Where We Came From

At NewTek, we believe that at some point in the near future – if not already – your favorite shows will be produced by someone you know. Maybe even you. That belief stems from where NewTek started – in the minds of our founder, Tim Jenison, and a group of other unfulfilled, wannabe filmmakers.

In the mid-1980s, Tim and his group of wannabes didn’t “wannabe” slaves to the studio, which was almost a requirement for making movies at the time. They broke the chains by inventing their own easy-to-use, inexpensive production tools. As it turned out, those tools were exactly what wannabes all over the globe were looking for, and tens of thousands of people used NewTek’s original production system, the Video Toaster®.

Today, the Video Toaster is a cherished piece of our company history, but our focus hasn’t changed. NewTek is still committed to changing the video production game by giving the power to anyone who has a story to tell.
