COMMANDER CHARLES T. NOTHOM UNITED STATES NAVY Commander N othom enlisted in the Navy in 1963 as a Hospital Corp- sman. His first assignment was at the U.S. Naval Hospital, San Diego, California from 1963 to 1965 and then with a rifle platoon of Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Third Marine Division in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966. He separated from active duty in 1966 and later attended college at the University of Kansas where he received a BA degree in Russian History and in Political Science and a MA degree in Slavic and Soviet Studies. He was commissioned an Ensign, (Special Duty, Intelligence) in December 1974 at Aviation Officer Candidate School, NAS Pensacola, FL Following training at the Armed Forces Air Intelligence Training Center at Lowry AFB, Denver, Co, and Naval Intelligence Processing System Training Facility at NAS Key West, Fl, Commander Nothom was assigned to USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV-67) as Electronic Evaluation Officer from January 1976 to November 1978. Changing his designator to Special Duty, Cryptology in 1978, he was assigned to U.S. Naval Security Group Activity, Edzell, Scotland until March 1982. He then served on Commander, SIXTH FLEET Staff from May 1982 to June 1984. His next assignment was to the OPNAV Staff, first to Director, Electronic Warfare (OP-944) and later to Director, Naval Com- munications (OP-941) until July 1987. His most recent assignment was as Executive Officer, U.S. Naval Security Group Activity, Sabana Seca, Puerto Rico. Commander Nothom' s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal and various unit, service and campaign awards. Commander Charles T.
