and Kit Kat Club Girls and Boys. Lolly,
Bec and Simone are continuing to
shape the show and we wish the entire
group all the very best for the exciting
time ahead.
TVS‟ “The Theatre Show” will be coming
in to interview the cast and production
team and will start screening our
“Spotlight on..” section multiple times
from our opening day. Please support
this cool little program. Check out their
website of the same name.

If you were given the opportunity to create your own 20 minute Cabaret what would your
opening song and closing song be??
Please complete the following and post to Newsletter Issue 5, PO Box 382, GYMEA, NSW 2227 for your chance to win!
They ad libbed a bit until one got a bit impatient and announced "I think I hear some horses with people coming to interrupt us." The audience
approved.
The audience in Return to The Forbidden Planet seemed more concerned with crazy action of any kind than the actual crazy sequence. Those on stage noticed when the Captain omitted the sequence of preparations for take-off and started the lift-off. I think the effect was just a shorter performance. That was not incorporated either thereafter either.
Don Lang
There is a street scene in half of sixpence with lots of people out front murmuring inaudible sweet nothings , as you do. Many will share my experience when someone with a different track on stage arrived by my ear and murmured." Your shoelace is
untied. Do not trip over it."
In the performance of the Mikado the Gentlemen of Japan informed the world of their state, in strict tempo among other things. A message arrived in the dressing room. "Somebody tell John he is not wearing his choir shoes. He can be seen
keeping time with his big toe. "
Audience members can occasionally join in. In the Sunday matinee of "The King and I" a number of people from a nursing home were given a concession that brought them right next to the orchestra. The role of the King demands bit of autocracy, and we were hearing it in full measure. One of the little old ladies just opposite him remembered that gentlemen did not speak to ladies, like that. She also recognised him as being of the younger generation. She started correcting him. From memory he speeded up his autocracy until it turned into the next musical number Audience members do join in on
occasion with less excuse.
Jim was in a villainous role in The Gypsy Baron and came on stage to outline some of his nefarious plans. He finished, and the audience was properly aghast. So was he, as it turned out. There was a good guy ready to burst onto the scene and explain that he was taking steps to thwart evil Jim. Jim was of course not looking to see his nemesis behind him. He finished his line, as he should not have been able to do. He waited. He glanced. He looked in horror. He announced portentously that he must make further investigation. He left and an audience voice bade him to learn his lines as part of his investigation. Down in the dressing room a certain elderly role player had got engrossed in a book. Action and tempo picked up rather hesitantly. The variation was not
incorporated in later performances.
There is a moral, but not one you expect when it turns out to be necessary. It worked out well for two young ruffians, I think in the same show. They finished a bit of business at the front of the stage, and nothing that was supposed to happen did.
Editor‟s Note - Don Lang is our Public Officer here
at SMT. He is an advisor and mentor in many
ways and is always a source of information and
humour. I look forward to hearing more about
the Sutherland Shire Light Opera Company/Shire
Music Theatre history in this column. xx

Congratulations to our winner of 2 x CABARET tickets up for grabs
over the past two issues; Jessica Knight! Thanks for entering!
On Easter Saturday, our Box Road
Rehearsal Space got some hard-core
loving from some well meaning and
equally hard-core volunteers. The
space was given a great clean about a
year ago but since then she really
needed another spruce up.
Andrea Munn, props and stage manager
extraordinare, took one look at our props
room and walked out… Kidding, she
grabbed Kira Nelson and itemised, stylised
and catagorised the entire room and even
posed for a photo! I know!
Mama Don (aka Donna Wainohu) took
charge of the Costume Rooms over a
period of two days with the help of Kira
Nelson, Ebony Black and Bec Bec June
Gordon, Bridget Keating and Phil McIntosh.
Sally Redman—as you will read later, made
the kitchen her special little place this year.
Sally‟s room makeovers are always a treat,
complete with the literal complimentary
signage and glitter. Up until last year, those
who visited the „facility‟ downstairs in the
dungeon were greeted with “If you do a
little tinkle, and leave a little sprinkle, please
want them back because they always seem
to save the day when we are painting, clean-
ing or building which is A LOT!
We finished with mopping the floor of the
entire hall which made the place look even
more awesome—if only until it dried.
Unfortunately our reward trip to Audley had
to be cancelled due to the weather. Boo!
Sincere thanks to; Andrea, Donna, Kira, Bec,
Sally, Ebony, Phil, Howie, Dan and Bridget
and then Ross for the tip trip.
The hall
looks great
because of
your
contribution.
Thank you!!

be a sweetie and wipe around the seatie”.
None of us realized how lovely and cute it
was until Phil took down the lovingly
created sign and replaced it with his own…
Details of which cannot be printed here…
But thank you for the straight-forward
sign! :)
The day was long but spirits were
surprisingly high as we tore the place apart
room by room. We came across some
“Party Mix” CD‟s which I am sure belong to
Charisse Graber. I really hope she doesn‟t
Shiny Hall with shiny faces of left to right, Phil, Sally, Ebony, Bec Bec, Howie and Kira. Right is Andrea & props room
eating dinosaur thing… It was a pretty awe-
some day so...
This year the Good Friday group was a little
bigger and more focused on carnie food,
carnie rides and scaring themselves as much
as humanly possible… Jaz, Howie, Sally,
Bridget, Chae, Sam and Bec Bec, and in there
we met our favourite Banana in Pajamas, Joel
Duffy, (Also Cliff Bradshaw in CABARET) and
Jacinta and Janelle O‟Connell and later,
Taylor Thomson and Katie Farina.
Uncle Phil dropped us off in TWO car loads,
bless his cotton socks and off we went!
While many things were seen and a full day
of fun was had.. Only tiny moments can be
recalled; the tears in Jaz‟ frightened eyes as
he went up in the kiddies chair swing; the
1min 15sec ride on the Crazy Coaster after
the 50 min queue; watching Bec Bec‟s face
light up at animal nursery farm cattle dog
pups; Sam‟s introduction to the excitement
and wonder of the fruit display Taylor, Katie,
Chae, Jaz Bridget, Howie and Sam screaming
(sometimes with obscenities) their way
through “Hollywood Horrors” hotly pursued
by a real man with a chainsaw; and Sally‟s
incredible Tiger Hat. It was exhausting but
awesome! You should come next year!
Xxx SMT Team
Last year Lolly, Leffler, Sally, Bridget and Jaz—
stormed the Royal Easter Show complete with
ridiculous chicken hats and a need to be in-
volved in EVERYTHING. Particularly the Kung Fu
Panda kids show… Sorry kids but we were better
dancers… We saw pretty much every animal at
the show including the Pied Piper Ducks and
stayed around for the tragedy that was the car

attention. You know you‟ve done a great job
when people walk past and go…
“Wow!!!‟ (That was Jenny Barker by the by,
our Fraulein Schneider in CABARET!)
As expected of our dear Sally you will also
notice some words of encouragement here
and there regarding the cleaning and use of
organic
sugar…
Thanks for
the hard
work and
“Maria”,
Sally
Redman!
How on earth could the biggest news to hit
our Box Road Rehearsal Space be relegated
to this page?? Well… It all started with a gen-
erous loan to the space. Yes. I‟m talking about
Sally‟s Microwave.
I hear you all cheering from here…! Now, you
can bring your pre-cooked meals to the space
while you are rehearsing! I know. You are
about to head down there now just to give
“Maria” a burl… Don‟t rush, we don‟t want
another Crazy Coaster queue on our hands.
While you are in the kitchen you will see that
Sally has also given the place a complete
overhaul. It really needed some love and
