An Interactive Strategic Prayer Guide by Intercessors for America
PRAYER FOCUS
Join us in praying for each
branch of the United States
military, as well as military
families. Our first focus is our
Commander-in-Chief.
Read Psalm 91 in its entirety.
General James Hutchens, a 32-year veteran of the Army, shares in his book Beyond Combat that he can personally testify that “prayer works for the military.” He goes on to share three reasons why prayer works and is critical, by way of his own military experience over the years. Reason #1 is soldiers get saved. Reason #2 is soldiers get healed. Reason #3 is the blessing of the promises of Psalm 91, which is a psalm of protection. Read more of General Hutchens’s article here. Intercession is critical to
support our military.
Pray for the Commander-in-Chief of our military, President Donald J. Trump. Pray for insight, wisdom, strength, and strategy. Pray that he would depend on God and look to Him for answers. Pray that President Trump will look to the Word of God for guidance and leading. Pray he will stand behind chaplains, and advocate the freedom
for our military members to honor God.
Use this Strategic Prayer Guide to give purpose to your prayer time for those selflessly serving our nation in the military. The guiding Scripture for this prayer effort is Psalm 91.
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day. (Ps 91:4-5)
Use the prayer journal in each section of this guide to jot down any insights and words from the Lord during your prayer time. Ask God to bring to your heart points of prayer for our military, who voluntarily serve and protect our nation.

Military Spouses
Military spouses also
sacrifice in service to
our country. Spouses
commit to a special and
often demanding
lifestyle. Many endure
long separations,
difficult and regular
moves, as well as
challenging family
dynamics. Pray for the
spouses running a
household alone, and
for the covering of God
for safety, healthy
marriages, and
blessing.
Chief of Staff of the Army General Mark A. Milley
For over 35 years, General Mark A. Milley, his wife, and two children have dedicated their lives to our nation’s service through the Army. Pray for blessing on this family and for godly leadership
and decisionmaking. Pray for guidance and strategy. Pray he would seek God’s heart and have a personal relationship with Him.

A graduate of West Point, General Hurley served as a soldier before becoming an ordained Roman Catholic priest. He obtained his ordination and served as a priest for several years before

Military Children
Military children have
the blessing and
challenge of living the
military lifestyle while
growing up. While there
is a sense of pride and
a feeling of community
among those on base,
there are also
challenges for kids with
military parents.
Frequent moves,
deployments with long
separation and anxiety
about losing a parent in
service are just a few.
Pray that these kids
would come to know
Christ and put their
dependence on Him to
meet their needs. Pray
for adaptability,
trust, sense of
belonging and value.
Pray for protection and
safety, blessing, and
dependence on God.

Deployed Families
The hallmark of the
challenge of military
family life is
deployment. While it is
an anxious and
challenging time, it can
also be a time of
trusting in God for those
who know Him. Each
family has unique chal-
lenges with
deployment. Care of
children, household
responsibilities, holidays
apart, and other chal-
lenges face families with
a service member de-
ployed. Pray for God to
meet the needs of the
family left behind, as
well as the one
deployed. Pray for
closeness while they
are apart, for covering,
for protection. Pray they
would know their sacri-
fices are appreciated.

and daughter.
Moving is a part of
many families’ lives.
For a military family, it is
a regular event, often
moving as many as 6-7
times in the course of a
military child’s life.
Relocating with the
military can mean
international moves,
bringing even more
challenges. Pray for
military families who are
relocating. Pray for their
protection and safety,
for transition and
acclimation, and for
logistical details. Pray
that kids easily adjust,
spouses find friends,
and for supportive

Military Families
in Crisis
All families are subject

frequent moves and
deployments, additional

crisis situation. Pray for
those military families

marriages, child issues,
or health problems.
Pray for God to meet
them where they are
and bring His healing
power to those families.
Pray for believers who
can walk alongside
families offering prayer,
comfort, counsel, and
help. Pray for
wholeness for military
families.

Coast Guardsmen serving by watching over America.
There are only 80,000 active Coast Guardsmen in service today—a small, but vital, branch. They are the only
branch of the military under Homeland Security. Pray for those rescuing
people in danger, patrolling the coast for our safety, protecting our fisheries and water borders, and providing drug interdiction. Pray they would know God personally and rely on God to meet their needs, and for wisdom, strength and power to do their jobs.

Our disabled veterans With nearly 4 million disabled veterans in our nation, please pray for excellent care, job reentry if possible, for emotional adjustment, for family dynamics, and for peace. Pray for peace as they
navigate living with a disability. May they know God’s hand is on them and know Him personally. Pray for the Church to minister to our wounded warriors.

discernment on how to
best help their veteran,

dynamics of having a

the daily picture again.
Pray for kids, spouses,
and parents of
veterans, that their
bonds would tighten.
Pray each member of
the family would know
Christ and His peace.
