During this period in France, Molire was also writing comedy ofmanners plays. Two of his most famous works include LeMisanthrope (1666) and The School for Wives (1662), where hesatirized aspects of 17th Century French society.

A hundred years later (in the late 18th century), Irish playwrightRichard Sheridan and Englishman Oliver Goldsmith revived the

Comedy of Manners genre. The best examples of their work includeSheridans The School for Scandal(1777) and Goldsmiths SheStoops to Conquer(1773).

Again, a little over a century from this period, Comedy of Mannerplays were being perfected in England by the (in)famous Irishplaywright Oscar Wilde with wonderful works like The Importance ofBeing Earnest(1895) and Lady Windermeres Fan (1892).
