COMMANDER’S COMMENTS “A foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; a wise man grows it under his feet” ~ James Oppenheim Hello Post 374 members: Welcome to August! This year has flown by, as has this summer. I have been traveling a lot this sum- mer as I explained in my last newsletter article. This past month I have visited Legion Posts in California, Washington State, and Oregon. This past month, our own Post was also visited by a member of another post. He and I had different experiences in our visits - Why? One of us expected others to make us feel happy, welcome and invited. The other brought the happy, welcoming and inviting attitude with them. When I visit another Post, I find it most helpful when I bring a friendly atmosphere with me. You never know what people are going through, so bringing a little cheer to their lives with a smile and a handshake can mean the world. So, the next time you come to our Legion, introduce yourself to those you don’t know, shake a hand, and share a smile. Don’t wait for others to come to you; grow happiness under your feet! Until next month, Commander Doris Veterans Crisis Hotline: 1-800-273-8255 SAL NEWS Hello everyone! I hope you all had a good 4th of July! Color Guard is in full swing with parades and baseball games. Don’t forget about the Millard Days Parade – come out and cheer us on. The parade is on Saturday August 25 at 11:00 AM. It’s hot out there – stop in the Post and have a cold drink! Hello Post 374 members: Welcome to August! This year has flown by, as has this summer. I have been traveling a lot this sum-mer as I explained in my last newsletter article.

We have a balloon ride raffle; see the bartenders for tickets. There will be other raffles and food at the Post after the poker run. Card Of ThanksDear members of the American Legion Post #374, H I would like to thank you for sponsoring my week at Cornhusker Boy’s State. Boy’s State was truly a life-changing and unforgettable experience. I was in the town of Belleau Wood and it was amazing to see how a group of boys from across the state who didn’t know each other become great friends. Through Boy’s state I now have a greater appreciation for the American democracy and the importance of up-holding our principles and freedoms. Thank you again for allowing me to participate in the great program that is Cornhusker Boy’s State. Sincerely, John Bollish

H Thank you for the beautiful Honor Guard ceremony on June 22 at the National Cemetery for my step-son Shaun L. Ketelson. F. Jerry Vinci

H I am writing to extend my heartfelt appreciation for the beautiful committal service that you provided for my husband, Byron ‘Jack’ Wol-len at the Omaha National Cemetery on June 22, 2018. From begin-ning to end it was so well done and honored my husband and all the sacrifices he made for his country. I especially want to thank Chaplain Dennis Guinane who went far beyond his duties in preparing the eu-logy that he gave at the funeral. The detailed information regarding the time Jack served in WWII was information that most of the family was not aware of. I had a couple of requests that Dennis was able to honor: He got a person to play taps versus the standard recording used nowa-days. (The young gentleman did a fine job) Dennis also had current service personnel do the flag honors. The two young ladies could not have been more perfect in the duties. My Navy hero would have been so proud. Thank you again. Sincerely, Lennie Wollen & family
