Farewell Mr Pipkin Our caretaker of 18 years was fare welled from Campbells Bay School on Friday and what an 18 years they were!

Geoff brought great warmth and humour to the very important role of caretaker making many, many friends along the way. Geoff’s farewell provided an opportunity to reflect on his many contributions to the school and the impact he had on so many people. The role of a caretaker at a large school is not for the faint of heart. It requires an ability to stick to a routine while also being adaptable enough to break that routine when necessary. It also requires significant stamina and a sense of humour is a distinct advantage! It was wonderful to farewell Geoff with his family in attendance and with the school in full voice.

Thank you to Vicki Caisley, chairperson Board of Trustees, for her speech, to Joe Lanning and her speech and you really had to be there to appreciate the contribution of former parent and librarian (and now grandmother) of the school, Sharon Purchase for her speech.

Geoff is retiring but we do expect to see him back at school from time to time helping out. Thanks for your work and for the memories, Geoff

Parking!

We have received several complaints from residents of Aberdeen Road regarding illegal parking making it impossible for residents to enter or exit their drive ways.

Please respect the rules regarding parking and also the very reasonable rights of people to access their driveways when they need to. Parking illegally not only unreasonably inconveniences residents but it also reflects badly on the school. Please only park where it is legal to do so.

Library Cards

Please remind your children to keep their library cards in their bookbags if they are returning to CBS next year. These are for use for the whole time they are at Campbells Bay School.

Thanks Library Team

School Uniform School uniforms can be obtained from NZ Uniforms, Unit F, 19 Orbit Drive, Albany. See their website for opening times. Note, from 9 January they are open from 9.00 am - 5.00 pm Monday Friday and from 9.00 am - 1.00 pm on Saturday moving to 9.00 - 4.00 pm on Saturdays from 16 January.

Footwear NZ Uniforms do not sell footwear. School regulation footwear is either black or navy blue sandals or shoes. (No other colours permitted.)

From that start of the 2017 school year there will be regular school uniform and footwear inspections in the context it is an expectation the school uniform will be adhered to. Should there be a medical reason so either black or blue footwear cannot be worn it is expected a note from an appropriate medical professional will be provided to the school.

It would be fair to say that adherence to the footwear policy re colour has slipped in recent times. As outlined this will be addressed in February 2017.

We ask for your cooperation re the adherence to the school’s uniform policy. Thanks.

Please note: non black or navy footwear can be worn when playing sport.

Schumacher Shines Thanks to author and parent of Campbells Bay School, Shiree Schumacher (the ‘other’ Schumacher) students at Manurewa East School have loads of her recent picture book to share with other these holidays.

Shiree visited the school last Monday, reading to students and answering their many questions.

Thanks, Shiree, for living our school motto of ‘Not self but service.’

Carnival 2017 So many people commented so favourably about the family event on Wednesday following the concerts, we have decided to have a School Carnival on Friday 10 March 2017 starting at 4.00pm and ending at 7.30pm or thereabouts.

The twin aims for the carnival are for us to raise money for the anticipated refurbishment and extension of our school hall and for everybody in our school community to have fun; not bad aims!

This notice is simply to notify you to put the date of the carnival in your diary right now! In early February we will be outlining the format of the event and how you can be involved.

In the meantime, you could start putting some good quality items aside, that you no longer need, that somebody might be willing to pay for!

Look out for new of the carnival in the first school newsletter of 2017!
